Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 14th December) Fans anger over ticket sell-out

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 14th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Fans anger over ticket sell-out

Hundreds of bitterly disappointed Leeds fans took to social media yesterday to vent their anger having missed out on tickets to see Burnley (hopefully) get trounced at Elland Road on January 2nd. Since returning to the top flight, membership has grown tenfold, meaning the likelihood of being one of the lucky ones to be slim at best.

Many reported waiting times of over an hour even though they had joined the queue before the fight for tickets had started. To make matters worse, dozens of seats appeared on tout sites yesterday afternoon for that very match, including VIP Hospitality tickets!

Many Elland Road regulars have vowed not to renew their membership after continually missing out week after week! Should the loyal Leeds fans who supported their club through the dark and gloomy periods of the Championship / League One have a preferential right to tickets, or should it be first come - first served?

Is 55,000 capacity enough?

As we know, plans are underway to extend the capacity of Elland Road to circa 50,000 - 55,000, an increase of between 12,000 - 17,000 seats; but with a waiting list of 20,000 and growing, is it enough. Leeds are a one City club, and arguably the largest in Yorkshire. They have the potential to rival the red side of Manchester (74,140) if top flight success continuous on an upward curve!

Is a 55,000 capacity enough? Should Leeds have ambitions to build a state of the art Stadium from cratch, instead of tinkering with Elland Road?

Hay lays in Leeds bully boys

Leeds journalist Phil Hay has laid into Leeds fans following the online abuse of midfielder Mateusz Klich, and also took a swipe at a minority of fans who taunted Conor Gallagher during his recent encounter during Crystal Palace's visit to Elland Road. He describes the Polish International's 92 game streak as the 'shift from Hell', and suggests the Polish International may not have fully recovered from it.

This is where you traditionally jump in and say it was a minority that was abusing Klich, an unrepresentative corner of the Leeds United fanbase who cannot avoid acting like children. Which is true. But it is always a minority because as with the homophobic chanting towards Conor Gallagher at Elland Road, if everyone was doing it then a club would be in an existential crisis. The numbers are irrelevant when someone like Klich is compelled to make himself scarce online. It has happened with Tyler Roberts too and it does not take much searching on Twitter to understand why they backed away.

Klich can probably live with being called a c***. He can probably live with some of the other slurs too, pitying the ignorance. But why be present in a world of conversation where criticism is so thick and irrational? Klich was always a good sport on Twitter, a joker with no PR grease in sight, and he has been an incredibly easy player to relate to at Leeds.

Ninety-two league games back-to-back — from the start of Bielsa’s Championship odyssey to the very end of it — was the shift from hell. Perhaps he is paying for it with some of his form since. He was the scorer of that first goal against Stoke City, the hungover face on the morning after promotion, the man who spray-painted “Champions” on a wall by Elland Road’s East Stand. Is this not a lasting friendship, safe against mistakes or falling influence?

Morning EB et all

We need to extend the capacity to at least 60,000 just to cover the waiting list as it stands now let alone if it grows any more

How can any real Leeds fan have a go at Klich, yes his form has dipped in the last few games so he needs a break but with our small squad and all the injuries I can't see that happening anytime soon. Outside of this dip in form he's been along with Dallas our Mr reliable, get behind our players, encourage them, don't crucify them

Capacity ought to be around 60,000, but, we have a tendancy to be very fickle, under the great sides of Don, we only hit 50,000, then again, other top teams weren't that much higher, Leeds was predominantly a rugby city, although those days are long gone and the shift in sands are firmly at football.
With the clamour to see top flight football, and half-decent football at that, at the moment , we hit the spot for a much higher capacity, the secret is to build on our recent successes and not go backwards, hence squad strengthening and dare I say it, knowing which manager is going to take us forward, after consolidation in the top flight the growing fan base will demand a bigger capacity.
I think you'll all notice how much our fans stand behind the team, Klich will not get dogs abuse by the true fans who understand his role in the last few years, the chants will ring out loud and proud at the Etihad for him, he really shouldn't let keyboard warriors get to him, look at other clubs, they've all had it, grow up and do what your'e paid to do, score against city tonight Mateusz .

Between the hassle of trying to get reasonably priced flights first and then slim to no chance of getting a match ticket. At my age, resigned to prospect of ever attending a live match again while were in that disgusting pl

I feel for the supporters abroad like yourself and carrick dave and all the others whom regularly book flights / hotels only to have the carpet ripped away when the fixture changes, never mind busting a bollock to get a ticket in the first place.
The amount of fans whom aren't Yorkshire based often struggle with kick-off times, never mind the fantastic fans from Belfast, Ireland, Scandanavia etc, then there are those from much further like the USA, infact glaobally.

The future optimum capacity of Elland Road will be a difficult thing to get right. As of now, of course, we could probably fill a 65000 seater stadium and everyone who wants a ticket will be able to get one. But a little bit further down the line, if/when the upward trajectory of the team which has taken place over the last 4 years starts to flatten out or go into reverse, which it may have started to do already, then the current demand will inevitably drop off. And if we drop down a league, heaven forbid but could easily happen, then the team will end up playing in a less than half empty and completely soulless stadium.

As has been said, the answer is to increase the capacity whilst also improving the quality of the team and that will take commitment and a whole heap of money.

The trajectory we could have is huge given that Leeds is a big city with one club. But as noted, would very much depend on how we take the club forward from here. Sustained investment in the playing side of the club is just as important as improving the facilities. Would expect to see an overhaul in the summer, we have the bones of a very good side with some talented youngsters coming through but need to supplement that with some real quality.

The Mateusz Klich situation makes me very sad :(

He gave literally everything he had for the cause, look at him now, he is totally drained because of what he gave to LUFC.

Yes it was a clumsy challenge, yes it cost us a point, yes you can say "stupid challenge Klich" on social media if you feel the need.

But why link him in and call him nasty names or use nasty words ?

We all have players we dont rate, we all probably could do with being a bit less emotional at times.

But i am sure nobody on this forum would even consider logging on to twitter and linking Klich in and saying "get the **** out of our team you *******useless ****.

Or Roberts for that matter or Harrison or any player who has a bad day or a series of bad days.

I dont understand why people feel the need :(

As Phil says Klich has always been a really good sport on twitter, bantering with fans and stuff, it isnt even like anyone tweeting him knows its his social media team that will read it, everyone knows Klich runs his own account.

Its shame.
Signed

Remember the days when clubs banned players from being on Social Media... perhaps it was for their own safety

We seem to have a lot of angry fans ... are these the same fans angry with Klich/Roberts/Rodrigo/their wives/their kids/their bosses/the blokes that didn't let them out at various junctions/the tv/the blokes that looked at them funny in various streets.

We all knew that once back in the prem we'd get a load of plastic fans, one of the reasons I loved being in the Championship. No glory hunters/bandwagoners there

Ooh look dear, Leeds United are back in the top division, remember I used to like them once about 20 years ago when whattisname was manager.... Pilkington I think.. I think I can support them again.. I used to love Gerald Strachan
...Welsh he was

Don't forget that Klich has twice tested positive for covid which can hardly have helped his recovery. I have a lot of sympathy and gratitude for him. He was the engine that drove both promotion bids and anyone slagging him now deserves a firm kick in the arse.

Imagine if we had prima-donnas like Pogba and his ilk, spend half the season sulking?
With our high octane, hard running playing style, any dip fitness is going hinder our players.
