No i didn't think Hock was the right man for the LUFC job, but i don't want to see the likes of Grayson, McAllister or O'Leary managing Leeds again, we can do better than all three !
So on what basis would Grayson be a step backwards from the disaster that was Hockaday?

I'm not saying we should go back, I am just astonished that anyone would think Hockaday was better than Grayson

It would be a step backwards for the club if we employed Grayson above the other favorable candidates we have been linked with !

I agree SG would be a massive step up on Hockaday and BMC...easily the best of our last 5 managers though that's not saying that much

People always remember the end of a reign, when things are going bad. No one ever mentioned the incredibly tight defence we had for half a season in League 1, the defence that was conceding so few goals that when we went to Old Trafford in the FA Cup I actually went there with confidence, not just blind 'fan' dillusions, that we could win. That was the defence that kept out Rooney, Berbatov and Wellbeck. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 433901.stm
No one ever gives SG the credit he deserves for then being able to rearrange a team that had lost its most potent striker and counteract a sh*t defence with a team capable of scoring enough to win games 3-2. No matter how great the coaching is/isn't you can't keep expecting a manager to produce a watertight defence without spending money, especially when losing Naylor(signed on a free) to age, Kisnorbo(signed on a free) to injury, the keeper who's name I forget, to injury (signed on a free), Crowe (signed on a free) not being able to make the step up to championship, Schmeichel (signed on a free) sold for a profit, Andy O'Brien (the only one signed for any sort of money c.£500k) to depression. SG was not a miracle worker yet he performed some near miracles at Leeds. He also proved extremely good at motivating the team to punch above their station several times in Cup matchesas well as also motivating Blackpool and Huddersfield to perform in play-off finals.
So yes maybe towards the end he was getting a little distracted. Maybe he'd taken the team as far as he could with no backing and players continually being sold and money not re-invested.
Could Grayson do a decent job with decent players at his disposal? Yes, he already did.

Sannino: Did he jump or was he pushed, or has a little bird been whispering in his ear... come on over to Leeds.
Beppe Sannino stated he resigned as Watford’s head coach for the benefit of himself and the club and said “I feel I have gone as far as I can”.
Sannino today handed in his resignation and his departure was confirmed by the club tonight.
The Italian’s passion for his job and Watford has never been in doubt but his managerial style has long concerned players, and also the club.
His aggressive nature, communication and training are all understood to be issues.
The Watford Observer revealed 12 days ago that Sannino’s future was in serious doubt and he has today walked, seemingly, before he was potentially pushed.

Employing Grayson may provide entertaining football but the only way we'll achieve future success is by keeping a tight ship at the back, teams have a much better chance of winning football matches if they keep clean sheets as was the case in our current campaign when we played Middlesbro' & Bolton at ER. The art of defending is just as important as the attacking side of the gameweasel wrote:People always remember the end of a reign, when things are going bad. My point is clean sheets on a consistent basis will provide us with more success in the future, our goal average & the six points we've gained so far would have been a lot worst had we leaked goals v Boro & Bolton gamesGuildford White wrote:And we are so good at that that we have a goal difference of minus 5 already.

I'd take Grayson back he's very popular in our house as my misses and eldest both liked him. When IOU look at TGE team he had in league 1 and the team he got sacked with it was a poor side he had but still did well agter losing his better players. Team needs to defend better which it will with bellusci and berardi at the back. Italians know how to defend

Also people not looking at previous reigns in context to what was happening outside of the club. As you said, Grayson worked well with what he had. It's not that he couldn't produce a tight defence; it's that he didn't have the best resources to do so. LVG just lost 4-0 to MK Dons; do we label him as a coach who can't set up a defence or do we look at the personnel and point out he had little chance? Grayson isn't a miracle worker but he got the best out of what he ha; he could maybe get more out of a more talented squad.
I wouldn't actively pursue Grayson as the club needs to move on. However, if he was signed, i'd have no concerns over the future that I wouldn't have with an untried coach.

The defence will get better the more thy play together, imo. We've rarely started the same back four this season!

Re: New Manager / Coach Rumours
I'm flabberghasted our fans want failed managers back at ER
McAllister....remember Histon oh & Andy bl**dy Robinson
Under Grayson we should have been at least challenging Norwich for the L1 title with the players we had in that team such as Ankergren, Naylor, Kisnorbo, Snoddy, Johnson, Howson, Gradel, Beckford, Becchio, etc but in the end we only just scraped automatic promotion. Larry didn't do well at Huddersfield & is doing okay-ish at Preston.
I doubt many on here were at the Swindon, Hereford, Exeter, plus many other games where we put in some woeful performances although every Leeds fan will remember the Scum game !

Re: New Manager / Coach Rumours
Without actively campaigning, I wouldn't mind Grayson back. He was good until Beckford's defection announcement screwed up morale in the squad and all our insecurities returned 2-fold. SG didn't have the backing to get the defensive resources needed at the time he needed them.
I agree with weasel and GW on this and also echo whoever it was (Kyle I think) who asked when we last consistently enjoyed watching our team!
Also, a big plus is that he loves Leeds. He got the job of his dreams and was crushed when fired. He would really be out to prove the injustice of his sacking and show everybody how much he fits in and wants us to do well.
The only danger is, Cellino might be jealous, but if MC and SG could somehow share the glory I could see a great future.
(cough)I also still like Beckford(cough)
Just saying
