The Scratching Shed account on Twitter reporting (again) that young Charlie will be gone before the season starts. Allegedly the club are already 'spinning' where the blame lies. As I've said before, we'll always lose our best players whilst we're in the league, but losing him would be a particular painful kick to the clockweights. Hopefully it's talk and nothing more

Reading between the lines, Taylor has said he will not sign a new contract and with only 12 months remaining the club will probably get more for him now ,why he won't sign is unclear, WBA seem favourites for his signature.

If we do sell him we need to sign 2 left backs. Rico Henry who was linked earlier in the window would be number 1 choice and then we need back up.

To be honest, I'd rather get the money for him than have the will he/wont he sign for the rest of the season - it destabilises the squad and usually results in us not looking ahead for a replacement.

Makes sense to cash in if he is adamant he won't sign a new contract, but would still be a big blow

boils down to how important full backs are - I'd say less so than other positions.

I'd rather have a solid full back than an amazing one, and be stronger in other positions.

Still a big shame if we lose another young talent.

that is a role of a full back yes

but a solid full back can deal with that aspect of the game - someone with less ability and worth than CT. CT is a bit of a luxury imho - one that I hope we keep but just making the point!

and anyway, a good centre back pairing can deal with that aspect - heck Leicester won the league title letting crosses come in because they know that Huth and Morgan will deal with it.

I personally don't that Cook, Byram or Taylor are ready for the prem yet !

'Yet' being the operative word there. They may not play week in week out, but they will get game time and will benefit from playing with/against better players.

We've taken an out of contract 32 year old Italian full back on trial. Playing for the U21 tonight.

The lack of signings coming in now is getting concerning with just over 2 weeks to start of season.

We badly need at least 4 more quality signings. One Central defender an absolute must, as is a playmaker in central midfeld. Likes of Grimes (from what I have heard), Mowatt, Murphy are way too similar and lightweight. Also another striker for me, not sure we have enough up top to get the volume of goals you need to score to get into the top 6. Left back as for me, if Taylor isnt going to sign, get rid now and get as much as you can, probably around £3m with him in last year of contract, instead of him doing a Byram on us.

Nowhere near enough quality if we are looking to compete for the play-offs
