Whether you choose to admire his statue with national pride, or vandalise it with contempt, these are both emotive reactions based on prejudgement, not history.
Sorry Sara, that was just an observation not a comment on your post.

Would the removal of indigenous Totem poles be classified as an act of cultural genocide. How about collecting the tribal masks of indigenous African tribes that cease to be, after being discovered and converted to christendom. How about the removal of statues created by British ancestors gone and soon to be forgotten?

BLM are a burning, looting mob that begin with street demonstrations against the police state and the brutality shown by a minority of it's officers, whose spokespeople then play the race card whilst claiming they can't be racist themselves and it's a white problem.

This flash mob couldn't exist without the media manipulating the emotions of the vulnerable, which causes violence through fear. People need a connection to the past, to their ancestors and Totem poles, tribal masks, Maori carvings and British statues shouldn't be removed by violent flash mobs acting without reason nor dialogue.
If you don't know where you are going, every road will get you nowhere.

We are forced to live in a society without a sense of humour

Have you heard about the Englishman, Scotsman & the Irishman?

On second thoughts better not!

How sad that this is how some people react to attempts to overcome the deeply ingrained prejudices in our society. It really doesn't help the cause of progress to take that attitude.

Eric Morcombe was a very funny man, I met him once.
I'm not at all prejudice Sara, one thing I am is a traditionalist & don't believe British history or humour should be dismantled by the pc brigade

A jury decided there was no crime.

Let's not attack the importance of trial by jury, in democracies they are far more important than stone effigies to racists.

Surely the authorities should have dismantled the statues.

Maybe British history should be abolished in schools.

For example, Henry VIII killed two of his wives, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard.

Can't say I can agree with their actions, the statue involved here should have been removed long ago, plenty of Bristol residents wanted it removed anyway . People should have been made aware of his , others and the cities involvement in the slave trade with some sort of plaque or information panel being erected and some type of memorial to the victims of the slave trade . We can't escape the history and we shouldn't forget it either

When I was in my teens , I went to Germany a few times .....school exchanges . The Germans were nothing like I imagined back then . Bear in mind this was very late 70's so a lot of families would still have knowledge or experience of ww2 .......both us and Germans .We went on trips with them in Germany , one to Alsace region in France and a few of us talking to Germans the subject of ww2 cropped up .....now this generation of 15-18 year old Germans knew little of it , it wasn't talked or studied in schools , hence how do you learn from history ? Mind when they were over here once , we being Brits were so sensitive back then that one school trip was to Coventry.....to show them the new cathedral that replaced the one bombed in ww2 . We definitely got the better deal though overall ........we went to beautiful southern Germany , the black forest ......they came to us in an urban derelict slum called Birmingham( where I am from originally) in late 70's when it really was a dump .
These days........I really am pissed off with this woke shite flying around ......I am all for equality etc , but a few minority types trying to dictate to one and all .....it really gets my temper going......our work place has gone woke , the work force were asked to do an inclusivity survey recently following in from some compulsory course last year ( a video link talk ) ......33% took part ,mainly office staff as opposed to our warehouse staff . It shows the majority don't want to know .......I think at some stage an anti woke backlash will occur .

I agree.

It was British jury deciding by a majority of 11 to 1. The 1 should be told to clear off with his or her desire to criminalise British people for what people here agree was doing something the authorities should have done.

History will change, as is the case with religion beliefs.

The UK will become a Muslim country long after we've gone, maybe thirty years time.

The world is evolving.

My dad passed away 5 years ago and right up until the last few months, he was a regular church goer. He used to give regular talks at the service about current affairs, political issues etc as well as religious ones and he basically said the same thing 64.
He stated that 100 years from now, most churches will have been replaced by mosques and we will indeed be a predominantly muslim country.
This didn't go down well with the congregation apparently but he was just stating his opinion.

Lot's of statues around the world get torn down when there are regime or societal changes.
I think this gets right to the nub of the issue.

Not realised by many and against the wishes of the vast majority of people but enabled and driven by the establishment elite, we are currently living through a regime change in this country and in fact the western world in general.

“The long March” has been going on since the end of World War 2 and, slowly but surely, has gathering pace ever since so that now the Government, both Houses of Parliament, the Civil Service, the Police, the education system, the Judiciary, main stream media, in fact every national institution has been infiltrated and now finally taken over by this new ideology.

Welcome to the new world order folks - welcome to 1984!
