Re: England/Iceland
It was a disjointed performance, Sterling should never have been bought back, Sturridge never got into the game , playing out of position, he was like a duck out of water, Rooney was awful, Kane as been poor all tournament, the passing from all of them was woeful, they were by and large beaten on the hour, the looks on their faces showed that, nothing coming from the bench to change it around, then the masterstroke bring on Rushford with 5 minutes to go.1964white wrote:Iceland have no professional clubs however they have a system & play to their strengths as oppose to our lot who play in a mega-money league & have no game plan whatsoever
Iceland were far better than England could ever dream of

The players should take some responsibility over tonight's shambles! They were appalling. Couldn't even get the basics right. Yes, Hodgson got his team selections wrong, yes Hart should have been dropped, and Rashford should have been on half an hour earlier, but he shouldn't be responsible for the fact that the players couldn't even string a pass together.

Yes but that's what training is for...if those players can't do the basics it has to be a coaching fault. Also Hodgson radiates fear and negativity.

Painful wasn't it!
We deserved what we got - bye bye Roy.
Thank you fur getting us to the finals unbeaten, but that was the end of the good stuff.
Thank you for having the decency to resign.

Re: England/Iceland
heres a funfact for ya: It is 1890Km from London to Reykjavik, that is also the exact distance of Kane's missed set pieces in total.

Re: England/Iceland
Was Sturridge on the pitch ? Didn't notice him.
Is there a better keeper than Hart - ought to be .
Rooney - awful - all passing went astray .
Sterling - can run but do nothing else .
Kane/Vardey - didn't do much at all - no service though .
Team by mid first half were reporting to desperate off target long shots . Didn't manage a worthwhile effort in second half when it was needed .Hodgson - reminiscent of McAllister v Histon .
The whole set up of England from the very beginning ( I'm talking prior to going to France ) was wrong .
Oh well , better luck in world cup 2018

Re: England/Iceland
This hopefully will show the next manager a number of glaring things
Only take players who are actually playing for their club
Only take players in form
Don't take players based on their reputation
Rooney isn't the answer in midfield - yes he played well in the first 3 games but he only played well not great
We need a good young English Manager next - Eddie Howe strings to mind but I doubt the FA will be that brave, they'll go for Southgate as interim, we'll win a couple of friendlies so they'll give him the job permanently.

I haven't had any expectations for many decades whatsoever Benny. I said at the beginning of Euro 2016 we had no chance of progressing very far in the competition so put that in your pipe & smoke itBennyfishel wrote:My condolences to you poor poms, MISSED OUT YET AGAIN ON SILVERWARE![]()

Re: England/Iceland
Yet another England manager fails, Hodgson just the latest in a long line of failures. Whilst Woy has been castigated, and rightly so, the common thread through all these failures is the players. Shearer called it last night, English players are not as good as they, their agents, their exorbitant salaries and a jingoistic press would have you believe they are. The Premiership might (debatable) be one of the best in Europe, but that is down to the foreign players and coaches, not the home grown talent. The sooner the public accepts that, the easier it will be to get some proper perspective on these constant 'failures'.
Oh, and a word for Iceland, whose achievements have been almost completely lost in the wailing and hand-wringing. For a country without a professional league, and whose population is similar to that of Leicester's, to make the QFs of a major tournament is fantastic. Well done to them, amazing what passion, commitment and a plan can achieve.

Re: England/Iceland
Right now: England get slammed by the press
Over the next couple of years: England quality comfortably for the World Cup despite a couple of setbacks...press claim that England has a great chance of taking the Cup
Pre-World Cup build-up: England pull off the couple of very good results and the press going into orgasmic over-hype about how there isn't a county in the world with England's depth, quality and pure brilliance. Press claim at least half the team is 'world class' and would easily get into any other international team, while few foreigners could get into the England team.
World Cup: England, as befitting their ranking make the round of 16 or quarter finals
Post World Cup: English press pillories the England team.

Re: England/Iceland
We were simply outplayed.
Don't like people knocking Iceland's performance - they passed better than us, closed down and tackled better than us and created more chances than us! Yes they defended deep, but at no point were they 'hanging on' like Wales did and they were much more expansive than Slovakia, who didn't even attempt to create anything.
There were a couple of chances that we should have taken - Vardy and Kane had efforts saved which they would have scored a few months ago, but this set up has starved them of form and confidence imo.
We need the new manager, whoever that might be, to do away with the favouritism shown by Roy (and a lot of other past managers). I think Rooney did well for the most part this tournament, but he was poor last night. Sturridge shouldn't have been anywhere near that team, Walker hadn't played as well as Clyne did vs. Slovakia and the less said about Joe Hart the better.
Barkley must have been there for a holiday as he was nowhere to be seen, and a half fit Wilshere Who hasn't played more than a handful of games in two years shouldn't be your first choice sub in midfield...
You pick players in form and fit them in the system. Drinkwater should be furious and there's a case for Andros Townsend even - we lacked a plan B with no width on the bench...
Unbelievable, but entirely predictable exit.

Iceland were superb, they had a plan/system (unlike England) & stuck with it, they also played with endeavour & plenty of passionGenghers wrote:We were simply outplayed.
