Re: 42 Years ago today!
I wasn't there Twiggs but watched it on TV and cried my eyes out when we lost . I remember Billy walking down the tunnel at the end looking absolutely devastated at the sheer injustice of it all . And the following day it got even worse when I was confronted by baying Chelsea fans in the school playground . I can still feel the humiliation to this day , and I've hated those fcukers ever since .

I remember it well, I cried buckets that night and developed a hatred for David Webb, Alan Hudson, Ian Hutchison and Uncle Tom Cobbleigh almost as bad as the one I had for George Best and Brian Kidd !

Re: 42 Years ago today!
I was at Wembley as well to watch the main final. The pitch was a plowed field after the gymkhana a few days before, which led to a game of pub football, as proper footy wasn't possible. As in the replay, we dominated that game and Eddie was kicked off the turf by Webb.
Many fools blame Sprake for that "soft" goal he let in. Have a look back on you tube. The strike hit a divot that deflected the ball away from where he was already diving to. He had no chance with the other goal.
Postman Harvey replaced him at old twatford and was utter rubbish with both goals he conceded. He flapped thru the whole game. If the Don ever made a mistake, it was playing Harvey that night and not giving Sprake an immediate chance to shine in the replay.
It was probably the worst ever trip home after a Leeds game I've ever experienced. At least after Paris, we knew we'd been cheated. After that cup final replay this night, we knew our heroes had failed. Was no cheating or fixing. Just failure.
On reflection, chelsea did what they came to do. Antagonise and distract us. Billy and Jack and Big Norm spent more time chasing players to retaliate, than they did concentrating on the game. And Harvey's woeful keeping. No lousy pitch to blame at old twatford. Just his positional errors.
On a positive note, Mick Jones' goal was probably the best ever seen in a cup final, up to then. Still beautiful to watch again!

I thought it was that moron Harris that kicked Gray out of the replay ? Think Sprake was injured when John Hughes clattered him against Celtic and was carried off ( Harvey came on as sub ) . Loved Mick Jones goal in the replay but thought the Wembley effort was just brilliant as it showed Bremner , Giles and Clarke at their best in the build up .

I was on Gan, an island in the Maldives, with the RAF. I sat through both matches in 110 degrees, with my bobble hat and scarf on, sweating buckets, and supping Tiger Beer (the real stuff - brewed in Singapore). Broken hearted, then shortly after had to return home to the UK, to be greeted by my Chelsea supporting brother-in-law........... gggrrrrrrrrrrr!

Re: 42 Years ago today!
tackling is a dying art, on the damned united bonus section that cup final was re watched by a modern referee and he says had he been in charge the game would have finished with something like 20 yellow cards and 6 red.
football years ago was so much better with maybe 8 teams chasing the league title compared to nowadays theres only really 2 come april.....anyone who thinks different is an idiot and should find a new sport.
