January Transfer Window - Have we done enough ?

Overall the January Window seems to have been a good one with the quality signings of Henandez, Pedraza & Barrow & also retaining Taylor

However have we done enough ?

Are we still vulnerable in key areas especially in the No.5 & No.9 positions ?

The key is in Pedraza & Barrow we have improved the first XI as they are much likely to be better than we already had so for once we haven't bought what i consider bit players. We look to have far more pace in our locker now !

Agree Leon just a bit worried we didn't bring in another Centre Half nor a Centre Forward option got to hope we don't pick up many more suspensions or injuries in these areas as we are very light

Probably one of the most perfect Yorkshire-sounding series of all time, if a few cockney pals from the early 80s were to be believed.
They teased me mercilessly but I think I got them back in the end - all good fun though - made a couple of good friendships out of that.

Perhaps a bit surprising with who we brought in as going into the transfer window most of us probably would have expected a back up centre half and striker whereas we would have probably felt we were okay with our wide options with the likes of Doukara, Roofe, Sacko, Dallas and even Hernandez able to play on the wings. However the problem is in signing players could we sign players better than Bartley, Pontus and Wood and if not then how easy is it to sign someone to come in simply as back up but yet be good enough to start?

Clearly Monk wants more from the wide positions and it looks like the 2 new signings also have a bit of versatility and perhaps was the only area of the team where Monk could actually get better players in than we currently have as our starting options.

Remains to been seen if either are as good as Roofe who is ours and not some short term loan probably not here next season.

I wonder about that, but console myself with the thought that the new boys are here to get us up there, after which Roofe will prove himself once and for all, and be a real force for us. I'm with you on his potential.

Both signings could be tailor-made for the prem should we be promoted, only time will tell.

To me it looked like in the absence of Strikers we have gone for guys that can play there.

Would like to have seen a Centre mid and a left back in.

My main concern is the lack of a back up CF, Monk clearly wanted one as we were strongly linked with Fletcher, Bogle and Grabban but none materialised. If Woody gets an injury we have no stand in who has any sort of track record in the Championship, Antonsson may do it but it's a a lot riding on an unproven player. At least at the back we know what we are getting and GM knows what to expect and I reckon feels that Coops and Ayling can do a job for us, might cost us an odd goal here or there but we should cope, if Wood's goals are taken out of the equation it will be a whole different shooting match. But hey a lot to be said for a small focussed and together group.....as long as they stay fit - in GM we trust.

This is testament to how the club has moved forward. In previous windows, Charlie would have been gone at the first sign of a few quid being dangled at us. Him being hurt has helped, no doubt, but Monk putting a marker down before the window opened that he wasn't for sale was a positive sign.

The lack of back-up for Wood is a concern, but getting a decent replacement to play second fiddle was always going to be an ask. There's creativity in the squad; if we lose Wood for a spell, we have to hope that others can step up. With two out-and-out wingers signed, you'd like to think there'll be plenty of chances created

Taylor staying is a huge statement of intent by the board and a real blow to the MC haters. Despite this many are bleating on about us not having spent money presumably thinking the loan signings cost nothing.... It would have been easy to say sell Taylor for £7m and then spend £5m on a striker.

Barrow, I think, has played as a striker before - seem to recall reading that he scored something like 10 goals in 18 matches for a club.

Not really. Were he still sole owner, then yes, I'd agree..........but we've been here before and it's probably pointless having the same discussion over again.
