Yes, Jackson did an unexpected great job for Burnley, I never envisaged they would achieve & so many points in April, tailed away in their final four games when injuries & possibly fatigue kicked in.

It kinda is, I'm a purist, always will be. The game always more than the result to me....I'm the same with cricket. I don't like Marsch's kill the game tactics, his evangelical motivational speeches, his cliched hero's.

Pretty upset about anyone who takes the piss out of that trio. Especially the Spice Girls.

“The game more than the result” now that’s evangelical claptrap if ever I heard it.

Re: Jesse Marsch
So would you have preferred be relegated playing the Bielsa way?
Honest answer.
Because surely if the game matters more than the result to you the answer is yes?
I know you say he wouldn't have took us down but nobody knows that for certain.
So if it was saved by Marsch playing his way or relegated by Bielsa what would you choose?
No judgement either way, just curious.
Because I suspect your game over results philosophy is the same as Bielsa.

Re: Jesse Marsch
I agree but whilst it is not a strict comparison it is the closest there is - given it involved the same manager and largely the same group of players. We struggled against far worse teams in the championship than we struggled against in the premier league so it could be argued that what happened in the championship was even worse. Same thing was levelled at the side that managers had sussed Bielsa out, we needed more players, players out of position, players tired, too many injuries etc. As such the similarities were strikingly similar and then we won 5 on the bounce. The last few matches of our first season back in the premier league also showed that (for the second season running) we could end the season strongly. Most of that season we had a revolving door of injuries but once we got a settled defence we went on a great run, not conceding many goals too despite playing City, Man U, Liverpool etc during that time.March712 wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 12:08 pm With respect though and having regard to the relative strength of the squads in each case (injuries aside), our bad run in the Championship compared with what was happening in the Premier League this season bears little comparison; Leeds United was struggling on several fronts, for a variety of reasons.
That was why I would base my opinion that whilst, yes, we could have ended the season in complete freefall it was by no means a foregone conclusion and there was enough supporting evidence to suggest that it was not the foregone conclusion that it was in some people's opinions.

I see you haven't changed you simply don't read a post, quote it for some bizarre reason, and then go off on your own tangent to try to start some ridiculoss debate that is irrelevant to the questions asked. WHy not try giving your thoughts on the question I asked?mentalcase wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 11:56 am I'm totally done with silly pointless debates about a manager who was SACKED because he was inept at his job, if you, and others want to debate it, hoping, forlornly, lovingly, that one day he'll be back, posting cringeworthy stats, crack on, I'm 100% behind the new regime.
It would be really nice if a thread / post didn't get hijacked by the bielsa bunnies though, just saying.

Too early to judge. The board and Eddie have now made it clear Bielsa didn't want anymore players. Marsch will not turn any players down i am sure, despite possibly losing two of our best players. No more pointing the finger at Bielsa now its done. Next season we will really see where we are and we can judge Marsch and the board properly.

Re: Jesse Marsch
It’s interesting that Bielsa fanatics can see into the future and know something with such unwavering certainty. That’s a great skill. It’s like saying I’m certain god exists or I know what happens when you die. I’m going to become one so I can back the winner of the Derby for once. And if it doesn’t win I’ll blame Marsch and say if Bielsa had trained it it would of hacked up.

After all, it will only bounce back to a massive debate about bielsa / marsch, which I have quite clearly staed above, hope that clears things up, crack on with your pointless love in,

As such I would like to invite people like 64, Chapel, mental and others to instead give their views regarding Marsch on the 3 topics below - please stick to these topics rather than going off on tangents so we can have proper debate.
1 ) Did changing the style mid-season to one not suited to the players help or hinder them?
2) Can Marsch's favoured tactics (based on what we expect his tactics to be rather than what we have seen so far as JM himself has already said he hasn't really implemented his tactics so far) be successful in the Premier League?
3) Is building the squad to suit the manager a good idea or does it make more sense to have long term planning and go down the route of only hiring managers who plays a similar way (sort of like what Barca used to do and promoted from within after giving ex players the chance to manage their U21 teams) so that the youth can be also trained to play a certain way too?
This guy makes a great point - wonder why nobody answered the questions set but instead went about their own agenda. Seriously I would rather hear the answers to the questions than simply everyone re-hashing the debate that no one can prove definitively.

I really do struggle to work out if you are intelectualy impaired or a genius at avoiding answering simple questions. Just answer the f*cking questions for once - give your opinions on those. Bielsa's not here, in case you hadn't noticed, and the questions are about evaluating Marsch, eveluating how well you think his tactics will work and evaluating whether the club have adopted the right policy and picked the right man in terms of continuation - no blame on JM but on whether the club has erred in hiring a manger who's difference in needs and playing style could render not just some first team players but some oyuth players unnecessary (after all we saw the club do this when hiring TC who was completely different to Monk, PH who was completely different to TC and then MB who was completely different to PH.mentalcase wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 2:30 pm Obviously your'e unable to fathom out the bit where I put

Still not gonna answer the questions? They aren't loaded questions so answer them and give your honest opinions, if you have no doubts over tactics great, if you think the club's recruitment policies in regards to continuity is good or bad etc

I truly hope we don't lose both Raphinha & Phillips, 1000.Leeds1000 wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 2:23 pm Too early to judge. The board and Eddie have now made it clear Bielsa didn't want anymore players. As it stands now, we need some serious recruitment, if we also have to replace those two, it makes the summer transfer business much more difficult.
How the hell do we replace Phillips & Raphinha?
Thankfully, Marsch won't be turning quality players down. I'm totally baffled why Bielsa reacted in that way

1. Help - we stayed up and won 4 games. We only won 5 games previously.weasel wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 11:42 am We seem to have resorted to people not debating but dismissing views based not on the points but because they suggest the points are made by people who liked the previous manager. 2. Yes. A full season would have us on 48 points (12th) just going off this year. And that's without any time to sign new players, improve the squad or have a pre-season.
3. Long term, but who's to say Marsch isn't a long term option? Just cause some fans are desperate for him to be fired (for committing the crime of replacing the chosen one) doesn't mean he will.
