Interesting how quickly people turn on Becchio again. Yes Varney had a good game if you conveniently ignore the chances he missed. How crucial would they have been if Southampton weren't so poor?

Becchio will score if people create the chances for him. Stop knocking him for not being what he isn't. Given the Varney sitter chance Becchio would have scored, we'd have been 1-0 up and likely to go on and win the game comfortably. Like it or not Becchio is now into double figures for the season, not exactly bad going and even discounting penalties he is still doing well.

If the team plays well then it is vital they take their chances when they come. Hopefully Varney will put last night's misses behind him and whether played instead of/ or with Becchio gets some goals. Becchio 1 touch - 1 goal. He's a goalscorer not a link up player.

Even you as a centre-half could mark Becchio out of a game

You can stick with Becchio all you like Weasel but we are going nowhere with this snail upfront....championship defenders have sussed him out....bench player only, takes a good penalty though

Varney has had one good game in a white shirt against a shocking Saints side which defends worse than lufc and with a bucket load of changes to boot - that game showed what we have been missing up front, movement. I'll be judging Varney after 20 games.

Becchio would not have scored the chance Varney missed. He would not have been in the position to score it. I'm not beating up on Becchio but he has been struggling. Take the pens away and his record is just ok.

We have played only 2 decent 90 minutes of football this season. Both in the cup when Colin threw caution to the wind. Moyes underestimated the task and Saints are hopeless. Let's see what the league brings.

Yes it is also up to the players to a cetain extent but they are told what formation and how to play, colin is also the one who should begetting them fired up for games, which obviously isn't happening if they look disinterested!!

Players, crowd, we're all struggling to get fired up since Mr Motivator arrived. Seems he's 'doing the do' in the cup cos his daughter told him to. Perhaps she should give the team talk. Tactically I imagine she's at least as clued up as papa!

So maybe we change it up in coming games. Instead of trying to use Diouf/Becchio as target men, maybe we run Ross and Varney.

I still think we should be running a 4231 with the players we have at the moment, but when Ross is back, I could see a 4132 working.

With the football we are playing, Becchio doesn't fit in so much. He is a great box goal scorer, but we need someone completely different at the moment. Becchio is a great option if he has someone quick playing off him, or he is receiving the ball in the box from out wide.

He does limit us somewhat, but he gets on the score sheet, which is why Warnock plays him. No one else he feels can do the job. Unfortunately he sent one of them out on loan.

So if we have Varney & Diouf up top...were does the returning Ross play ?

When did Becchio last score in open play? Colin himself has admitted we have problems up front in his post match 'Varney' motm speech. Doesn't accept it's owt to do with his tactics mindst. As for Ross, saviour, he wasn't scoring either was he.

Becchio would have scored the chance Varney missed. Contrary to what anyone has said that is exactly where Becchio would have been too.

It's also true that Becchio would not have made the run that Varney made that led to Tonge's opener.

I am a fan of Becchio's. He has been a great servant for the club and remains by far our top scorer. Tactics, style of play and desire made the difference against Southampton and Everton more than personnel.

However, if Varney has hit form and his game suits that style of play on current form I'd be dropping Becchio rather that Diouf.

9 games ago on the 24th September v Forest

Never rated Becchio & McCormack as a partnership....no height, no power/strength no pace & neither can hold the ball up

Becchio was poor last season....Luci was great in League One where he could get away with his poor first touch against average/rubbish defenders...championship CB's have more nous & know exactly how to play Becchio. If Warnock makes the decision to use Becchio & McCormack as his main strikers in the future our season is over...some will no doubt tell me different !

What do i know i'm a novice when it comes to this footy lark & i don't go to many games

If we play to Becchio's strengths (without becoming one-dimensional), he'll score goals. Agree he has no pace, and isn't going to play off the shoulder of the last defender a la Beckford, but he never was that type of player. Decent service from the flanks into the box and he'll bury his fair share of chances.

I personally think Warnock's tactics are culpable in making Luci look distinctly average currently. By his own admission, we lack pace in the side. Yet he persists with route one where, even if Becchio wins the header, none of our players are close to the play!!

As for Ross Mac, we'll agree to differ on that one Leon, I rate him and am looking forward to his return
