Leeds united club presidency
I'm a new user on mot forum and as my first post wanted to know what the club presidency means at leeds as ken bates will be our president at the end of the season.lord harwood and lady harwood didn't seem to have too much say in things at leeds so hoping bates won't be having a say on anything leeds

Personally I think he can't let go of being associated with football and at the ripe old age of 80 and how the last few years have been here, plus it's rumoured his health isn't the greatest , he hasn't got it in him to run another club and this is his way off keeping involved even if in name only. The optimist in me hopes he knows that the new owners have some clout behind them and the club are destined for great things and that's why he wants to remain linked to the club.

So as president he won't have any say in how the club is run

The word is that this deal is almost an exact carbon copy of the one he did when he sold Chelsea.
Likely he'll be thrown out on his arse the moment the new owners can get shot of him when they realise he's incompetent and what comes out of his arse is worth more than his advice.

After reading many of your posts mate, can I take it you're not a fan of hismarkolufc wrote:The word is that this deal is almost an exact carbon copy of the one he did when he sold Chelsea.

He's clearly got no idea how to run a football club or we'd be in a significantly better position. Of course I'm not a fan of his. He's far too stubborn and won't ever admit defeat even when he's doing a terrible job.gessa wrote:

I'll be happier tonight if we actually make a few signings.

The only worry is if he has done some of the things like he did at Chelsea which has led to them being unable to expand significantly etc.markolufc wrote:The word is that this deal is almost an exact carbon copy of the one he did when he sold Chelsea.

I think he felt a little betrayed by Chelsea after the takeover which is why he then refused to play ball. Hopefully the new board at Leeds will simply keep him sweet so no problems arise further down the line.
As far as his role goes then it is more likely just a soundbite role. Allows him to get his face on tv now and again and have a free seat whenever he wants to watch a game. Likely he would have just walked away but after all the protests etc this gives him a chance to keep sticking two fingers up at the fans who chanted against him.
But all in all job well done by Ken. Has given us financial stability, through fair means or foul, and made us a far better product for the new investors. Hopefully, like Abrahmovic, they can now take the club forward.

I'll never be convinced of this "financial stability" everyone harps on about. We're in quite a bit of debt thanks to that sodding east stand.

Why do people keep saying we are financial stability?weasel wrote:But all in all job well done by Ken. Has given us financial stability....
The accounts for last year show preference shares which indicate a sum of money had been put into the club, we have sold half of our future season ticket revenues and we have recently taken a £1.5 million from Enterprise Insurance plus the £2 million GFH initially put in which seemed to disappear quickly.

Perhaps it's all relative, Adam, and we are 'financially stable' because the level of debt we are carrying is small compared to other clubs of a similar size, or our liquidity is goodShields53 wrote:

Re: Leeds united club presidency
Someone worked out or debt, based on the information that was known at about 14 million. Given we are having to raise working capital by selling future season ticket sales and taking loans off our sponsors I would suggest our liquidity wasn't great.lufc1304 wrote:

No hard cash suggests problems. Moving money around to make us LOOK profitable isn't the same as actually being profitable.lufc1304 wrote:

Not having a pot to piss in is an indicator of financial instability.

I'm happy for him to be president, he's earned it and it's a position of little power and he has a wealth of experience...Something I'm not sure GFH has.

His experience is of how to run a football club badly. I want him gone. President should be reserved for those who have contributed significantly to the club or the city of Leeds. Bates has done the opposite. It's simply a case of appeasement to get him to do the deal. He won't last, thankfully.faaip wrote:

Re: Leeds united club presidency
you could well be right mate, as I'm no expert by any means. But given this is the murky world of Bates, do we REALLY know what we have in terms of assets and liabilities? As of yesterday, it is perhaps a moot point. Let's just hope there is a little more transparency from GFHShields53 wrote:

We can agree to disagree. It's no longer relevant to the interests of the club how long he lasts in this new post.
