Ridiculous comment. Cooper is a liability IMO and is severely lacking bottle in big games where he has dropped a few clangers. I'd rather Cooper left instead of Pontus.WhiteRose wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 10:39 am I didn't think I'd ever say this but cooper is probably better any way, there are mistakes in both him and pontus but coopers distribution is better he knows his limits and doesn't get delusions of dribbling through midfield. White looks to have the pace that we sorely lacked in our centrebacks Last season and I think they signed him as a first team regular not backup.

So after touting him about the best we get is Brentford? For 5MGenghers wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 10:15 am It's a bit naïve to think that all this happened in a day. The rumours have been about for a while and I'm sure we've been touting him about.
It is interesting that some PL clubs were reportedly interested and now seem to have cooled. It would be a worry to me as a potential buyer that a team is willing to part with one of their best CBs just before a season.

For those of you who think stats tell the story
Jansson in XI:
37 Games, 18W, 6D, 13L.
1.62 points per game, 48.64% win ratio. 29% clean sheets, 1.21 goals conceded per game
Without:
11 Games, 8W, 2D, 1L.
2.55ppg, 72% win ratio, 54% clean sheets, 0.81 goals conceded per game

Re: Sell our Swede on the cheap.
Further to my post yesterday Leeds Live have done some research (so I cannot verify if it is accurate or not) and they suggest thatweasel wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 8:57 pm Last season in the 4 matches that Berardi and Cooper played together (Stoke, Derby, Rotherham and Middlesborough) we only conceded 2 goals. One was a penalty (foul from Douglas) and one a free kick. So we actually conceded 0 goals from open play. Notably the Middlesborough game was our 6th of the season and saw Berardi and Cooper reunited after injuries had stopped them playing in matches 4 and 5 - which despite PJ playing well (alongside Berardi) v Norwich (we kept a clean sheet) saw Bielsa recall Cooper at the expense of PJ. It clearly shows that even a month into the season, and 22 days after the transfer window had closed that Bielsa saw Berardi and Cooper as his first choice pairing and but for Berardi's injury PJ would have likely remained as our 3rd choice centreback.
Last season (Championship):
Jansson in XI:
37 Games, 18W, 6D, 13L.
1.62 points per game, 48.64% win ratio. 29% clean sheets, 1.21 goals conceded per game
Without:
11 Games, 8W, 2D, 1L.
2.55ppg, 72% win ratio, 54% clean sheets, 0.81 goals conceded per game
The fact there is 48 matches is because PJ came on as a late sub in 2 matches (v Rotherham and Middlesborough) so really the matches with PJ are even worse as those 2 matches should be taken out as PJ came on in the 88th minute and 91st minute so hardly featured really.
As such (if I am interpreting it correctly) then PJ's proper stats should be
35 games 16W 6D 13L
1.54 points per game, 45.71% win ratio. 26% clean sheets, 1.29 goals conceded per game
Now I know our form tailed off a bit but that was also with PJ in the team. It wasn't a case like how poorly we did when Pablo Hernandez was absent for example. Considering it is a decent sample size (near enough 1/4 of the matches this season didn't feature PJ starting) it is staggering that we averaged over 1 point more per match without PJ.
Bielsa is a coach that bases his game on statistics (most notably create more chance than the opposition and you should win more often than you lose) and I feel it is these sorts of statistics (as well as various other bits like successful clearances, pass percentage etc) that has led Bielsa to decide to sell PJ.
Sometimes the eyes can deceive.

Noticeably slower out of defence with PJ in the team, he had a habit of killing moves before they started. I think that's a massive issue in Bielsa's system

Couldn't agree more faiip. The pedestrian build ups were frustrating and painful to watch at the best of times. Everything needs speeding up so it doesn't allow the opposition to get set.

Just my opinion mate call it ridiculous if you so wish I guess you are from the sun shines out of pontus's arse brigade which is your prerogative of course. Cooper is a popular member of the team and often leads by example, sure he makes the odd mistake but he more than makes up for that with what he gives to the team. Maybe janson plays well for himself but negatively impacts the performance of others, guess that's ok for you, I'd rather a unified team spirit.MightyWhites wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 2:30 pm Ridiculous comment. Re: Sell our Swede on the cheap.
One celebration that always stuck out for me this season was when we scored the 3rd goal v Blackburn to win the match 3-2. The ball was played in and Roofe heade it in, with PJ in close proximity. PJ wheeled off in celebration on his own (almost as if he had scored) and basically ignored all the Leeds players, 3 were celebrating with Roofe. Although PJ was delighted to win it always seemed like he made the celebration all about himself rather than celebrating with the team, he actively then runs away from the group celebration and swerves rather than celebrating with the Leeds subs on the sidelines.

It's only my opinion to call yours ridiculous. I am not bothered if Pontus goes to a certain extent, but I want his full value and a decent replacement. I don't see why people think Cooper is better, he probably cost us the play off final with his errors, and they weren't the first from him when it came to an important match!WhiteRose wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 6:54 pm Just my opinion mate call it ridiculous if you so wish I guess you are from the sun shines out of pontus's arse brigade which is your prerogative of course. IMO if Pontus goes then we need two decent centre halves, and 5 million is not going to get them.

Fair enough it is a forum just thinks it's nice to be respectful and put your point across without belittling the comments of others. it was probably janson's attitude which procluded him from being in the starting lineup for that game had he been on he may have made the difference so whose fault is that. Any way we agree about the fee but you cant risk keeping him around all year, not playing or training with first team and been next to worthless next transfer window if bo ones offering 10 million what else can you do?

Re: Sell our Swede on the cheap.
Tyrone Mings played a total of 22 games for Bournemouth over 4 seasons.
He made 18 appearances for Villa on loan this year.
Villa signed him for £20mil giving Bournemouth £12mil profit despite him barely kicking a ball for them over 4 years.
Lloyd Kelly is 20 years old and has less then 50 career games to his name, Bournemouth paid £13mil.
We have given Jansson away, 2 times in 3 years was named in a Championship team of the year.
The fee is pathetic, whatever the reasons its pathetic.
Brentford are experts at getting bargains and they have one now.
The club rejected or accepted £10mil 12 months ago and he has just been named in the PFA Team of the year, his true value should go up not down.
Cant understand how anyone can defend the fee.
People condemn PJ but how do we know he isnt in the right? Maybe he vented and it was true.

All this side before self bollocks about Pontus, yet Berardi selfishly got himself sent off at 3-3 with 15 minutes left and gets to stay.

If they were so desperate to offload Pontus, then why not loan him out? He has 3 years left on his contract, so why accept such a derisory offer so quickly?
We had 4 "crown jewels", we've sold Clarke and Pontus already, Roofe has 1 year left and that just leaves Phillips.
How are we going to raise £12m for Costa if we don't go up?

If he was such a disruptive influence and Bielsa hated him so much, why did he pick him 39 times?

Re: Sell our Swede on the cheap.
People suggesting we shouldn't accept such a derisory offer for Pontus, issue is that you have to have bigger offers come in to be able to accept them.
Maybe he is well known as a troublemaker within the camp, maybe teams want to stay clear of that and Brentford are the onyl ones willing to take that gamble?
I dont have any facts, but if he is worth more why are teams not banging our door down?
