Potential LUFC striker poll- Dan Moylan says the striker was Nketiah

Post by Cjay »

So we are apparently after an as yet unnamed Premier League striker.

The identity of whom is yet unknown.

So I've compiled a little list of potential candidates.

Eddie Nketiah- Premier league goal every 195minutes (10 in total with 2 assists), couple of Cup goals to. Played for us before of course without making a huge impact but Orta likes him and he popped up with a few goals for us. Would a cheap option as he is out of contract and still only 22 (23 soon) so time to improve. Has decent pace and movement but not really proven at any level yet and of course scoring goals in a top 6 team is different to a mid table/lower end one. Would represent a cheap cost effective but risky option.

Che Adams Premier League goal every 291 minutes (20 in total with 11 assists). Former target, nearly 26. Versatile forward known for his work rate, pace and power. Not a prolific goalscorer though with only a 1 in 3 goal rate in the Prem but able to create and link play well as his 11 assists show. Would likely cost a decent fee which for a player of his strike rate may turn out to be poor business should it not improve however his versatility and ability to create give him an edge as does his relative experience at the top level.

Takumi Minamino Premier League goal every 236 minutes (6 in total 0 assists).
27 year old versatile attacker who can play anywhere across the front line. Played under Marsch before for RB Salzburg so is familiar with his methods. Not a traditional striker though, played more as a 10 under Marsch and has not really shone whilst at Liverpool due to lack of opportunity but also at Southampton when given a chance. Would represent a risk given his record at the top level but has the advantage of knowing Marsch's methods. Known for his versatility, hard work and intelligence.

Armando Broja Premier League goal every 330 minutes (6 in total 1 assist). 20 year old Albanian striker. A combination of pace, power and hard work. A 6ft3 rookie who In his debut Premier League season for struggling Southampton managed 6 goals. A very highly rated but inexperienced player whose situation at Chslsea (who exactly would you negotiate with) and likely high price tag make him a risky and expensive target. He does however have the advantage of having played under fellow Ralf Rangnick disciple Ralph Hasenhuttl which would likely give him an advantage over some on this list in terms of adaption.
Patson Daka Premier League goal every 231 minutes (5 in total with 3 assists). 23 year old Zambian striker who found minutes limited in the League for Leicester in his debut season (only played 13 matches worth). Known for his pace, movement and finishing he was the goals in Jesse Marsch's last season at RB Salzburg with 34 goals in all competitions. He knows the style and what Marsch would ask of him but given he only joined Leicester for £23million last summer and has 4 years left on his contract he would require a significant sum to sign. He also is very inexperienced at the top level and at Premier League level.
So these are the 5 players imo who are most likely.

If it was up to me in order of preference I'd like

1) Patson Daka
2) Armando Broja
3) Che Adams
4) Takumi Minamino
5) Eddie Nketiah

I realise the top 3 are also the most expensive but for me Eddie Nketiah would represent a very unambitious signing.

Takumi Minamino isn't really a striker and is unlikely to score the goals we lack.

Che Adams is decent and will have a decent understanding of Marsch's style but he is yet to hit double figures in the Premier League and thus his finishing and goal scoring record is questionable.

Armando Broja imo is the most naturally gifted and has all the attributes needed to be a top striker. His lack of experience is clearly a risk though but his experience in a similar style to Marsch's combined with his natural gifts imo make him ideal.

Patson Daka for me though is the most ideal signing. He like Broja has natural gifts, pace, movement, work rate but also a proven goalscorer in Marsch's system (all be it at a lower level) . He would require a substantial fee but imo his experience in the Marsch system combined with his clear talent would make him ideal.

So who would everyone want?

One of these 5 or do you have another suggestion?

I'd sign Nketiah in a heartbeat.

Scored some very important goals in our promotion season. A proper fox in the box, classic poacher.

Don't have time for giving a detailed thought on each of these, but Daka would be my choice. I think he's going to be excellent and continue to develop, and has already shown what he's capable of at LC this season. Lastly, he would fit ideal into JM's system.

I think Nketiah needs a run of games to show his full potential. He got that towards the end of the season with Arsenal and now they massively regret not giving him an opportunity earlier. I cannot for the life of me understand why you have him at the bottom of your list CJAY, the kids movement and anticipation is spectacular. Watch him go next season if he first choice where ever he signs - I have a feeling it will be Brighton. Potter will turn this kid to gold.

That is not to say I wouldn’t have Daka. I just can’t see Leicester letting him go. I think we are in for Nketiah but I don’t think we will get him.

I chose other - I think Origi is still in the market even though it is suggested he is going to Milan

Erling Haaland - he's a Leeds lad after all.

Damn, suddenly realised - another club has already signed him....

I would look at Rashford, he seems to be out in the cold and lost his confidence lately. I know he plays for the enemy, but so did Giles and Strachan and they did pretty well for us.

We have a wonderful talent right under our nose in JG. I prefer him to any of the above so the one who would compliment him the most I suppose.
I declare my love for Saint Daniel and I can shoehorn him in to any conversation.

I don't think he is a bad player DDB, but overhyped for the amount of evidence of his talent.

He has less than 50 senior games to his name at 23.

He isn't long term proven even over 1 season at any senior level.

He clearly has some talent but I think he is to risky for us imo.

A few goals for an in form Arsenal side back end of the season (of which 3 of 5 were scored against 2 of the worst teams/defences us and Everton) doesn't justify the risk of making Nketiah potentially our main striker if Bamford's injury issues don't clear up.

Nketiah may sign for Brighton as you say and score 15-20 goals next season and prove me wrong.

But for us he is to risky atm.

Out of that group Patson Daka is the logical choice. In the two seasons he played for JM in Salzburg he scored 61 goals in 87 matches in all competitions. He managed 11 goals in all competitions for Leicester City last term. But I don't think they will sell.

I think it will be Minamino that could actually end up at Leeds. But he's not a striker. He's another attacking midfielder very similar in style to Aaronson. In fact, Aaronson was his replacement at Salzburg.

I say JG, use him or lose him, DCL would be a good addition, but, we won't go in for him, btw, rashford is a good shout, I mentioned this in December, he needs a fresh start, problem would be his wages though, at least the kids will eat for free though.

I chose Daka, but I think it's unlikely Leicester will let him go, and certainly not on the cheap. Would have not issue with Nketiah coming back but, as others have pointed out, whomever it is needs to compliment Joffy. He has to be one of our starting attackers next season; if he gets bit parts again, he could become unsettled and we lose him. Only a kid, I know, and a lot of what we see is potential, but he looks to have all the attributes to be something special. Bamford, if he comes back, is the one who should be looking over his shoulder.

Very surprised to see Takumi Minamino beating Broja and Che Adams I must say.

Few more names floating on social media I've seen.

Emmanuel Dennis of Watford.

Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester

Ivan Toney of Brentford

Danny Ings may be available. Proven striker, operating at the lower end of the league.
It would be a short term fix, but may help us to consolidate in the Premier League for another season or two.

None of that lot for me.

I'm not averse to swapping Bamford, he's missed the best part of 2 out of 4 seasons with us. We need someone that's less injury prone. I think the same about KP too. Cash in and get a talented DCM and striker that are less injury prone, as we've witnessed the effects of unavailability this season.

We would get way better value abroad than here, but for any incomings you're counting on Orta to get things right

We already have JG, Greenwood and Max Dean as back up.

Possible Origi, but can we afford the fee and his wages?

Better option would be a cheaper alternative abroad, other clubs manage to do this, but then again they don't have Orta as DOF
