If Liverpool or Chelsea came in with an offer of £40m for White, where he thinks he would probably not get much actual game time, so he refuses to sign because he wants to come to Elland Road, where obviously he would be a regular starter, but we have only offered £22m. Can he force the move even though Brighton would potentially be losing £18m? If Brighton dug their heels in and wouldn’t sell him to Leeds on principle then they would be losing £22m. How would this situation get resolved?
Not sue bbgg,

There's also the fact that he could have his head turned by the likes of Klopp, European football, challenging for trophies and playing with established elite level players.

That would be the pitch, but the reality would be here's your spot on the bench Ben.

My other concern is that the Ben White saga drags on and we end up with a Dan James/Che Adams scenario where Orta's scrambling about on deadline day and we manage to land the next JKA/nobody.

If the big guns are gonna out bid us then better it happens now and we can get players partially bedded in before the season starts, as Bielsa ball/Bielsa fit is gonna be a shock for whoever we sign.

Alternatively, BHA are short of a striker so we could offer £22 million plus JKA = sorted :$$:

Liverpool can't afford to sign anyone this summer, so no way are they spending £40m for White to sit on the bench. I fully expect White will be priced out of a move in this transfer window, but could be available in January if he's not getting games.

Being linked with Rob Dickie from Oxford again. I'd be happy having him as a rotation/third choice, but I wouldn't feel confident with a Cooper/Dickie CB partnership in the PL.

£40m for White.

As anyone who's ever had a bag of chips on any sea front, you know what greedy b@stards seagulls are.

If that's the price then I'll be happy for him to stay at the shite-hawks.

Sure Bielsa can turn someone else into a great player: Meslier, Ayling, Dallas, Cooper, White, Klich etc are all examples of how MB can improve players.

Don't think we can afford to blow most of our transfer fund on BW.

They are also known as binge shoppers for centre-backs, maybe Potter is gonna play 11 centre-backs?

Ben won't learn much from Potter

White will leave Brighton, the question is where will he end up?

Under Bielsa, he'll continue to learn, guaranteed premier league game time

Under Klopp or Pep his game will no doubt improve however Ben would have to be patient for opportunities in the Liverpool & Citeh first teams

I agree with that 64.

But I just don't see how were gonna pay £40 million plus for him. Brighton will be happy to sell to the highest bidder.

He may or may not get an opportunity at Liverpool or Citeh, but I don't see them persisting with him like MB would.

Seems a shame, but we just ain't got the financial clout of these teams yet.

I'm confident MB can make a great player of whoever he deems worthy. He's also shown that he understands the business perspective of the club, so will know that BW is out of our reach financially.

Ces't la vie.

Leeds need to learn to walk away, rather than getting mugged off by Brighton. £40m for a player refusing to sign a new contract and isn't guaranteed to start? Liverpool aren't interested, as they don't have that kind of money. It's just a ploy from Brighton to make us seem more desperate to overpay. He's never even played a game for them, but after one season on loan, he's now worth £40m. It's the Bielsa effect, we can sign someone else for much cheaper and Bielsa will turn them into a star.

I think there are a few big deals going on behind the scenes. New sponsorship, possible investment from other sources whether 49ers or QSI, but everything we've seen so far tells me that Ben White is now Leeds through and through. If we get not only a class CB who can play DM, but someone who is dedicated to our club that's worth a fair bit as well imo.

It all depends on whether or not we secure a fair bit of extra funding but I honestly think White will be worth really silly money - think Van Dijk and Maguire silly - in a couple seasons' time. If so, we might well regret not going for him now.

Why overspend now when his price tag will drop come January? Liverpool aren't signing him, that just potentially maybe leaves Chelsea and they can only spend if they sell first.

I fully admit I'm not coming from a place of pragmatism here, so I'm not going to try and argue the point by any means but we secure him now and we win more games in the first half of the season. We get those points, we stay up. Just a gut feeling but a strong one.

There is a way around the current situation possibly, not great I have to admit but a solution

Liverpool or Citeh pay £40m for White then they immediately loan Ben to us, yes we'd be in a quandary again next season however we'll be somewhat richer a year down the line.

If no one are prepared to play ball we sign Foyth & expect Bielsa to work the oracle on yet another young star in the making

We spend £40m on one player, we can't afford to buy anyone else, so we're stuck with Bamford up front all season and no back up. No back up for Pablo etc. Not worth it and I'd hope the club are smart enough to not be fooled by Brighton.

Hi 64,

I was under the impression that PL rules have changed and that a PL side cannot buy a player and immediately loan to another PL club during this transfer window

Can't remember where I read that, and don't know if it's accurate?
