Pick 8 for the preliminary round, I know it's only 4 songs per decade but that's potentially 24 less songs to have to listen to. Just my thoughts on it mate, makes less work for you too.

Re: Mega Fave Song Poll RD 35 - Nominate One Song From Each Decade
Never really been a fan of the ‘Joker’ songs, but needed in order to get up to the 16 number. However, with only 11 players, and 10 in the last round with your absence Ges there’s too many J’s IMO.
Previously, I’ve advocated that Joker songs shouldn’t get through when there were drawn ties, but that suggestion was roundly voted down by the majority of players.
I agree Ges, that it’s only right that we should each give all the songs put forward a fair hearing (unless of course it’s Morrison/PJH/Nick Cave ) and it takes a while to do that. Mind you I think the album thread is far more time consuming in that respect.
If we dropped to 8 songs (4 ties) in the first round I think you’d miss out on a lot of good stuff. Over the rounds I’ve picked up loads of great new tracks/artists I hadn’t heard before. Some players, I suspect, will play safe and just go for well known tracks we all know very well anyway if only 8 songs to start each round. Also, if I understand it correctly (I probably don’t) you may even be out before you start as you’re not drawn out of the hat for the first round
The best thing would be to attract 5 more players (easier said than done I know), to get us to 16. Appreciate that doesn’t reduce the number of songs to listen to, but it does do away with the need for the Joker songs.
The other thing I’d introduce is a cut off to get nominations in and votes cast. Sometimes a round will go on for weeks, as we’re waiting for the same players () to nominate and vote.

No, if you don't get drawn out of the hat first round, you automatically go through to the second round.
Example
12 songs picked, so lets number them 1-12
You make the draw , numbers 1-8 come out of the hat and paired for the first round,we vote, 4 of those songs go through to the next round to join songs 9-12, which in essence have had a bye into round 2.

Yeah, I could live with that
Re: Mega Fave Song Poll RD 35 - Nominate One Song From Each Decade
Or.....................
we could each pick our 2 favourite songs out of all the 1st round noms, (so they all get heard) and the 8 with the highest votes go into the draw rounds.
That way more people could join in, and it would not matter if it was an odd or even number of players...
so for example
11 people nominate for 60's all songs then get heard on their own merit and not in competition with another song
top 8 voted songs go through

Yes can understand it could become a bit of a chore if you have little spare time to listen. Working with machines yesterday so no chance of listening, same today, managed to get one of the albums in last night.
