Im just perusing the menu at Grassington House Hotel where we’re staying tonight for my wife’s birthday. Had a lovely walk down the riverside to Burnsall and called in the Red Lion for a swift one before walking back and having a rest before dinner at 7.45pm.

Grassington House Hotel was a favourite haunt of another Rich who use to post on here.
Had a lovely day out in Grassington with Revie-era (Rich) & is now bereaved wife a few years ago

Like others love Grassington, not been there for a while now though.
We used to stay at the Devonshire 4 times a year for a good number of years, food was tremendous, in different hands nowadays.
Grassington’s one of our favourites and we’ve stayed here several times, love the atmosphere of the place with it being a typical Dales Village with shops, cafes and good pubs with log fires and real ale. You can relax and feel miles away from anywhere and the good thing is it’s about an hours drive from home.

Bathams bitter, and whatever the pub serves up with chips. It's boules night, and we're freezing at the moment. There's a roaring fire inside though... get on with it!

Burnsall Red Lion is lovely rich. And a stunning picture postcard location....
Tonight’s menu is dictated by the need to empty the refrigerator before the arrival of the real estate agent in case he needs photos showing how spectacular inside of the refrigerator is. The fare therefore is: a salad containing home grown romaine lettuce and the contents of a bag of store bought salad fixings; Greek feta cheese, some in the salad and some by itself (it may not be good but its better than most of feta around here which is serbian and which smells like a leper’s toe jam); and National Hebrew hot dogs.
I went local. Weather finally turned nice, so I rolled out the Weber grill and grilled a couple of grass fed ribeye steaks (medium rare, of course) with locally harvested wild mushrooms and zucchini from the farmer's market. Served alongside a really nice Norton from Hickory Ridge winery (just down the road in Pomona, Illinois). Blueberry cobbler for dessert with vanilla ice cream from the good folks at Mileur's Orchards.
There are some advantages to living in farm country.
