Changes since McDermott's arrival

Players running off the ball/movement

Byram & Warnock making space for Kenny to play the ball on the ground to them as oppose to aimlessly booting the ball upfield, even Lees & Pearce wanted the ball as our moves developed from the back on the floor

Defensively we look more organised....midfield still a worry when we are under the cosh, BM will no doubt have seen the problems & resolve in time

Better delivery of the ball into the box from set-pieces & from out wide

Positional changes bringing the best out of Green in central midfield & Austin playing on the right side of midfield. Varney pushed upfront as main striker with both McCormack & Diouf playing in the hole

At corners Green moving towards the corner taker drawing defenders out of the box allowing more space when we attack a corner

Half-time team-talk having an obvious effect as we have stepped up a gear in both 2nd halfs v Wednesday & Burnley. Apparently McDermott's team-talks are very calm & measured, no shouting or chucking pots around the dressing room !

Good piece, Leon, always useful to get perspective from someone who goes to the games. What is impressing me about BMD is the quiet, thoughtful way he's going about his business. Speaks when he has something to say, unlike Colin who just loved the sound of his own voice. A lot of his comments after the game last night made so much footballing sense; a diamond formation utilised because it suited the players he had at his disposal (Colin would have played Lees up front and EHD at CH!), needing to be more clinical in front of goal (in Colin speak, Ross was crap).

I'm wary of classing two swallows as a summer as most of us, with some notable exceptions (welcome back, Riot ) were initially impressed with Colin, and look how that turned out! But BMD seems to be a proper football man, who thinks about the game and has instilled some confidence back into players who looked disinterested during the last knockings of Colin's reign. Early days, of course, but I'm quietly confident that he can and will take us forward

Pretty much what I saw last night 64, sums it up pretty well.
I can't quite figure out what formation was being used but at a guess I'd say a 4-5-1.

His tactic is definitely about retaining possession along the back line, and repeatedly going to the wings to stretch teams.

For me Austin and green will do well under him, without the ball austin was sat a little bit deep in the normal Anchor role, but when we had the ball or broke he was flying down the right.

Agree entirely Dez....preparation & professionalism is key to our future success & McDermott ouzes those qualities

Looking at the table now you could say McDermott has saved us as by this coming Saturday we'd have probably been sitting in the bottom three

Only hope he gets some backing in the transfer market because if he does not i fear next season could turn out a bit like this because we really do still need 3 or 4 new faces but the main problem could be getting rid of some of the dead wood.

Better yet, tally up the cost of all that deadwood and we could be talking a lot of money. And all we have to show for it is a championship play off final defeat, a relegation, a league one play off final defeat, a league one runners up, and three aimless years in the champ.

Agreed - but LUFC still have to pay off the contracts of worncock players McDermott doesn't want. Which will be subtracted from the "warchest" he says he's been promised by GFHC....If THEY are still "owners" when the window opens this summer. AAAAGH!

Paying them off or letting them sit in the west stand for a year... Either way it makes no difference in the long run ro the total cash outlay. That will already be budgetted for. With any luck we can fob a few off to other teams as well through loan or sale, reducing or eliminating the wage outlay.
