Re: Tyler Roberts
Also Roberts has to show that he can consistently score. Think he went something like 20 games with 1 goal, albeit predominantly in more of a no.10 role. At present it is the ideal scenario having an option like Roberts fresh on the bench to come on for Bamford after he tires out the opposition, helps us keep shape etc - even better though if PB can rediscover his coring boots and Roberts can also keep scoring too - or JKA.

Re: Tyler Roberts
Like someone said, it gives us options we haven’t had.
Makes you think ‘what if’, had he been fit all season.

Re: Tyler Roberts
Why not start with that though? Roberts has been unlucky but I doubt he's going to go through his career on the treatment table 4/5 times every season. His luck will changeweasel wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 6:25 pm Indeed but Roberts has more of a history of not being able to stay injury free than those you mention. Ideal scenario is everyone being fit and available and those starting playing well and the subs being able to come on in good match situations and help us take games away from the opposition, like today. How demoralising to be an opposition player, 2-0 down, absolutely knackered and seeing players coming on for Leeds who have bags of pace, ability and energy.

If he stays fit he can be (at the very least) a lovely impact sub, coming on after paddy has tired out the defenders.

We won’t find out if Roberts is the answer unless we play him as a striker from the start. Not necessarily right now, but there is only so long you can keep your main striker in the team if he isn’t scoring. And just for the record I’m a Bamford fan, he does great work for the team.

He'll start next game, and I think he should.
But if Roberts is fit enough and confident enough to make that kind of impact I'd like to see him get more minutes up top.

Re: Tyler Roberts
My main concern with Roberts is his injury record, how many minutes will Tyler give us before he picks up another injury?
Bamford takes a lot of the physical stuff, can Roberts handle being roughed up playing upfront on his own?

Re: Tyler Roberts
Your missing the point Faaip, Roberts must prove he can consistently scores goals week in week out just like our No1 striker has done all season

Re: Tyler Roberts
He’s scored 12 to be fair and has scored 17 in the Championship before. Tyler matched his top tally in the Championship yesterday with 3. Most he’s got in a season before is 5.
So there is an element of him having to prove himself. Bielsa isn’t going to change the system, and it is a change as they are quite different players, off the back of 2 goals.
I want to see Roberts get more minutes up front though.

Re: Tyler Roberts
Bamford has been playing more with his back to goal, hold up man almost. Roberts plays more on the front foot. I think you waste Roberts playing him in the same way as we’ve been using Bamford. He’s got the movement and speed to stretch teams more. You’re better playing in the break with Roberts in the side. But team tend not to allow Leeds that kind of space, especially not early on.

Re: Tyler Roberts
Morning YS, agree Bielsa won’t change the system and a little bit of me agrees with that as I can see Lord Bamford going and scoring a couple against the Dog Botherers as he tends to do that when he thinks his position is under threat, it’s just a shame he can’t do it other times.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:03 am He’s scored 12 to be fair and has scored 17 in the Championship before. I also see the point that Roberts appears to have legs made of paper and is likely to pick up an injury getting off the team coach so it’s a risky strategy starting him from the off, so for Saturday I would start Bambi but with the definite threat of Roberts of coming on at halftime

Re: Tyler Roberts
I certainly think that Roberts would be adept at playing back to goal, we saw his defensive capabilities yesterday with a good tackle in the box, he's the same height weight roughly as Paddy. His passing is very good, his movement and short area burst are excellent. His vision is excellent. I think he could do the same job in a heartbeat but add several layers above thatYorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:30 am Bamford has been playing more with his back to goal, hold up man almost. Re: Tyler Roberts
He is a quality player and still very young, 21 so still plenty of years of football in him, but has a massive question mark over his ability to stave off injury. Is he better than Bamford, most definitely, he has the strength and fitness (when not injured) to do all the “good work for the team” that Bamford does but also he’s fast, skilful (proven when he played at 10) has a good first and second touch, knows how to cushion the play and pass it, oh and he knows how to score goals beyond that 2” off the line.faaip wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:53 am I certainly think that Roberts would be adept at playing back to goal, we saw his defensive capabilities yesterday with a good tackle in the box, he's the same height weight roughly as Paddy. Should Bamford start against the Dog Botherers yes but expect to get pulled well before the 70th minute mark unless he’s scored a hat trick

Re: Tyler Roberts
Roberts took his goals beautifully yesterday against a very poor tiring defence, I really hope those goals kick-starts his career at Leeds. Tyler was never been prolific even in League One as you have implied Adam.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:03 am He’s scored 12 to be fair and has scored 17 in the Championship before. Nice option to have on the bench Rat especially against tiring defences when the game opens up in the last quarter as was the case yesterday.Ratscoot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:42 am Morning YS, agree Bielsa won’t change the system and a little bit of me agrees with that as I can see Lord Bamford going and scoring a couple against the Dog Botherers as he tends to do that when he thinks his position is under threat, it’s just a shame he can’t do it other times.

He's 21 and been with us for 18 months...Injuries at that age are just bad luck nothing else.

Re: Tyler Roberts
For Robert's first goal both him and Dallas were going for the ball at the same time. I was expecting them to kick each others foot and fluff the attempt on goal. Either Robert's was quicker or Dallas pulled back at the last moment, but both of them just escaped a nasty accident by a whisker.1964white wrote: Roberts took his goals beautifully yesterday against a very poor tiring defence, I really hope those goals kick-starts his career at Leeds. The margins are so fine, and the finest ones often fall to Bamford.
