Re: January Transfer Window And Squad Discussion
Is FFP an issue?
We we gamble and go up FFP has no impact and TV money a plenty. If we gamble and don’t go up the likes of Phillips get sold and we bring in £30m plus.
In 6 months time we are either preparing for the Premier League or rebuilding for another season in the Championship without Bielsa. We might as well gamble now.

And Ayala can score with his head when in the opponents box as witnessed at WBA

If FFP is causing problems for Arsenal then I don't see that Leeds are exempt.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 4:32 pm Is FFP an issue?

Unless we can come up with some creative accounting I fear there will be no activity durning this window.
Arsenal and FFP
Re: January Transfer Window And Squad Discussion
If the Cardiff/Birmingham games wasn't enough to change Marcelo's mind, nothing will
I predicted every time Birmingham attacked us that they would score, just said 'here we go again'
Stubbornness is Bielsa's biggest problem, rather than simplify things he'd prefer do it the hard way
Hang onto your seat belts folks!

Indeed, can't see it happening thoughYorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 4:32 pm Is FFP an issue?

Amazing we are so vulnerable in various positions
Re: January Transfer Window And Squad Discussion
I'd be happy with that scenario

Our ffp situation is weird.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 4:32 pm Is FFP an issue?

£30mil in fees received.
Largest turnover of non parachute payment clubs.
No chairman has had a smaller net spend at LUFC i can remember.
Some say we are a well run club under Radz but we need to sell £30mil of players to survive? How can we be well ran?
Without getting jumped on and having an argument, if selling assets and replacing with loans isnt asset stripping then what is it?
Its promotion or we are in trouble and could take years to be in this position again.
No Bielsa.
No Phillips
No White
No Harrison
Hernandez another year older.
If we cant afford to spend after bringing in £30mil then how the hell will we replace them next summer?

Height & Power
Why can't our management see it when it is blatantly obvious to the majority of our fans?

Re: January Transfer Window And Squad Discussion
Every Tom Dick and Harry can point out obvious things and suggest a solution. For much of the season the answer to our problem seemed to be Eddie replacing Bamford. Bielsa stubbornly backed Bamford and what fans seemed not to realise, at the time, was how integral Bamford was to the whole system. Replacing Bamford with Eddie may have fixed 1 problem but created so many more. The answer simply isn't to buy/loan 1 big centreback unless he can combat all of the opposition players. The opposition would simply play balls into the area where he wasn't. Unless you have 5 or 6 big units then you cannot man mark all the opposition danger players from set pieces. As such Bielsa focuses on the cause of the problem rather than the problem. Bielsa I am sure is focussed on us not conceding as many set pieces and not allowing the opposition to put the balls into our danger areas rather than dealing with it when it gets there.

Re: January Transfer Window And Squad Discussion
Problem with the likes of Ayala is they're lumps ..big men with almost zero footballing skills in terms of fast break..So lets forget Ayala we need a 6 foot ball playing centre back better than Casey and Struijk..
The number one attribute for a Bielsa CB is comfort on the ball and a good range of passing. Then Defensive skills then height. Ayala would probably resort to hoofball.

Think you will find I have always stated Bamford was integral to the way Bielsa wants to play if you care to look. By the same token I don't think that means he or Bielsa are immune to criticism.
I give way to your greater insight though.
I'm of the opinion though that if someone plays well say it and if their gash say it.
If he has focused on the problem he is a long way from solving it

The point is we concede loads of corners & throw-ins, you need height to cope with championship teams, the majority of them play for set-pieces to gain an advantage.weasel wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 5:28 pm Every Tom Dick and Harry can point out obvious things and suggest a solution. With Bamford, Cooper, White & Ayling we have four players over 6 foot tall who are capable of winning headers, having another tall CB such as Ayala in our squad wouldn't go a miss in the second half of this season. Right now take one or two of the above out of our team & we have a problem. Fans blame Kiko for coming out to catch the ball, he has no choice because of our lack of height. Yes Casilla messed up v Birmingham however he has saved us countless times catching a cross or palming it away from the danger area.
This current Leeds team prefer the ball on the floor, they look uncomfortable when the ball is in the air

Another point is that in 21 matches out of 25 we have conceded either 1 goal or 0 goals. We may look uncomfortable but we have dealt with the supposed problems in 84% of our matches.

But Coops isnt a ball playing cb.faaip wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 5:36 pm Problem with the likes of Ayala is they're lumps ..big men with almost zero footballing skills in terms of fast break..So lets forget Ayala we need a 6 foot ball playing centre back better than Casey and Struijk..

He just lumps it when pressed, watch him for Scotland, teams dont sit off Scotland and he looks panic stricken when pressed same as he did vs Preston.
Teams sit off us so much it hardly requires great skill beyond being able to pass it 20 yards to the full backs or KP.
Personally think the ball playing cb at our level is a bit of a myth, none of them are that good.
Can understand it at the highest level but 2nd division cbs? Not really.

Shame Casey & Struijk are not ready for championship football whereas Ayala is a recognised hard experienced CB at this levelfaaip wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2019 5:36 pm Problem with the likes of Ayala is they're lumps ..big men with almost zero footballing skills in terms of fast break..So lets forget Ayala we need a 6 foot ball playing centre back better than Casey and Struijk..

I see on a site you highlighted last week that Ayala is considered Boro's 2nd best player with a rating slightly higher than Cooper & a half a point higher than Berardi so signing a solid defender who averages 7/10 over the season wouldn't be a bad move imo!
I noticed our keeper/defence hoofed the ball several times at St Andrews when we had our smallest striker playing upfront, important we win the 2nd ball when we play that way which wasn't always the case.
