The worrying thing for me is that McDermott can do nothing when the players cross the white line they should have more respect for the team and fans.

This for me is the key. It is all about progress and momentum. Poor results can be tolerated if we see the team developing and playing good football, if we see light at the end of the tunnel. Likewise poor performances can be tolerated if we are picking up the points and keeping up the momentum for a potential play-off charge.

As it is now this season is over. BMc, if given until the end of the season, has to bed in the system he wants to play and fit the players that are in his long term plans into it. We all know certain players are not good enough so don't play them, if there are holes plug it with players from the youth side.

BUT

given the way results and performances have been since the turn of the year, I won't be manning the barricades if Cellino decides to get rid - so long as he brings in a real manager, not just a job for his mate Festa

can I ask what it is you've liked and how is he rebuilding the club?..

If Brian is going to go and we can get the same replacement that now that we can get in the summer, then he must go as soon as possible. The new manager (if there is to be one) may not be able to improve the squad but at least he can learn about the players strengths and weaknesses, see if they can play the way he wants them to play and start planning now for any potential replacements.

How about
  • Changing the TA training pitch to be the same size as the ER pitch
Rebuilding the scouting network (we had none after Bates)
Getting the TA trainees and development squad to train with the first team
Buying, with the little money he had, young players who can improve rather than journeymen looking for a last payday
Talking to fans in person rather than through a column in a national newspaper
for starters
Bates, GFH, Cellino: Same s**t, different arseholes.

Brian can't bring in any players. Neither can a new manager.
We lose a lot of the deadwood in the summer.

It will be of no harm or benefit to give Brian to the end of the season to see if he can get these players (now that they are his players) playing his way. If not, then he goes at the end of the season, the new manager has a full summer to get his players and integrate his style.

Plus I've yet to see one reasonable, achievable and excitable suggestion for a replacement manager yet. The same could be for Cellino. Perhaps he should get into the club first, and start the search and recruitment drive for a manager that matches his ambitions and goals, and that can fit in with the heart of this club. Because like many on here, I don't think he knows who that is now.

Good post GW. I like McDermott, I like everything he stands for. His career as a manager has largely been a success, a prolonged period at Reading and he brought stability and premiership football. The stability part is the key, both on and off the pitch... I think the fans have to re-allign expectation in line with the reality im afraid.

Success is more of a marathon than sprint. Would I like to see Leeds back in the Premier, Hell yes. I'd also like to see us stay there. The fans wanting that this season cant see past the fact that were we promoted, we would get battered week in week out by the likes of Stoke and Fulham, because the players arent good enough.

Thats the bit that gets me about the calling for McD's head. Once the players cross the whitewash, its all on their heads. If there is no passion, no effort, no desire etc. That is all on them im afraid. If there are 30k fans cheering them on im lost for why they wouldnt / cant perform to the best of their ability. Perhaps its because the old timers arent good enough?

McD is building for the future, thats the part that I like. bringing in Wickham & Butland is excellent, but I would rather see them in for a full season on loan - where we would really see the benefit. the likes of Byram, Wooton, Mowatt, Stewart Poleon, Dawson etc. are the future of this club, chucking them in at the deep end when we are playing crap wont do them any good, which hopefully explains Byrams lack of gametime, having brought in Murhpy and hopefully some more youngsters at the end of the season we will move forward.

Keep the faith.

if the manager sends players out without clear tactics, consistency of selection/formation and under prepared then it's not the players fault if they play bad once they cross the white line...

I'll argue GW's points later..and they are arguable.

On that basis, no manager should ever be sacked.

You obviously didn't understand what I was saying. I didn't say that Brian should be sacked. I said that if the plan was to sack him in the summer, then they should sack him sooner rather than wait.

Why wait till the end of the season? get someone new in and let them asses the squad and look for replacements before the window opens not wait till it is open before starting to look.
Every game I predict a 3 - 1 Leeds win, I am traditional like that.

I got it H. I made a similar point earlier, those who want to give him the end of the season really want to give him much longer...they're pinning their faith on his niceguyness and hoping he gets the shedload of luck he got with Reading...(I expect there are fans up and down the country whispering the mantra .."maybe we can do a Reading"..and not just ours...It seldom happens.) We get the continuity argument...continuity only works if you have the right guy to start with...(the right guys qualifications should at least include being able to work with the tools at hand)

Doesn't matter who we have as manager in the summer because the sort of players we will be bringing in won't be available until after the world cup :roflmao:

It really is hard to comprehend those on here who think McDermott is the man for our future, nice guy yes but good managers learn from their mistakes & ensure their teams don't get battered on a regular basis.
