See, the games I went to under rosler , I'd say we were a hell of a lot more solid than we were under anyone else recently. I don't think it was that he necessarily 'played for draws' over the fact it was a new system with new players that hadn't quite clicked up top yet.

Rosler got ONLY 12 matches, that is a real shame. Not sure you can call him much of anything, except not given a proper chance.

You could compare it perhaps to when George Graham took over and laid the foundations by first making us more solid and then once we had become hard to beat slowly introduce the flair (such as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink). People/fans seem to think that you can just come up with a formation overnight and suddenly all the players will fit into it and all know how to play it perfectly - works on computer games not so much in real life.

I can't recall the last time we didn't win at ER in our first six matches

That said it wasn't like we were getting thrashed - we drew 3 of the 6 games and of the 6 games 3 came against sides that reached the play offs and the other 3 matches were against teams in the top 10. The real problem in the early part of the season was the lack of goals (just 4 in the 6 home games). Defensively we were reasonably solid (barring the complete f*ck ups but that is individual error rather than formation/shape issues).
Rosler's formation was reliant on wingers. He only had 1 (Dallas) for most of his reign. It was also reliant on having midfielders who could score but the only one we had, Mowatt, had injury/fitness problems. Given his time again I am sure Rosler would have made panic buys to fill those holes but I think that he believed he was being allowed to build long term and as such was waiting for the right players to become available.

I agree, you could see a plan and a certain way of playing and I am sure given time we would of reaped the rewards later in the season and into this new season with a few new signings and players coming back from injury which included Wood and Mowatt.

100% agree - especially if trying to bed in a new formation/system/style.

The performances v Burnley and Derby were as good as any performances I have seen in the last 5 years. Some of the football played was great to see. Even v Boro after the early f*ck ups we played some great football. Okay a couple of drab performances but the potential was there to see when we did get it right.

Even only in October the moans started. As this forum is made up of fairly reasonable people, others certainly were howling for Uwe to get the sack long before he did. Think Cellino pulled the trigger prematurely due to him wanting to be liked by the fans, and listening to the biggest mouths instead of listening to reason.

Absolutely.

Whoever is going to own this club had better have thick skin because our fans are who they are. We have the best fans in all the world, but "ardent" doesn't even begin to describe us.

The performance vs Brighton was good as well (probably our best home performance of the season) on another day we would have scored 3 or 4 goals that day. Derby away was the performance of the season by far.
I am very confident that had we given Rosler more time we would have finished 8th/9th this season.
