Match Thread Leeds Utd v Aston Villa Match Thread - Live on Amazon Prime

Post by Ellandback1 »

Thursday 10th March 7:45pm | Elland Road

Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa are the visitors to Elland Road on Thursday evening as the Whites go in search of their first points in six games. Ironically, the last point Leeds achieved was at Villa Park four weeks ago, when Llorente and a Dan James double gave the Whites a well deserved share of the spoils.

Following the six goal thriller, Villa lost at St James Park, and were also defeated at home against lowly Watford. They then beat Brighton comfortably on the South Coast, before cruising to a 4-0 victory over Southampton last weekend. They seem to be hitting form at the wrong time, but how many occasions have we seen that, this season?

Everton were smashed 5-0 by Spurs last night, but still have two games in hand over the Whites, and are a point behind. A win for Watford on Thursday night would see the Hornets move to within a point of Leeds if they can overcome Wolves and Leeds lose to Villa. Burnley travel to Brentford on Saturday lunchime. They are currently two points behind Leeds with a game in hand.

Leeds will be without the services of Tyler Roberts for the remainder of the season. The 23 year old underwent surgery on the hamstring injury he picked up last weekend at the King Power Stadium. Patrick Bamford is likely to get some game time, but not expected to start. There's also good news for Kalvin Phillips. The England midfielder is also hoping for a place on the bench following his four-month lay off with a hamstring injury.

Jesse Marsch is likely to recall Adam Forshaw to the starting line up. The 30 year old picked up a knock in training last week, and was dropped to the bench. We await news on whether Diego Llorente has overcome the knock he picked up a fortnight ago.

Absolutely massive game. Lose this one and I feel we are in deep trouble.
I've been saying all season we won't go down but lose this and its becoming more likely.
I think the tension will be palpable in the crowd.

Imperative not to lose, important to win, would be great to score first.

Score first and stop Courtinio .

We’ve thrown away a lot of points from winning positions but after the Leicester game I’m more confident we can protect a lead.

Jesse has said he likes to rotate.

I wonder if he will for Villa?

Gelhardt and Forshaw maybe?

Agree with other posts on here.. the next 2 games are massive in our survival fight.
Need to win them both in my view.
After watching the team on Saturday I think it's a possibility now..🤔

Llorente and Forshaw are available
Bamford won't start but will play a part
Cooper is nearly ready and will be assessed on Friday
Phillips is slightly behind Cooper in his recovery but should be ready after the international break.
Hjelde has had surgery and should be back in weeks rather than months

I am not so confident about this game, and feel like a point will make me happy, as long as we get all 3 points on Sunday. The game I'm eyeing up is Wolves, where I can somehow see us picking up 3 points. We've been terribly unlucky against them in our 3 PL games since coming up and don't feel they're particularly a great team> With a tighter defence to not concede, we can certainly score against them.

Back to tomorrow versus Aston Villa, if we can stop Coutinho, we should get something out of it. Given the info Chilli D posted above, I'd play a double pivot:

Meslier
Ayling
Llorente
Struijk
Firpo
Koch
Forshaw
Raphinha
Rodrigo
James or Harrison (but James due to Mings being shoite).
Gelhardt

Subs on if chasing:
Bamford
Harrison
Summerville

Subs if shutting up shop:
Bamford
Cresswell
Cooper (if fit)

Makes me think he's being rushed back, hope it don't backfire, could only play 10 mins at Leicester and will play a part tomorrow :duno:
What if we don't require him, will he still get 25mins and maybe unbalance things if he does ?

Would love to see PB get the winner and celebrate with a slide along the pitch, what could be better ?

There was talk that Kalvin would be on the bench for Villa, now it's after the international break.

As long as he doesn't repeat that celebration he did after scoring against Brentford and put himself out for the rest of the season :duno: :shhh:

Don't care if it's a flukey own goal off mings' hairy arse, any winner will be great for us
