Thanks mate, when it does get bad I console myself with the fact I don't sound like Antony Hegarty. He's had something a lot worse done down there.

O/T mate but have you heard the radio re-working of Sexton Blake with Simon Jones in the title roll, A Dirk Maggs production it 's brilliantly written and acted with magnificent use of the BBC sound effect team. I've a feeling it might be the kind of thing that tickles your fancy. So many quotable lines.....

there are 4 short you tube vids about the making of starting here

Not known for diplomacy...

Available on Amazon, the pedigree alone is worth a punt.

Are you familiar with the works of Malcolm Pryce?

Wife bought me 'Aberystwyth Mon Amour' on the back of me being on a Chander/Marlowe tip for a while there, great book. Surreal, askew, funny and well enough written to work as a straight-up detective story. Rest of the series is o my amazon wish list

Isn't Hernia a Harry Potter story character? :duno: She was definitely in "Up Pompeii", with the seriously missed Frankie Howerd. RIP

Carl Hiaasen is the king of the comically dark and surreal fiction for me with some truly bizarre characters, but the Malcolm Pryce stuff has piqued my interest. I shall certainly be trying him soon

Oh yes

If you're a Hiaasen fan, check out Colin Bateman, Norn Iron's answer to king Carl. You might need a little help with the vernacular, but he's up there with CH. And yes, check out MP, don't think you'll be disappointed
