Who’s defending it?
If you read the second paragraph again.

All I’m saying is it’s not a legal requirement for a club to sign anyone in January even if we as fans would like them to.

More u23s. You couldn't make it up!
SG90 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 11:53 am It gets better, Graham now saying we're not interested in Calvin Ramsay. Why? We're missing out on a very talented RB, which is a position we definitely need to strengthen in the summer anyway.
Make your mind up. You have a go at the club for trying to sign U23 players then an hour later you're having a go at the club for supposedly now not trying to sign an U23 player.

Almost feels like you are just looking for any excuse to have a pop at the club......

We as fans would always welcome new players, every fan of every club does.
Even the Aaronson thing might only be paper talk, the club haven’t confirmed the offer or denied it.
Not defending them but they did say they were only after a player if the stars aligned so to speak.

No legal requirement of course and tbf the club have been very open.

But I think the naivety and even arrogance of the club is concerning.

Kinnear showed us that when he talked about Two years of transfers in one which effectively admits a season of at best standing still.

Are the club afraid to admit they were wrong and got it wrong in the summer?

After all Kinnear I think was the one thay also said that if you have to buy in January then you get the Summer wrong?

But Ramsay is a first team player not an u23. Why would be leave Aberdeen for our u23s when Bologna and others are interested?

Just because someone is under the age of 23, it doesn't mean they have to play for the u23s.

This Maxwell is 20 years old and has never played for Rangers. So what would be the point of signing him?

CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 12:21 pm There is a major assumption in all this that if Bamford comes back, he will immediately start banging in the goals. People forget that he has had phases in the past of not scoring for 10 to 12 games. And that's assuming he does come back this season - he has had two seasons now at the club decimated through injury.
True another assumption to.

It's a lot of pressure on a man who has a history of going through massive dry spells and of missing chart leading amounts lf chances.

With all due respect to Paddy we are talking about a man who in the most attacking side in the league for 2 years at Championship level and top 6 at Premier league level he still couldn't manage 20 goals.

The problem is not signing in January means an even bigger job is needed in the summer, and we all know that won't happen. The excuses last summer from the board was that we still had January to do business, yet surprise surprise they've done nothing.

Funny how other clubs manage to find January signings though. It's almost as if the person behind the recruitment is to blame...

SG90 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 12:31 pm The problem is Bielsa. I know most on here won't agree, but I don't care.

Bielsa overrates the players we have. He thinks there's no better players out there than Ayling, Cooper, Dallas, Forshaw, Klich, Roberts, Harrison, James, Rodrigo, which is why we never try and replace them, and we're stuck with them until he leaves.

Bielsa turns down players who will improve us.

Bielsa refuses to see how paper thin the squad is, and will only agree to signings if someone leaves.

Bielsa keeps overtraining them, despite their bodies struggling to cope, hence the poor form and constant injuries.

Bielsa names the same team every week, so the opposition know exactly who is playing and how we will set up.

And to top that off, we have a board who are afraid of saying no and happy to dine off winning the Championship forever, until they take us back there.

Some fans are happy to lap that up, but they will be the same ones booing Raph, Kalvin, Meslier etc and calling them "greedy" for having more ambition than us.
I have great respect for Bielsa and appreciation for him bringing us back to the Premier league.

He has worked miracles with what he has and deserves immense credit for that.

However when Bielsa leaves I suspect a slow trickle of information to leak about his time here and for fans perception of him to be worsened somewhat.

This is something that Phil Hay has alluded to on a number of occasions and the SquareBall lads to.

A very very difficult and stubborn man behind the scenes I suspect and maybe we are finally seeing the downside of giving him full control?

Everything comes to a natural end and maybe this is Bielsa's and his Championship squad?

In the summer, we will need:
GK
RB
LB
8
10
DM
Striker

Replacement for Kalvin/Raph (whoever we sell for big money).

That's just too much to do in one summer.

The biggest mistake you can make in the transfer market, is to overspend on players not good enough for top 6. Everton did and failed, Villa are doing it now, we did on Dan James. To think there out no players in world football who could improve us on a fraction of the price is incredibly dumb and short-sighted.

Remember when Radz went on his rant about Wolves and said he had loads of contacts? Well where are they then?

I understood giving him full control in the Championship, as he was too good for that league. But to do it in the PL too is lunacy.

Hjelde was playing first team football in Scotland, Summerville too in Holland. Gelhardt was playing first team football in the championship. Messlier playing first team football in the French 2nd division. They come to go into the U23s and be available if needed - not straight into the first team.

Hjelde was playing the Scottish lower leagues, not SPL. That's a similar level to u23s if not worse.
Gelhardt had a few sub appearances here or there, Wigan fans used to complain he wasn't getting enough game time. But he is well above u23s level now.
Meslier had played about 7 games in France and was unhappy at not getting a chance here.
I agree about Summerville. We have wrecked his development dumping him in the u23s and no wonder he is unhappy.

Ramsay won't join us to play u23s, especially when he sees how well Aaron Hickey has done at Bologna.

Whilst confident we will keep our few assets this January i do worry about the summer.

Why would KP and Raph commit to a club with no ambition?

People can say we are only in our 2nd seasom but you can still try.

Wolves did Villa are, we actively just want to not be relegated and our owner is quite happy to tout our players in the media, its proper weird behaviour.

That isnt a message that keeps better players.

FACTCHECKER ALERT

Hjelde played 11 matches for Ross County in the Scottish Premier League last season.

Messlier played 17 matches for Llorient's reserve side between 2017-2019. He then played 28 matches for the Llorient first team in France's Ligue 2 (their equivalent of the championship). Moving to us in the championship he knew he was signing as back up to Kiko Casillas and to provide competition for him.

Gelhardt made 19 appearances for Wigan's first team in the championship.

Ramsey, would likely be viewed as coming here to provide competition for Ayling and presumably seen as stronger back up then Drameh was.

Yes that was my point, but Bielsa is as much to blame for so picky. I can't understand how a man who dropped £25m on Roadrunner could be so demanding at CM. :duno:
