Due to the strong gales our 18ft x 7ft fence at the bottom of our garden has snapped away from the the posts & is still standing only because of the conifers, small trees & shrubbery. Fortunately our lovely neighbour Joe who is a top handyman dug new holes & inserted posts yesterday & will finish off erecting the fence today.
I see York/Tadcaster only 25/30 miles from us are badly flooded again as are many parts of the country. If only the rivers were dredged as they use to be years ago the consequences wouldn't be as bad as they are this weekend
Travel diversion for us going back from Leeds to Cardiff this morning. As all trains are cancelled from Shrewsbury down through to Newport We’ve had to get a Leeds to Plymouth train and then change at Bristol Parkway for Cardiff. So currently sat on a somewhat crowded train approaching Sheffield.
We came up for the weekend thinking we’d hit the worst of the weather in Yorkshire, only to find we left the worst weather at home. Particularly badly hit is RCT where I work. You’ve all probably seen the clips of Pontypridd on the news where my office is, the street through the town is like a river, as the River Taff has burst its banks. Some of the villages further downstream before you get to northCardiff have been really badly hit. Terrible for those residents
Garden is under 6 inches of water at the back. Greenhouse has about 8 inches of water in it. Lot of stuff floating around. We're built on Frimley marshes here and the water table in a normal year is only 3 foot down. The older property owners down the other end of the road must be holding their breaths as subsidence has happened many times in the past to some properties ...

As soon as I heard that a second wave was on the way, I decided to leave my fences on the floor, as once down they can't fall down again..
However, 2 of my aviarys have lost part of the corrugated perspex sheet roofing that was supposed to keep the rain out... Yesterday afternoon the budgies were all under the open bits bloody showering!! ungrateful little barstewards........

Yes we saw the flooding on the news this morning
Our friend Steve who you met when we were down in Cardiff has just rung us saying all the rural roads apart from the A40 around Abergavenny are flooded.
Brecon, Usk, Crickhowell, Hay-on-Wye, Hereford not good too!

How much longer was your journey home today Cat?
Luckily it was no different (perhaps even a little quicker even) than if we'd gone on the planned route, as the train between Cardiff and Manchester stops at every (well almost) little station going and when we got off to change at Bristol Parkway we just crossed the platform and got straight on a GWR train, which was 50 mins behind schedule due to flooding in a tunnel somewhere between Reading and Swindon I think.
I suspect is pretty bad up where your friend lives as that'll be why that part of the network was closed

Having ones property damaged by flooding/subsidence must be terribly distressing!
Too hot, I hate anything over 25 degrees and that's at my outer limit...Need to be near water. Had to get up at 5 am to take a shower. I beginning to wonder if I wasn't adopted..My mum loves the heat, my sister loves the heat. My dad could sit out all day in 90 plus degrees go as brown as a berry and never burn.
