Are you saying you think we would sign another striker additionally ?weasel wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 1:05 pm I think it is a lot easier to buy a proven striker this season as we are playing with 2 strikers. It was a tricky situation last summer to sign a striker as they would be coming in as back-up to Bamford in a system where we just play 1 striker and as we saw with Nketiah a couple of seasons you don't get much of a look in as the back up striker if the main striker stays fit. We can now arguably have 3 'first choice' strikers now with 2 starting and 1 getting a fair amount of minutes coming on for one of them as sub or getting a few matches when either of the other 2 are injured or rested.
As such if we take a punt on this guy then I'd think we were looking at him as competing with Gelhardt as the 3rd striking option. Would seem a strange decision though to go for someone who would be competing for the first choice back up striker alongside Glehardt, Greenwood and possibly even Mateo Joseph.
So Bamford, Gelhardt and this lad as well as a partner for Paddy?
That would be OK.
We were linked with Dries Mertens the other day (never going to happen) but as a short term solution he would be great along.
Someone like that and Junior Adamu I could understand.
Him alone would be another shot in the dark.

Think I would join you Lum.
Heard Charlie Cresswell had an impressive game for the U21s, I really think he should be given a run in the first team this season.

Medical today for Rasmus Kristensen as new Leeds player. Deal set to be signed and announced as Jesse Marsch wanted Kristensen as priority signing.

Two German clubs also wanted Kristensen but he's joining Leeds this week. (Fabrizio Romano)

Re: Summer 2022 transfer speculation and squad discussion
I suppose a lot depends on how the lub thinks Bamford will recover - we saw that after his injury plagued first season for us he was then able to play nearly every match for the next 2 seasons. Also how much Marsch rates Gelhardt and Greenwood and what positions he sees them playing (will Greenwood be viewed more as a potential midfielder or a striker). Also whether Rodrigo is sold and what position we see Dan James playing in if we don't go with traditional wingers. Then throw in Tyler Roberts too who may do better as a secondary striker than up front on his own. I think we should be looking at 4 strikers for the 2 positions. Bamford and Gelhardt presumably being 2 of those and then question marks about those listed above.Cjay wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 7:55 pm Are you saying you think we would sign another striker additionally ?

With JM being keen on squad rotation I think we can comfortably have 4 strikers all getting a reasonable amount of game time.

Still believe we require another proven striker whether Bamford is fit or not, only needs Paddy & Joe unavailable due to injuries & we are back to square one again.weasel wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 8:16 am I suppose a lot depends on how the lub thinks Bamford will recover - we saw that after his injury plagued first season for us he was then able to play nearly every match for the next 2 seasons. Re: Summer 2022 transfer speculation and squad discussion
French media saying we are interested in Bordeaux winger/forward Alberth Elis.
The source is L'Equipe who are extremely reliable.
He is on loan from Portuguese side Boavista.
Seems to be more of a winger than a striker but hey ho
Can't say I know much about him.
Decent record in France this season with 9 goals and 1 assist in a side that finished rock bottom of Ligue 1.
Only played 16 matches worth of minutes though (injury prone presumably).
Seems to be a former MLS superstar so maybe Marsch is driving this and maybe Paul can shed some light on him.

I don't know much about him but gathering what I've read so far, nobody seems to have anything positive to say about him. They must see something in him if he's been mentioned.

Re: Summer 2022 transfer speculation and squad discussion
I know this won't happen but let a Cjay dream.
Belgiam media linking us with a move for Napoli and Belgium legend Dries Mertens.
The 35 year old is out of contract and is apparently close to leaving Napoli over a contract dispute.
He wants around £60k a week.
Despite his advancing age Mertens has shown himself to be a reliable source of goals into his 30s.
Managing 13 goals and 2 assists last season Mertens has managed 80 goals and over 40 assists since his 30th birthday for Napoli.
He is known for his pace, close control, creativity and goal scoring ability.
He can play as a false 9, a winger or a 10.
He also has over 100 caps for his country.
It isn't happening but for me a 1 year deal with an option for an additional 12 months on £60k a week would be a total bargain.
His experience and the fact he is still class would be vital.
Imagine how much he could teach Joffy.
(His Instagram is also hilarious)
Bit seriously Radz is always trying to impress with is big I am words (I will sign Conte or Zlatan or Cavani etc)
Mertens actually seems possible, do it Radz!!

Re: Summer 2022 transfer speculation and squad discussion
Elis came up through CD Olympia which is the biggest club in Honduras and one of the biggest clubs in Central America. They regularly compete in CONCACAF Champion's League. He earned his big move to Liga MX with Monterrey which is a big club. But after only 5 matches he was loaned out to MLS side Houston Dynamo. His time in Houston was successful even though the team was pretty poor in those years. He scored 31 goals in 109 matches in all competitions with the club.Cjay wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 1:44 pm French media saying we are interested in Bordeaux winger/forward Alberth Elis.

Cjay is correct that he is more of a Winger than a Striker. (Usually on the left side) But he has been effective at both. He plays VERY vertical always testing the opposition back line. He has tremendous pace. But his technical ability is a bit unpolished like so many Central American players. He has had some injuries. But at 26 years old he not past his prime by any means And he is a regular starter for Honduras.
I really question if he can make the jump to the Premier League. He did have a nice season in League 1 last year. But his lack of technical ability and what I consider to be poor finishing make him risky. On the other hand there are always flashes of brilliance with Alberth Elis. He is kind of a tease that way. If JM is just looking for raw pace up top in a counter attacking role. He would certainly bring that. His skill set is different than any other attacking player currently on the roster.
Would I sign him? Probably not...

It's only a matter of time until Ryan Kent's name pops up again.

Lets hope we are working on outgoings aswell
Leeds need to bring in a midfielder who can score goals and a decent number 9 in Jan 2027.

I reckon most of the players that went out on loan last season will be sold.
I'd keep Mateusz Bogusz though. Lets give him some time in Pre-Season.
