Re: Brian Must Go!!
Brian uses the like factor on the fans wake up - I feel for the two wingers - We don't play the ball to them to run down the wing what I have seen long ball down the middle. I don't mind if we were playing good football and trying. What I seen its the same rubbish I had endure against Blackburn on New Year day. We all need to look at 2014 -2015 season. I don't think the squad is that far off.
There s nothing wrong hoofing the ball down the middle if we are 1-0 down with 5 mnts to go. its called overload.

Unless our future to which McDermott refers to is another 3 seasons in the championship because that's what contract they are signed up for.
OK, so you are the manager. You have inherited Warnock's squad of aged journeymen and misfits.
You have a transfer kitty of £1.5 Million.
Do tell us which Premier League stars you would buy?

Doesn't matter who we bought the football we are playing is Sunday league style. Look at Rochdale playing 3-5 passing moves week in week out. We struggle 3 passing moves for the 90 mnts.Guildford White wrote:

Not the question. ldsutd said that Brian should be building for the future by buying Premier League players, hence: who would you buy with a transfer kitty of £1.5 Million?

I don't think that's what he said GW, he was trying to make the point that other posters are saying BMC needs time to build for the future, building for the future would mean buying quality players capable of playing in the premiership (or via the youth setup.) We all know that that's not possible so BMC needs to work with what he's got and he's not doing that very well
and, before we get the usual argument, what he's got is really not that bad..there is a good team here. the right training, tactics and team selection would help.

Re: Brian Must Go!!
But is there really a good team there? This was a squad that was in danger of relegation last season. He has added some cheap, younger players (Murphy, Smith, Wootton), he has brought a promising youngster through In Mowatt and he has had us in the top half of the table all season - a significant improvement on last year.faaip wrote:

He is rebuilding a scouting network from scratch (Bates closed it down) and the discovery of young McDaid is evidence that this might be starting to work.
It takes 2 to 3 years to build a promotion squad, he is still in the first year but I am encouraged by the basics that he is getting right with the TA setup.
Failing some mega-rich sugar daddy buying us (and Cellino is not known for throwing money around), youth is the way to go. If by any chance we can turn the Butland loan into a permanent signing that would be a great start.

You confuse me Leon - if faaip has hit the nail on the head, you must agree that there is a good team here. The tenor of your normal posts would suggest you think otherwise?1964white wrote:

These players are young and have time to grow into premiership quality players.ldsutd wrote: yes i do know how much prem players cost. very small memory havent you, Snodgrass, Howson, Johnson, All played League one football as did Llanna, Lambert, Hoolahan, Ruddy, and many more younger players who worked up the leagues getting better with age.
For once a manager has brought in a couple of young players with potential and you are already slamming him for doing so.

Re: Brian Must Go!!
The championship is nothing special Martyn, we are a poor side amongst many average teams, an astute manager could probably get us in the top six, doubt BM has the nous at this stage. I have a horrible feeling he is a one hit wonder with his success at Reading, hope i'm wrong.Guildford White wrote:

Tbh if Cellino is given a approval to take over the reins at ER I suspect a new manager will be at the helm pretty sharpish !

the difference is the players you mention were good players at a young age, you could always see Snodgrass and Howson etc. was quality players for our league it was just a matter of time they was going to go up a level it's just a shame they didn't go up with Lufc lol.

Re: Brian Must Go!!
At least there is a footballing debate going on here than the usual TOMA drivel
Our footballing style isn't there yet. We can all agree that. Brian would have to take some of the blame here, he hasn't morphed the team into this style. I's also worth noting it can take more than a season for a manager to get players playing a style of football (Rodgers at Liverpool as an example), it can also happen overnight (Pulis at Palace) and sometimes the manager just can't get the best out of a bunch (countless examples...AVB. Di Canio. Moyes?)
I think the potential in our squad exceeds the current standard we are playing at, but I don't think this is completely a result of Brian's ability. We can throw Rochdale out as an example til the cows come home... that's what happens with consistency, time, stability and everyone pulling in the same direction. In the past 5 years when have we had anything resembling stability? Or togetherness? The number of players in our squad over the past 5 years, including loans, would be huge. And the common theme between a vast majority of those signings would be short-term desperation.
I don't know how much Cellino is going to throw at the club. It could well be he puts aside £10m and in that case, we could gamble on the short term instant success. (Though don't complain if our team is 40% italian cast offs and he does away with the youth set up - sure we'd have no need for it if we were big spenders.)
However the case as of now, and has been for the past 10 years, is we are on a shoe string budget. Grayson made some good signings. Warnock made some terrible ones. I'm no psychic but I think some of our players would make it in a struggling Premier League team (a phase we are going to have to go through btw).
McCormack, Smith, Hunt (already proven?), Mowatt, Murphy, Pearce, Byram all at least stand a chance. Remember when we tried to sign Joel Ward and he chose Palace over us? He is now a regular in the Prem and doing alright - don't think many would have predicted that. And yes we seen the quality in Howson and Snodgrass, but don't try and tell me you saw premiership potential in Johnson, and that he would make more starts than Howson, Becchio and Beckford. Combined. Because if you do, I call bull. In fact if you can look at players in this league and say, with confidence, which ones would make it in the Prem, you may want to seriously look at a scouting position in a top Premier League team because currently it seems very few people can accurately predict who does and doesn't make it.

Points well made Leeds mango and i can`t disagree so i`m on your side here regarding who and what player[s ]. can or might be good enough its hard to be sure.Look at Zaha and see that the step up is sometimes huge. I suppose us Leeds fas not to patronise anyone but all we are seeing are mediocre and has beens so to speak .As for Bmc D chopping him now is plain stupid and in the summer let`s then decide what `s what for me he needs a fair chance and it dosen`t look like he`s going get it and that`s sad and not right.

you don't understand my initial post regarding the quality of players Brian has brought in. I am not saying I can name players to take us forward for the quoted £1.5 mil as I don't have the scouting system or the list of players banded around by agents but the point I was making is that a number of ops posting on this forum keep mentioning that we are bringing in players for the future and they need time. Well I cant see the likes of Smith,Murphy ect making it in the premiership as I am sure that is where our future lies.

Yes, I do understand your post. You said he hasn't brought in Premier League class players. That is true. I asked you, given a transfer kitty of £1.5 million, which is all he had, who do you think he could have brought in who is Premier League standard?
Given time, several of our squad could be. So what would you have preferred him to do with such scant resources?

Supportive?
Just because I live further away and can't get to many matches a year does not make my observations wrong, I have heard people lambasting our own players every time I have been to ER, Even as far back as the Prem years (Okay I was guilty of this then too, Smith my target of choice).
So are you telling me the occasional silence at ER is imagined?

Re: Brian Must Go!!
Talent spotting is so easy. Remember that season when Andros Townsend came to us on loan. We all said straight away 'He'll play for England.' Same with Jake Livermore, Ross Barclay. Nailed on certs. Remember that Max Gradel chap - yeah the one who got sent off v Bristol, the guy who was rotting in Leicester's reserves. Why did we sign him - he had no future, greedy as well.
Football is littered by players who get overlooked and then make it. Players that look sh*t then something clicks. The players mentioned above didn't loo great at Leeds, add the likes of Barry Bannan and many more, but then look at what they have done since. Crainey booted out of Leeds played in the prem with Blackpool etc.
