Nuno thinks international football 'should stop' during pandemic

Post by 1964white »

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is hoping his Portuguese players have returned from international duty coronavirus free.

Goalkeeper Rui Patricio, full-back Nelson Semedo, midfielders Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho and forward Daniel Podence have all been away with Portugal, for whom Cristiano Ronaldo this week tested positive for Covid-19.

The Portuguese Football Federation said in a statement on Tuesday that Ronaldo was "doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation" and added that no further positive tests had been reported in the squad.

"We've been tested. We have a new system of testing now that allows us not to make any mistakes when coming back from international games. Let's wait to find out the results, but for now everybody is healthy," said Nuno.

"It will probably be Sunday morning that we have the final results, so you can see how it affects the decisions and how you prepare for a game. You prepare and put things in place and work on things but if a (positive) result comes back then you have to take the player out.

"If you ask me what we should do in the middle of a global pandemic, my answer would be for sure to stop. I don't think the schedule for international teams was well prepared."

It seems such a crazy decision from FIFA to continue with this competition in these surreal times

Such a disgrace in my book that international teams are flying all over the place during the pandemic, especially in a Micky Mouse competition that nobody seems to care about :x

What would Fifa and Uefa do if there were no international football to organise for 2 years?

Agreed. We've all been discouraged from international travel. This is totally frivolous

Too much money invested across the board, pal. Money is what matters, not sanity and certainly not football.

Yeah but what age were they ?were they over weight with underlying health issues?
It seems a common denominator ?
Also this time of year communal flu is rife in care homes
Every life matters of course but 307 out of 60 million is par for the course

My gran lived in bermondsey in ww2
Night after night the germans bombed the place
Covid is bad no doubt about that but your chances of dying from it are nearly Zero
Unless you have underlying health issues then dint go out

45,000 lost their lives to Covid in the UK, the NHS under serious pressure. Liverpool hospital have 330 covid patients alone apart from hundreds being treated for other related illnesses.

Surely loss of lives can't be treated as disposable objects no matter how many casualties there are!

I'm not trying to cheaping this moggs
But every year the NHS is over run with a flu outbreak....generally we have to get on with our lives
And not fret about catching covid it's not going away any time soon me personally dont know anyone who's had it
I cremated my dad 2 weeks ago vascular dementia / pneumonia wor lass cremated her mam with communal pneumonia last year in a care home
One good thing its doesn't seem to be killing younguns
I'm not in denial but it is what it is I think the government know where the problems lay
