Re: Album Winners

Post by Mountain »

All the Kate Bush nominations, plus 7 others, I guess the Stranglers being the only edgy/alternative one, but they were just so good at every genre.

Kate Bush 'The Kick Inside
Kate Bush 'Hounds Of Love'
Joy Division 'Closer'
Supertramp 'Crime Of The Century'
Radiohead 'OK Computer'
David Bowie 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'
Pink Floyd 'Dark Side Of The Moon'
Beach Boys 'Pet Sounds'
Kate Bush 'The Sensual World'
Stranglers 'Rattus Norvegicus'

faaip wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 11:51 am That was fairly easy... Cut an copy the list, delete any artists I don't like and albums I don't rate at all. (Stones, Morrisey etc,) take out albums that are clearly, imo, not the bands best, (i.e Dark Side, Portihead's Third etc)... that left me with 15 then a gut shot placement 1-15 and delete the bottom 5.

Only three from the seventies
But you missed an absolute classic....Pet Sounds

Great album would have been in a top 15 plus Surfs Up is better

Am I? That's a good thing. Pet Sounds has a couple of fillers I skip as just boring

Pink Floyd - WYWH
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Blueneck - Fallen Host
Neil Young - After The Goldrush
Portishead - Dummy
Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing
Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love
Beck - Sea Change
Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks

Stranglers and Sonic Youth just miss out.
Love the Placebo, have since release but just recently Meds has taken over as my favourite I think. The first 5 are all cracking albums though

The Dreaming would have made top 3 had it won it's poll, Lionheart top 5.

10pts - Clash 'London Calling'
9pts - David Bowie 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'
8pts - Sex Pistols 'Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols'
7pts - Pink Floyd 'Wish You Were Here'
6pts - Arctic Monkeys 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'
5pts - Led Zeppelin 'II'
4pts - U2 'The Joshua Tree’
3pts - Pink Floyd 'Dark Side Of The Moon'
2pts - Linkin Park 'Hybrid Theory'
1pt - Sigur Ros '()'

Easier to do the top 5 than 6-10. Just falling into 11th and 12th The Bends and Nevermind

1 from 60's; 5 from 70's, 1 from 80's; 3 from 00's. Nothing past 2006 and the AM's

This is stressing me out.
I can pick ten but in no particular order, I don’t know if I can list them as a preference.
For example, I prefer more songs on The Bends as an average but like some of OK Computer more.
Revolver is a more solid album than Sgt Pepper but some of the songs on Pepper are superior (pity Abbey Road didn’t win, I’d have chosen that)
This applies to the two Kate Bush albums; also I like the songs on Sufer Rosa but hate the production which marks it down for me.
Aargh!

So tough to choose. On another day my top 10 could be completely different, there are so many great albums to choose from. Only constant being that London Calling would pretty much always be my number 1.

The most difficult poll we held on here imo!

Only two albums I don't own on that list.

Never Mind the Bollocks and Surfer Rosa are the only two game changer albums I've heard in my lifetime. Surfer Rosa being the superior effort. I'm a little young for the mid sixties into psychedelia game changers

U2's last great album imo, however it didn't win our 1991 poll, went close I seem to remember. Nirvana's Nevermind won that poll.
