But goal difference could see us 4th instead of 5th :-D
I was hoping to win it Swannie, but it seems like Bielsa has other ideas

Boo Radley wrote: ↑Sat Aug 14, 2021 3:10 pm It was a carbon copy of last year. Then, Philips was dragged out of position, today they did it to Koch. Then they had Fred, James, McTominay and Greenwood to gallop past us and in behind us.

The be caught once with those tactics was disappointing, to be caught twice is ridiculous.

Had time to calm down, twas a shitter but we go again next week. Not lost faith in this lot yet, well most of them anyway. Look at Arsenal and villa getting spanked by promoted sides. At least we lost to a billion £ team who for once were playing to their ability.

Oh dear, Deja vu all over again.

Have to lament Phillips not playing when Mags and Shaw were playing. Could it have been tactical? After all Bielsa blamed him for the first half debacle at Old Trafford last season. I find it hard to believe we we wouldn't be better with Koch at the back.

Oh well. We march on.

No idea mate.

I havent worked it out but someone said on twitter that in terms of actual investment into the club since Radz arrived its about £50mil not including purchase so just capital invested into the business and most of that is the 49ers investments.

Sounds a lot but to put into context the Brighton owner invested £32mil last season alone.

Radz had to publicly call out the 49ers last summer dont forget before they would invest anymore, they only invest for an extra % they dont put anything else in.

As for why Radz choose them? Desperate perhaps? He didnt have the capital and needed help perhaps? No idea but i would love them gone.

The other thing is the 49ers money probably isnt even their money, not the York family. Its using investors like Lowy and the Youtube guy so yeah.

I am very much against them.

It's difficult to excuse a performance like that one mate, I thought it would be much closer this time even though the team selection was poor. We defended like a championship club :(

I was getting slightly miffed with the BT commentators spouting off about Bielsa only having a Plan A, and then he pulls a master stroke and introduces Plan B: he brings on Costa and Roberts - both match winners in their own right, but it was too late, scum had already won the match and didn’t need the help of these two.

It just illustrates the gulf between us and the really big clubs, a couple of players apart we can’t compete with the quality and depth the top clubs have. The best we can hope for is a bigger desire to win, and I’m sorry to say I didn’t see that in the last 30. But that will change, we can’t play that weakly too often.

Team selection was of the Hock, Evans, Heckingbottom standard :x

But the players deserve to apologize to us as much as Bielsa.

We should always aim high and not shrug off bollocks like that with the usual their players are more expensive, blah, blah, crap :poo:

Why didn’t KP play at all today? I mean this was our first game of season and against the biggest rivals and you know how dangerous Bruno can be.

I know KP played all matches in Euros but since he was on the bench he wasn’t injured.

Jorginho played more matches than him in Euros no? Heck Richarlison just played Olympic final in Tokyo last week and today he scored against Soton.

If KP wasn't fit to play, he shouldn't be on the bench. Bear in mind he pocketed Fernandes at ER last season and from what I saw of Fernandes last season if he's well marked and kicked a bit he disappears from the match - not exactly rocket science

Would OGS leave KP on the bench to shoehorn Koch into DCM? You bet he wouldn't :)

We're the fittest team in the world apparently and Manu will be unable to stand on their feet next week, not.

Onto the next one, losses happen but losing by that margin and to this opposition stings.
We need to keep Koch as a CB option and hopefully that was the last time he’s played as a holding mid. Maybe Bielsa could’ve swapped Struijk and Koch roles at half time or something. Anyhow, am sure Bielsa would’ve learned a lot and maybe even warmed up to bringing a Lang type option.

Sometimes you just have to accept there is a gulf in class with the top 4. We have a number of players that struggle if they are closed down quickly and given no time on the ball. The scum were on us constantly and we really struggled to string any meaningful passes together for large parts.
Pogba and Fernandez are just different gravy when they are on their game.
I am not convinced it would have been much different with the inclusion of CP. Llorente is the biggest loss as he can drive out of defence with the ball.

I do struggle to understand why Meslier constantly pings balls to the flanks. They just lapped those up 90% of the time. I have no doubt he is instructed to do so but it is frustrating to watch when they constantly come to nothing. Having said that he was not inundated with viable alternatives as we gave the ball away cheaply on a regular basis.

Reality is that the risk and reward style of play is often exploited more harshly by the top sides, but on balance we are not often outplayed to this extent.

I agree that Rodrigo is not a midfielder and should be playing 9 in these games. PB has his strengths but he lacks pace and guile against teams of this quality and you need that on the counter.

Soundly beaten by a much better team. As painful as it is we are still quite a few players short to dream of anything better than 6th ….. at an optimistic push.

Unfortunately watched the game at a friends who is a man united supporter.

Embarrassing and this season is going to be a long one.

Sorry but bielsa got today completely wrong by not starting KP and moving Dallas to left back. Blame is with him. Koch is not a cdm in any league
