Really? I watched the whole thing and didn't hear him see anything right wing or racist. He spoke common sense and said there should be a referendum on Europe and that Britain shouldn't be involved in foreign wars. There are real problems in the country and they can't be solved by shouting out knee jerk comments like "racist" at anybody you don't agree with.

You're happy then that this countrys' health service and benefit system can happily accommodate a few more million people from countries that are soon to joint the EU?.....because that would ease my mind greatly.

I am fine with it yes. This country is not in the state is is in now because of us accommodating foreigners. If anything our multi cultural country is the only positive thing at the moment and in a way brings us more money to the country, they work for less etc and often more efficiently. The financial mess we are in is mainly due to greedy white english bigwigs and poor decision making to the masses. Its so simple to blame immigration laws and believe only our selves should be eligible to health care, benefits etc, and i dont blame anyone for being angry about it. But politicians like this guy ^ are only using your anger towards the current state we are in to gain more power and respect.
Didn't mention the state of the country. I just made the point that as it is we're overloading the NHS and benefit system, That was the same point being made by the above politician..He may be racist and I'm never going to vote for them. Doesn't mean he can't be right o certain points

Reminds me of Warnock before he came to us and my opinion was "he can come across as likeable, but he is probably a prat".
I know Ireland isn't in great shape, but England/UK seems to be in a real mess - certainly in terms of the benefits system and what I know from my own interactions with the NHS.
Money is not finite - unless you want to end up with a seriously devalued currency - and the demands being placed on the two afore-mentioned systems means that something has to give.

Re: Nigel Farage says it as it is on question time.
I have to say that Nigel Farage spoke a lot of common sense in this clip, but in order to draw any conclusion I would also need to hear the full refutations of the other panelists. They may have alternative views that are equally valid but are not shown.
On a humanist level I have no issue whatsoever with helping others less fortunate than ourselves to improve their quality of life. It's not just our duty as a 'first world' country, it's the duty of any human being to assist their fellow man regardless of their origins. This view, however, must be tempered with a bit of brutal realism. It is simply not possible to help them all as much as the altruists would have us do. We can only take on so much extra population before our own infrastructure begins to crack, leaving us potentially in a position where we can no longer efficiently support ourselves and the people we have taken in. This leaves us in a position to help nobody.
I am reminded of a clip I saw on some charity thingy. A doctor in Africa was working in a charity hospital and had four very sick young children to care for. All needed ventilators to survive, but the hospital only had three. That man had to choose one of those four children to die so he could save the other three. A heartbreaking decision that I did not envy in the slightest. The point is that it's about more than ideals, it's about capacity and functionality. We can help so many, but we cannot help them all and somewhere we must draw the line. Difficult decisions need to be made and I can fully understand why each party in turn puts off making them, but procrastination will not help. Services are suffering already. The last thing we can deal with is services that actually break down due to overpopulation.

Re: Nigel Farage says it as it is on question time.
There was a very interesting article in the New Scientist a couple of years back looking at the demographic time-bomb; the problem of paying for pensions as the proportion of pensioners to working population increases.
Birth-rates are dropping all across Europe, even in the catholic countries where traditionally fear of or obedience to the church (take your pick) has discouraged women from using contraception.
The article made the point that to be able to afford pensions and the health-care that older people need disproportionately more then the young, countries need to bring in more workers to increase the working population and hence the tax take.
Only two countries in Europe were coming even remotely close to having enough immigration to get the working v retired numbers in balance, and they were the UK and (if I remember correctly) Sweden.
Please note: I am not making the case for unrestricted immigration, I am just saying that this is an intensely complex matter and there are more angles to it than immediately apparent.

That makes sense and it's not something I had considered, but the main problem is that the infrastructure is not growing in proportion to the population.Guildford White wrote:There was a very interesting article in the New Scientist a couple of years back looking at the demographic time-bomb; the problem of paying for pensions as the proportion of pensioners to working population increases.

Where are all these jobs ! I don't understand it the figures have us believe unemployment is falling yet businesses are struggling and the high street is shrinking daily, yet migration from Eastern Europe carries on unabated.Guildford White wrote:There was a very interesting article in the New Scientist a couple of years back looking at the demographic time-bomb; the problem of paying for pensions as the proportion of pensioners to working population increases.

See that's the thing , different facts about different situations, that's where we need to be careful just listening to one side of the story, no matter how well it's put. I really do think a lot of people in this Country will and do welcome immigrants here but unfortunately it's the spongers/ drains on the system one's that no one wants, which is how (imo) things need to be policed/controlled better. The unfortunate thing for a lot of immigrants to this country is, it's the spongers/ workshy that get the publicity, very little press for the ones who make a success of things and contribute greatly to the Country.
Footnote to Ems, and I'M not trying to be awkward. You're obviously a big fan of UKIP and in all honesty I know nothing about them but what other than their control on immigration can they offer the country to get our votes?

I think you'll find Gessa that the vast majority of spongers / drains (the Jeremy Kyle viewers) are in fact white native British.

Then to me the benefit system is too generous and easy to obtain, strange that some socialists won't face up to it, the choice is simple really isn't it.

Re: Nigel Farage says it as it is on question time.
For a common sense, truly alternative party UKip is the only answer.
Labour have beaten people over the head with the "race stick" for years now and quite frankly I've had it up to here with them. My child is mixed race and his mother also and I deplore Labour for using what should be a tool to combat evil used to systematically control people and scare your thoughts in to one way or no way.
Case comes to mind is when some immigrants were adopting kids (recently) and a Labour MP found "out" (what she found out i have no idea but she did). IMMIGRANTS were voting UKip!!! Labour MP called them racist and took the children from them. Can you really call that common sense? Can you really say that is freedom? A word used to incite fear and doubt when it is not needed. This is why I will never vote labour again.

As for your second swing - I have no problems with gay marriage or gay adoption.
