The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tue 5 June)
Good Morning Everyone
Popular South American media outlet Fichajes Goleador have confirmed on their Twitter page that talks had been successful and that Bielsa was 99% of the way to becoming the new boss at Elland Road.
If this is true, how did Leeds convince him?
Bielsa would not have been short of offers from other clubs, so what assurances would Messrs Radrizzani, Orta and Kinnear have made to the 62 year old?
Our biggest concern must be lack of transfer funds, so what kind of assurances would Bielsa have been given regarding a transfer kitty.
There are fresh reports linking us to Brum Keeper David Stockdale. This is not the first time the ex Brighton shot stopper has been linked to his boyhood club, but reading an article today from reliable journo Phil Hay gives the story more credence.
According to YEP's top sports writer Leeds top target between the posts is Citeh's Angus Gunn but Leeds are still waiting to find out whether Guardiola will allow the 22 yo out on loan again.
As we know Jansson has been speaking to the press agai about whether or not he will be at LS11 next season.
Is he entitled to say what he is saying?

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tue 5 June)
Morning Ell,
Whatever Radz and co have promised Bielsa, they'd better deliver. He has form for walking if he doesn't get what he wants.
Initially I'd have jumped at Stockdale, but seems he's hardly played last season, is out of shape and is likely to demand £40+K a week. Gunn seems to be a very good young keeper, but where does that leave BPF? Had a good end to the season, is now a full international (GAWA!!!), does the hierarchy think he's not good enough?
PJ can say what he likes, and wanting to see the club's plans and ambition regarding next season is not unreasonable. When he signed his contract last summer, you have to imagine he was given some assurances as to what direction we were going in. With the best will in the world, we've stalled badly. That said, he needs to look at his own performances which fell below the standard he set the previous season. And, if he is angling for a move, then do we really want him?

Morning 1304, Stockdale was fantastic at Brighton, then he refused to sign a new contract with them when they went up as he wanted a 3 year contract. Next thing you know Harry taps him up...lufc1304 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 8:12 am Morning Ell,

40k a week is far too much money for a keeper in the Championship. If he had been a proven goal scorer that's a different matter.
BPF was great at the back end of last season, but can he do it consistently week in, week out. Whether its Stockdale or Gunn, they would want assurances of the number 1 jersey...

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tue 5 June)
Sounds like it's all about the money with Stockdale, never a good trait in a player, imo. I take the point re BPF, there was no real pressure on him as our season was effectively over, but maybe his performances merit a chance as number 1. The management seem to think differently, so we shall see. We certainly need another keeper, either as back or first choice, as I think both Felix and Lonnergan will be out the door.Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 8:23 am Morning 1304, Stockdale was fantastic at Brighton, then he refused to sign a new contract with them when they went up as he wanted a 3 year contract. Hopefully they have dangled the appropriate carrot for Bielsa to take up the post at ER making him the promises that are required to create a new Leeds United set-up capable of achieving success in the future

Re: The LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tue 5 June)
Pontus has every right to say what he feels about the club after he was originally made promises under Cellino's ownership that Leeds United had serious ambitions aiming for a place in the premiership. Radz comes along employing rookie coaches, they deploy a liability as a captain & then lumber him to play alongside the likes of Pennington, Cooper & Shaughnessy. Is it any wonder his form & confidence dipped ?Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 7:12 am As we know Jansson has been speaking to the press agai about whether or not he will be at LS11 next season.

If Pontus makes a move to a premiership club I wouldn't blame him after last seasons fiasco as he doesn't want to be trudging about in the championship with a bunch of dead legs seeing his ambition & career go up in smoke !
David Harvey for me

Here are some stats from Popey, Hay and Mike Teakdesk.
Bielsa's last contract was worth 8m.
When he left Lille, he was paid 12m compensation for the last 18 months of his contract.

Morning Leon, if the Bielsa deal goes through, will that change your perception of the hierarchy?

Morning all.
I don't think we need to spend silly money in order to compete. We've good some good players already, then the likes of Hernandez available on a free, show you don't have to overspend. Use the loan market well, Bielsa is well respected, so maybe we could get some Man City, Atletico, Real etc loans.
I don't want Stockdale, £40k a week is ridiculous and this would be like Ridsdale all over again, throwing around silly money.. Gunn on loan or a free backup and go with BPF. Stockdale wouldn't fit Bielsa's style either. Worries me that the club just seem to be reading twitter opinions and thinking that's who we should sign.
Jansson is perfectly entitled to air some of his grievances, I completely agree with him too. I doubt he'd have signed a 5 year deal if he knew we were appointing Barnsley managers and being happy to finish midtable. I think he'll stay and if we don't go up he'll leave, but if we do, he'll be a hero.
Martyn.

Morning all, the Pontus quotes really stood out for me, horrible attitude from the guy, deflecting a lot of issues away from his performances, sunshine player, easy to stand up and lead when things are going well, they were not this season and he went missing, now to come out and say there I interest in him and question the clubs ambitions in public, regardless of if we have cash or not. Is he just looking for more cash?
Disappointed in his performances and attitude, big fire fighting for whoever comes in

Afternoon SG90, I suppose if we sign Bartley for 3m, Hernandez (free) and either Stockdale (free) or Gunn (season long loan) that would be three improvements from the season before.SG90 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 10:54 am Morning all.

A few questions though!
Is Cooper good enough?
Is Pearce ready?
What about Ekuban?

Hi Ell.
Woke up with a bad feeling today, something tells me Bielsa wont be our manager, not sure why. Have a niggly feeling it will be Matias Almeyda we appont.
Dont know what Radz could say to convince him, he would demand a huge transfer kitty, he would want massive wages himself, and at 62 does he really want to move to a new country where he doesnt speak the language?
No to Stockdale from me, another who being from Leeds has turned him into something he isnt. 2 good seasons at Brighton, thats it, he is 32 and has spent the majority of his career as back up.
4 seasons as 1st choice really.
2 good for Brighton.
2 bad , 1 for Brighton and 1 for Birmingham.
Not worth the hype or the cash. Ok gk but thats it, ok, 40k a week is to much for ok.
He is entitled to say it, but he needs to stop hinting at leaving, its getting on my nerves. If he wants to go then go, he is saying a bit to much now imo, next time he is asked "no comment" will do. Can understand his frustration, but as a senior player not sure he needs to keep repeating himself in the media.

I think it would be quite a coup if we did get the Argentine.
It would certainly be entertaining. We're Leeds - we love the drama!!!!!!
There was an incident some time ago that some disgruntled Rosario fans turned up at Bielsa's front door.
Not only did Bielsa answer the door, but did so with a live hand granade in his hand......
The crowd dispersed.....
