Maybe he didn't. The point is that Norwich thought so and were prepared to offer him Premier League wages.Bakerjamessteven wrote: It still baffles me how becchio ever thought he was good enough for the prem, and Norwich too
Football is a short career, if you were offered double or treble your wages in return for training through the week you would take it.

The start of the end was when Ronan started to follow his artistic leanings calling himself Blanksy and spraying his graffiti all over Belfast.gessa wrote: So sad, one of the internets greatest love stories, crumbling in front of our very eyes.![]()

Money's nice, but If I was a professional football I would be want to play week in and week out, if it meant a pay cut and a lower league, I would do it to play every weekGuildford White wrote:

No mate, that's being an amateur footballer who loves the game.Bakerjamessteven wrote: Money's nice, but If I was a professional football I would be want to play week in and week out, if it meant a pay cut and a lower league, I would do it to play every week
Professionals know it is a short career that could be ended at any time by a bad injury and a very long retirement, quite possibly 50 years. They maximise their earnings in that short career, and nobody can blame them

Re: O/T Firing Blanks
I disagree GW. I am so fed up of hearing this same argument trotted out about footballers having a short career yaddah yaddah yaddah. Firefighters could have their career ended at any time by a bad injury for instance and on a daily basis rather than perhaps once a week during a 90 minute kick about. Why are footballers wrapped up in cotton wool and cossetted, excuses made for them? Let's say for instance an 18 yr old footballer manages a career to the age of 35 at £20,000 per week, he gets £18,720,000. Let's then say an 18 yr old (in another career) earns £20,000 per year and has to work until he's 65, he gets £960,000. Yeah yeah I know, the second one may have a wage increase but it won't be by much. You get my point though?Guildford White wrote:

I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Re: O/T Firing Blanks
Is there anyone on here that would not change employers if they got double the salary for doing exactly the same job (or less)?
Most football players are poorly equipped to do anything much afterwards, if they are any good they leave "normal" education at a very young age and don't have much to fall back on.

Re: O/T Firing Blanks
I don't know what he was on at Leeds or what he is on at Norwich, but surely there is a point when the amount of dosh is a bit irrelevant? I take the point that earning potential in a career is fairly limited - and maybe even more so should it be curtailed by injury - but insurance would cover it surely.Yosserwhite wrote:Is there anyone on here that would not change employers if they got double the salary for doing exactly the same job (or less)?

I would rather earn less and be happy (and I have changed jobs for that reason) = I would rather earn less and play every week than sit on the bench.
