Match Thread Watford 0-3 Leeds Utd Match Thread - POST MATCH DEBATE!

Post by Ellandback1 »

Saturday 9th April 15:00 | Vicarage Road

Leeds travel down to Hertfordshire on Saturday knowing a win would go a long way to securing Premier League safety, but only if they can overcome Roy Hodgson's Waford. Burnley's late winner over Everton on Wednesday night moves them to within six points of Leeds, with two games in hand. The Hornets are not out of it either. If they win on Saturday they will go level with Everton on 25 points. With seven points from their last three games, Leeds Manager Jesse Marsch has not tinkered too much with the starting line-up.

Liam Cooper completed ninety minutes against Southampton last weekend unscaved, and will partner Diego Llorente at centre back yet again, with Ayling and Dallas acting as wing backs. The big question was whether Kalvin Phillips would be fit to start, the answer not quite yet. The England star chalked up 25 minutes of game time against Southampton, and looks set for a bigger role at Watford but will start on the bench. Robin Koch will come into the midfield alongside Mateusz Klich in place of Adam Forshaw.

Gelhardt was not expected to make the trip down to Watford having sustained a dead leg during the U23's 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Monday evening, but he will make the bench too. Dan James will lead the line; a role he has endured more than he has enjoyed this season. Rodrigo will play just behind James. If he can replicate the form he has shown in the last two or three games, he will cause the Watford defence all kind of problems. Jack Harrison retains his place on the left-wing having scored in his two previous matches and Raphinha on the right.

Watford manager Roy Hodgson is able to pick from a fully fit squad for the visit of Leeds, as such the Hornets are unchanged from last time out in the Premier League when they lost two nil to Liverpool. Joao Pedro keeps his place up front, with Emmanuel Dennis on the bench. Watford have lost their past eight home Premier League matches, with Wolves the last side to have a longer home losing streak, losing nine in a row between January and April 2012. The Hornets have only lost nine consecutive home league games once before, between December 1971 and March 1972. Leeds are looking to complete their first league double over Watford since the 1999-00 season, which was also the last campaign the sides met in the Premier League.

Win would be great of course but even a draw is sufficient as it keeps them behind us

After last night's result, we really need 3 points.

Only reason we won't get all 3 points is through piss poor finishing again.

We need 3 points and other results to go our way .I'd feel more relaxed if the table wasn't so disjointed.

Dreading this.

I'm not going to this match, so i need to find something to do on saturday afternoon.

Switch my phone off. Switch the radio off. Switch the tv off.

Just try to forget that the match is taking place.

It'll be nothing compared to needing a point or a win at Brentford last game.

A major concern & a strong reason why we haven't won so many games.

Indeed it is, this is why JM should realise that DJ isn't the answer, if he has to , put Rodrigo there, but not DJ, leave DJ on t' wing to provide, he ain't a natural finisher, I would love to see JG ad CF but it looks like the club will continue to bad manage him, although JM did say last week he would be using him more, lets see eh.
Now Iv'e said that, I fully expect DJ to start up front and get a hat-trick

This is the game where Raphinha scores the winner and we all remenise for the next 20 years how that goal kept us in the PL.

Watford have always had pace going back over the years but can they match our pace in defence this time.... What do you mean. Anyway it doesn't matter cos Phillips won't let them thru.

At home; W2 D1 L11. F14 A34. Surely we can at least avoid defeat.

The points are absolutely needed, but I'm confident that we can do it.

The thought of it coming down to that is unbearable.
I'd need to be sedated.

Worth noting that a kind poster or two often come up with a decent stream allowing remote fans to watch the game live on a Saturday...

I can't watch Leeds on TV, mate.

I find it way too stressful.

If I'm not at a match in person, i do everything in my power to avoid any mention of football for 90 minutes.

TV gets switched off, as does my phone and radio etc

I'm a bag of nerves on matchdays when I'm at a game, but I'm waaaaay worse when I'm not going to the match.
