Oxford United v Leeds United Official Matchday Whinge

Post by The Subhuman »

Two friendlies to go if you don't count the Guisley game (and I don't.) This one sees us travel to another L1 team where the result is immaterial as we're not really testing ourselves quality wise.
Team news

Marcelo Bielsa once again switched his side for the trip to Southend United on Sunday with the majority playing 90 minutes. He could revert back to a similar side that faced York City last Thursday. Tyler Roberts made an injury return against Southend and he could once again feature at the Kassam Stadium.
No mention of Blackman starting, I'm assuming he's our Stoke City goalkeeper so would be nice to see him get some game time. Only one run out for Pablo so far is strange. No sign of least seasons best LB Pearce, looks like MB thinks he's junk. He'd be wrong

Still no clues to starting formation and personnel for Stoke...We can probably rule in PJ, Coop as captain (mistake) and Ayling but no idea after that , perm any 2 of 6/7 centre mids, and we don't know who's going to be leading the line yet

Preparation wise this season isn't going well

LUTV down so guessing there will be no video feed, unsure if there will be a radio feed so may have to rely on twitter and the official site blog for updates

I just don't know what to make of his selections and can't see what we've learnt, also still no press conference that I've seen from Bielsa for him to set out his thinking. All that lot together with some gaping gaps in the squad all lead me to being very nervous about this season.

Bielsa wont play players till he feels they are ready, adamant about this, hence why he likes his signings done early.

No clue, he was training with the Chelsea squad before he came, cant be injured.

Bielsa has his ways though, even if we sign new player will he deem them ready for Stoke :duno:

Phil Hay said that Chelsea only started back 2 weeks ago, so in terms of conditioning he'll be behind the rest of the squad.

Obviously keepers probably need less fitness than outfield players but as we keep getting told, Bielsa has his ways...

Think it'll be a similar team to Sunday tonight tbh. Guiseley are obviously much weaker, so I can imagine that the squad we take there will be closer to the u23 team we saw last week.

Basic conditioning should be down to the player anyway, it's match fitness that's important and keepers need less of that

Blackman, Huffer, Roberts, Ideguchi, Vieira, Baker, Dalby, Klich, Diaz, Pearce, Clarke, Rey, Edmondson, Shackleton, Stevens.

Blackman gets his game.

Big mix there. Do we think the senior players are likely to be bench fodder in the main season?

No idea what is going through MB's mind right now...We have this and tha home game to prepare for the new season and this is a B team squad bar Blackman, Vierra, Baker and hopefully Pearce ...I can see one central defender.

Hernadez one run out so far will almost certainly not be game ready (unless he plays v Guisley) come Stoke...

Gotta hope he starts to play a “1st team” in the last couple of pre season games

Giving everyone a chance .......lots of gaps to fill in this squad though
