Even if we were to lose against Udders, it would still be better than having 2 draws - thank you weasel for your anticipated kind words.

Ugly win but all about picking up the 3 points. Friend of mine was there last night and he sent me some clips on he's phone, absolutely magnificent support with nearly 6.5k Leeds fans there. Amazing !
If we can get a win at Hudds now then the team decision for the Sutton game may have been vindicated I guess.

In the other thread about the upcoming 5 matches (disregarding the Forest one which hadn't been scheduled at that point) I said I would be delighted with 9 points as it wouldn't be far off the 2pts average - as it is we now have the 9pts from the first 4 matches so even a loss v Huddersfield isn't disastrous (especially when the Forest result is thrown in as would still be a 2pt average over 6 matches).Norm wrote:Even if we were to lose against Udders, it would still be better than having 2 draws - thank you weasel for your anticipated kind words.
Usually 1.5pts per game on average over the season sees a team finish around 6th or 7th so as long as we can keep averaging over 1.5pts per match or win then lose then win then lose, we should finish top 6.
A draw with Huddersfield in some ways however wouldn't be a bad point as it means a promotion rival dropping 2 pts also. Against promotion rivals is the only time when draws are useful (although if losing to any team with a minute to go would take a draw).

The Sutton team selection didn't need to be vindicated - however the fact that we had fresh legs still in the 90th minute and Pontus hadn't been injured/sent off v Sutton definitely helped.Gurj wrote:Ugly win but all about picking up the 3 points. Re: Blackburn v Leeds - Team/News/Reports/Ratings
Well that was hard work, certainly not easy on the eye but it says a lot about the character of this team to win the game particularly when Rovers drew level. In previous seasons we'd have conceded again & lost the match. Not the case with this Monk side as they upped a gear, worked a couple of corners & with Hernandez precision crosses & the likes of Wood, Bartley & Pontus in the box we always have a chance of scoring from a set-piece.
Jansson's superb header was described on the coach back home as something out of the John Charles textbook, a supreme bullet header. I was informed we've have scored from ten corners this season as oppose to scoring twelve in the last five campaigns
To be fair we probably didn't deserve the win, we made Blackburn look a half-decent side, truth is there not & we had only ourselves to blame as we struggled to get a foothold on the game. At times it was schoolboy stuff as the ball pinged around with no precision whatsoever. We were poor in the middle of the park hence not creative enough upfront with our first shot coming in the 74th minute when Bridcutt's superb pass found Dallas who finished off with a sublime low finish from a tight angle
We looked better with Vieira playing alongside Bridcutt + Doukara & Hernandez on the pitch. Pablo should be one of the first names on the team sheet.....why was he on the bench ? we missed his quality
Poor performance, however three points playing badly. We need to up our game on Sunday

Re: Blackburn v Leeds - Team/News/Reports/Ratings
The first 45 minutes were very forgettable with no real attacking play. The introduction of Hernandez improved things, then Diukara made a little more improvement but for me the final piece in last nights jigsaw was Viera who made a real impact and added some much needed muscle to the midfield. We hadn't looked much better than Blackburn till he came on and broke up play and ran with the ball and made telling passes. Dallas's goal was very well taken as up to it he had been fairly anonymous. Then with the clock ticking down up steps Pontus "Magic Hat" Jansson to send the LUFC hoards into raptures, a fantastic header and didn't he enjoy it.

It did for me and many others mate. We disrespected the FA Cup immensely on Sunday and got our bottom's slapped, which served us right. The only justification for me would be beating Blackburn and Hudds otherwise resting them all would have been a daft exercise.weasel wrote:The Sutton team selection didn't need to be vindicated - however the fact that we had fresh legs still in the 90th minute and Pontus hadn't been injured/sent off v Sutton definitely helped.

I am beggining to wonder whether the Bridcutt/O'Kane partnership works ? I think Viera is a must be sunday as its going to be abattle in the middle of the park for sure and he will have learnt a lot after the Barnsley debacle.1964white wrote:

Re: Blackburn v Leeds - Team/News/Reports/Ratings
Sometimes having 2 players in the midfield just to break things up is the best policy, especially away from home, meaning we can keep things tight and then introduce a bit of flair later in proceedings.
For all we were reasonably poor last night Blackburn really weren't allowed to pose us many problems. Us being a hard to beat team is a great policy especially as we are now capable of nicking goals in tight matches from set pieces.

Re: Blackburn v Leeds - Team/News/Reports/Ratings
We have no divine right to beat any team regardless of what team was selected against Sutton. However not risking injuries or suspensions to the first team definitely gives us more chance of beating Blackburn and Huddersfield. Guessing however that you would have preferred to have Monk select the first team against Sutton, hopefully get a win, because even with a full team a win would not be guaranteed as no guarantee that the other first team players selected would have given their all ala Doukara who was awful against Cambridge and Sutton, pick up a couple of injuries and lose to Blackburn.Gurj wrote:It did for me and many others mate. Saying exactly the same to one of my mates at the game Gurj, they are very similar in fact they tended to get in each others way last night.Gurj wrote:I am beggining to wonder whether the Bridcutt/O'Kane partnership works ? Great result. True promotion form when you scrape a late winner when you don't really deserve it. I remember when Cardiff got promoted a few years ago, they beat us 1-0 at Elland Road even though we were all over them. Marshall saved them throughout - it was one of those results that only teams on the up can grind out.

Similar to how we lost 1-0 to Burnley last season.Cravex wrote:Great result. True promotion form when you scrape a late winner when you don't really deserve it.
