Leeds visit

Hi guys and girls...

Will be visiting your fair shores in over the new year break and just needing some advice on how to go about things. Will be based in London but hoping to get up there for the New Years Day game against Bolton. Will be travelling with the wife who isn't super keen but happy to come to the game with me. Couple of questions...

1) What's the best way to go about getting tickets?
2) What's the best way to get up there and back to London again?
3) Any other advice?

I made the trip just over a year and half ago... went smooth. Here's how I handled each of your questions:

1) Bought them online right off the LUFC site. Everything went smooth though I had them hold the tickets and picked them up the day of the first match I was attending (picked up tickets for all 3 matches at once).

2) I just took the train directly from London up to Leeds. Quick, simple, and easy. I then chose to walk from the station to Elland Road but in the middle of winter a taxi may be best. They also have bus service from near the station/city center to the ground.

3) Have fun, sing your heart out, pay your respects to King Billy and now the Don as well, and again, have a blast!

How much would a day return ticket be between the two cities?

According to http://thetrainline.com an open return at a weekend (I assume public holidays are the same) is £94.10. With a specified return time it can be as little as £55.

Thanks doc, was coming up around the 50 quid mark, handy to know, next time we go over to my Sister in Law will definatly be taking a trip up for a game

If you book your train tickets 8 weeks in advance it will cost you £20 topps always book with the train operator toensure cheapest fare. East coast trains is the operator for that line. Also grand central run to bradford from London and their fares are very cheap then you buy another ticket from Bradford to leeds. Elland road is served by the 52 bus to Morley from Leeds city centre. also the Huddersfield bus goes the other side of the stadium which can be caught from the train station I think. Hope all that info helps.

Train tickets are a lot of money!
Once you get in Leeds it easy to get to elland road - Taxi would be the best bet in the winter unless you like walking on busy roads and getting crap sprayed all over you from the cars. dont let them charge you more than 7 quid for the taxi though! (my money saving tip!) and to not get caught in traffic try to get into leeds a couple of hours before kick off.
Watch out for feral chavs, and you're good to go.

Thanks for the info guys and welcome, although as you can see I've been around for a while. Just don't get enough info here or know enough to give an opinion, so keep it to myself. Had to find out the Kewell hate, as he was the one who got me supporting the club originally.

When looking at buying tickets, is there anywhere in particular i should try sit? Things to be aware of? If I don't wear a leeds shirt, do i get mobbed?

North Stand definitely best for atmosphere and if you are looking for the full on Elland Road experience it's the place to be. You'll still get the noise in the North East or North West corners but won't feel so much a part of it.

There's not really that much to know and no reason to be intimidated coming to Elland Road as a Leeds fan. We're a pretty friendly bunch to our own. Just ask anyone for directions or advice and you'll get it. If you post on here when you are coming usually someone will be up to meeting up and saying hello especially if you've come a long way.

Leeds shirt is far from obligatory (just don't wear on with Kewell on the back) although lots of fans do wear them for matches many don't. It could help identify you as "friend" but again we're a friendly bunch and even an opposition fan asking for help will get it (certain clubs excepted.)

South stand on its day can be quality.
Im pretty sure ticket prices are same prices though now. (north & south)

If you have strong bladders and well padded buttocks, the cheapest way is probably National Express Coaches, they would be about 10-12 quid each way per person, and take about 4 and a half hours (there may be a relief stop en route for leg stretching/toilets/food & drink. Book well in advance for cheapest tickets.

Personally, I would rather hang on until a scheduled stop, I can't think of much worse that being sat on a portapotty in a tiny cupboard over the rear axle of a moving coach! I would need another bog in front of me to handle the Chateau Chunder!
