Spot on.
The enthusiasts ignore the 4 and a bit seasons he was in charge of the team at Forest Green and concentrate on the one season when Boothroyd was in charge of Watford. We know his record.

The advantage Hock has is Cellino who has decent european contacts & a good eye for a player.

Re: Leeds v Accrington Stanley : Team/Reports/Ratings
Some Forest Green fans admit they played nice football, they just didn't win games.
I hope at Leeds he can achieve both, if not Cellino will boot him out of the door. And as critical we are of managers, it would seem Cellino is far more critical.

Not impressed. Going in hard is one thing and is to be applauded, that sort of behaviour could cost us an important game.

The trouble is at conference level that are you ever going to be able to attract players that are capable of passing but also capable of creating something from it? Players that can do that will already be playing at a higher level. People always go on about the Crewe Academy and the footballers it has produced over the years but exactly what success has the club actually achieved? If their football academy and pleasing football was so amazing they'd have surely at least have reached the championship by now. Contrast that with the Wimbledon side that stormed from non league football to the top flight and won the FA Cup playing hoofball. Playing football is nice but to be successful it needs better footballers than those traditionally found down in the lower leagues.Guildford White wrote:Spot on.

Do we have the players capable of playing good football and winning matches? At present the answer would have to be no. The hope is that some of the existing players show they can do it and the players brought in can do it. But it will take time and will rely on good fortune that the bargain buys are capable of doing it.

Did not attend the game but from reading reports on here and in the papers there seems to be a lot of difference in opinions can take in the fact the quality of the opposition but that was not chosen the real test will be the forthcoming league games will maybe know a bit better after the Watford game but if for one still do not rate Hockaday.

Being critical of something, supporting something and commenting on something on an internet forum are all mutually exclusive. One does not equate the other.
Can we stop referring to Hockaday as an unknown or unproven quantity. He is a known entity. We know he struggled at Forest Green. We could get Guardiola in the hotseat and call him unknown if it made us feel better. Most are saying, if we had someone with more successful experience at the passing game and Cellino's backing, we'd have a much better chance. Hockaday is not a big name but he is not unproven. We don't need a big name, but it would be nice to have someone who had a history of making the passing game work.
In spite of point 2, I will refer to point 1 and get behind the team. Just like, for example, I would support Hunt as a striker, but would be alot more content and optimistic in my support if it was Messi. I highly doubt Hockaday reads this forum for my comments to have some sort of butterfly effect on how Leeds perform and therefore, as point 1 indicates, these comments are in no means relevant to support. However, if some of you feel that your self-proclaimed positive comments correlate with you being a better supporter, then that is a nice mindset to have. If you keep it to yourself.
Antidote to those who think Hockaday is a disasterous appointment and we're laughing stocks for appointing him..so no. Every time I see an anti DH post I'll probably respond (though I'd never question anyone elses support)
I'm disputing the failed manager bit at conference level.. not successful certainly I'd stipulate to that. Also he has coached a team to the Premiership...I know Boothroyd was the manager but Boothroyd subsequently failed at Colchester, Coventry and then ultimately at Northampton..(I'd imagine the fail rate if you assume sacking/parting of the ways as a failure must be around 90%) So who knows how much influence Hockaday had in that successful season...

Again ..no idea how this will end up, I never dragged myself to Forest Green bi-weekly so I've no idea how he did there. But the signs are all positive with very few if any wtf moments...

You yourself had a WTF moment when he picked Hunt ahead of Smith last Saturdayfaaip wrote:Again ..no idea how this will end up, I never dragged myself to Forest Green bi-weekly so I've no idea how he did there. But the signs are all positive with very few if any wtf moments...

But on the same Hockaday logic...Hunt can not be negatively challenged. He's with a new team with a new manager compared with last season. Better players, should equal a better performance. Cherry picking the positive results off Wikipedia, he was voted player of the year, has scored goals at Premier League level, is an international and has gotten promotion from this league. Let's give Hunt a chance eh?!Guildford White wrote:You yourself had a WTF moment when he picked Hunt ahead of Smith last Saturday

Hockaday didn't see last season, he can only go on what he sees in training and perhaps he sees Hunt putting in a shift every day. Maybe he deserves his chance. If he doesn't play well in games though, I'm sure Hockaday will have to turn to someone else.theleedsmango wrote:

I said very few if any, The Hunt selection did seem a wtf moment but I've kind of revised my opinion a little. I will give you that one as one though and still have it fit in my very few criteria
