Re: Ben White
I wish now we had kept Jansson - I'm 100% sure we would still have got promotion with him as our centre-back, and at least the club would have had a permanent contract with him, and hence no talk right now about paying out silly sums for a defender. White has been a mixed blessing really, as now we believe that all our fortunes revolve around him seemingly.
I bet Jansson wishes now that he had stayed.

PJ is the "only player Bielsa got tired of" ..I don't think it was up to PJ to stay.

Re: Ben White
Bielsa wanting to build his defence around him is the answer.
If Pascal is as good as White then he would have superceded Cooper and Berra before now.
Not that I wanted us to break the bank over White....
Foyth can come and play at RB as well as CB.

Re: Ben White
Brighton are playing us. 30m for a centre back who has no real proven experience in the Premiership, is pretty absurd. We sold Jansson for 5.5M, so it totally makes business sense.
Time to move on and use the money to bring in a couple of players.

Time to move on.
£30m is 66% of our apparent transfer budget - an absurd amount of money, even in today’s market.

Re: Ben White - Brighton coach Potter discusses Ben's future
As I suspected, judging by this comment I found on there, Leeds are considered to be mugs in the transfer market ;Fridge wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 4:20 pm Interested to see what the Brighton fans’ opinion was on the White situation, I recently took a look at their forum.
I was amazed to find that they have a 145 page thread dedicated to talking about Leeds fans (this is separate from their main Ben White thread). The thread was only started 2 weeks ago!
That is surely bordering on obsession, seems that even they know that Leeds are the bigger club![]()

Compare and contrast with the Leeds GIMPS. You forget this is LEEDS we're talking about."

Re: Ben White
As much as i want Ben to sign, unless he actively pursues it i think we need to move on.
Theres plenty of options available, i bet we could get players equally as good as white for half the cost.
I'd also like to see Stuijk have a chance, i think we could be as good as white.

They've always been obsessed with us. Tried to start a rivalry in the Championship too, yawn.CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 9:13 am As I suspected, judging by this comment I found on there, Leeds are considered to be mugs in the transfer market ;

Under Bielsa we've lost a lot of our best players, Jansson, Roofe, Saiz, Vieira, Clarke, yet we've come through fine. What people forget is it is the system rather than the player, hence why we can replace them when injured and we don't look out of place. White did struggle at DM however.

White struggled when he first played there ( Hudds or Barnsley away I think)SG90 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 11:24 am Under Bielsa we've lost a lot of our best players, Jansson, Roofe, Saiz, Vieira, Clarke, yet we've come through fine. But he did improve a lot.

Brighton have put a price on Ben White and it is
£50 Million
That is why they have rejected 3 bids off Leeds.

Re: Ben White
Brighton can put whatever valuation they want on him, it doesn't mean he is worth that. Any club, including us, is simply buying unproven potential. Yes he has impressed for us in the championship but it was in a system where the least required attribute for a defender was actually his defensive ability. If you contrast White with Pontus Jannson for example then you could argue that PJ had better defensive attributes but was far worse than White at controlling the ball and passing. White fits our system, PJ didn't and equally no guarantee White will look as good in any other system.

Re: Ben White
Today's Athletic article jointly written by Phil Hay and the Brighton equivalent has given me hope that there is still a possibility that the White deal is not dead. We have had two bids rejected, the last being £22M. It seems that White is very keen to come here, but Brighton still have the stance that they do not want to sell.
However the new contract that White has been offered by them has been rejected (believed to be under £20k per week), and we would be offering more. We would be willing to offer close to £30M (it is apparent that he is Bielsa's No.1 target). Seems the ball is in Ben's court, and he would have to let Brighton know that he is keen to come to us. We are not going to hang around, however, and have Robin Koch lined up if Ben is a no go. He is back in training with them from today, so things should become clearer as the week progresses.
For those suggesting Struijk and Sarr as possible White replacements - both are left footers, which would upset our balance at the back. Koch and Foyth, I think, would both be acceptable (and cheaper) replacements (the latter possibly a loan with an option to buy.)

Re: Ben White
Reported by Sky that Ben has rejected a 3rd contract offer from Brighton and we have returned with a £25mil bid.
That better be in total with no add ons.
And this has to be it, no more bids (we already offering £5mil to much atleast).
Ben clearly favours the move, fair enough, but no more bids please.
Last time.
If they reject and Ben really doesnt want to stay just refuse to sign a new deal and we can go back in in January.
Be delighted if we got him but tbh id have never gone above £20mil.

I would but that's me. 25 M would be a bit of a steal for us imo...About 7 M using CJay's theory and we paid 21 plus for Rio. I think we'll be getting a better player than Rio

Sounds like it'll be our final offer and Brighton will reject it. Good we can move on now. If he's still rejecting contract offers, try again in January.

We are looking at Koch and one more CB who hasn't been disclosed.
