Garry Monk pits his wits against Marcelo Bielsa as the White visit their South Yorkshire rivals at Hillsborough on Saturday lunchtime.

Monk of course enjoyed a twelve month tenure in the Elland Road hot seat during the 2016/17 season and were 11 points clear of 7th place towards the end of March. However, keeping up with tradition, Leeds form in the second half of the season dipped and they found themselves in 7th place, overtaken on the penultimate game of the season.

Monk then quit, deciding that Middlesbrough offered a better chance of promotion. Things have not worked out the way the 40yo would have liked and he now finds himself at Sheffield Wednesday after being relieved of his job at both Middlesbrough and Birmingham City.

What kind of reaction will Monk get from the Leeds Utd faithful?




Bielsa has some big decisions to make. Dallas's form has dipped since moving the Northern Ireland International into midfield, but with Shackleton, Hernandez and Forshaw still on the treatment table what will he do?

We all know that he will not tinker with his starting line up, unless absolutely necessary, but the Argentine is suddenly under pressure to mix things up!

Should Dallas be dropped in favour of Tyler Roberts who has impressed in recent games having come off the bench? If so, would you rather see Dallas or Ayling at right back?

Can Leeds play two up front? If not, will Bielsa persevere with Bamford, ahead of Nketiah? Is it time to drop Costa?

I can’t decide between this is the game we really don’t want the Wendies with the Monkster in charge or it’s the best game for us and we’ll smash them

No matter what you think about him Monk isn’t stupid (even though he is Ginger) so guarantee he puts out a big , physical team lots of high balls into our area, by pass the midfield if they can, let us have the ball in our half where we can’t hurt them, or in Bambi’s case in their box in front of goal ( sorry couldn’t help myself )

Can't keep relying on the teams around us to slip up like we did last season. Granted, this is proving to be a 'proper' Championship season with how tight it is in general, but now's the time to start putting solid runs together and I just don't have the feeling that we're going to win games before they start like we had last time. Hopefully we'll peak later on but I think this has draw written all over it.

It will be the same team as against Preston. Same format as every other, bashing away with no bite in front of goal then with 15 minutes left bring on Eddie and Roberts and possibly Douglas.

We will have maximum possession, do nothing, they’ll score at the death and shut up shop.

Bamford won’t produce, Harrison will put in cross after cross with only 1 in 5 actually being anywhere decent, Costa will be hamstrung because he never has the room to run at defenders and Phillips and White will be the outstanding players once again.

Sounds despondent? A little bit but we are second in the league so something is going in our favour but how long can Bielsa persist with ineffective strikers, players not in their natural position and opposition knowing he never rotates and rarely uses subs before the 70 minute mark?

I don’t actually know what I’m trying to say Just for the love of all the gods let’s hope they play like we all know they can, smash the wendies, play Eddie and Roberts for longer and have a plan B

Monk did the double over us with his anti football last season.

We know what to expect, well organised, hard to break down, aggressive (and quite dirty and happy to foul to break up rhythm), play on the counter, lots of hoofs in the general direction of Steven Fletcher (or that giant bloke whose name i forget) and hope to pick up the bits and pieces. They also have some pace now which they have lacked for a while and Forestieri back.

Personally id like us to do the opposite of what they expect, id like us to drop off and give them the ball. No way Monk would have prepared for that, i think that would really screw their game up.

Looking at Wednesday's results so far they have had as easy a start as you could expect in the championship.

So far they have beaten:

Luton(H),Barnsley(H),Reading(A),Mboro(A),Hudds(A),Stoke(H) and Wigan(H) - All 18th or below.

Of 13 games played They have played 10 games against teams in the bottom half and 2 teams in the current top 6 which they lost. The remaining game was a draw at home with Fulham.

Seen some of their fans think they have a chance of promotion and they might yet but the second quarter of the season will be much harder for them.

If we start pretty much the same team tomorrow it has 1-1 written all over it.
