We finished 9th largely because of Phillips and Dallas in midfield, Raphinha's creativity, and Bamford's goals, which got him an international call up. And of course, Bielsa over it all.
It now seems that we have or are reaching into a lucky bag to replace all of them.

What was ridiculous about it? He had two good seasons staying fit and scoring goals, there were suitors from other clubs lurking and we needed to extend his contract to prevent him either going cheap or running down the clock.
Next?

There is also a decent chance he will be back stronger than ever, we just need to give him more prep and match time to find that edge again.
I'm more concerned about what level Rodrigo will reach. Moments of brilliance but spread too far apart.

Adamu/Terrier
Adamu would just seem to be another punt and he isn't very versatile (unlike De Ketelaere).
So if a De Ketelaere type is first choice then it seems illogical to go to a different profile of player like Adamu.
Martin Terrier is far more similar to De Ketelaere in terms of versatility (all be it older) and would be my choice.
Bamford
Paddy has done a great job for us don't get me wrong. But he was Bielsa's boy, he was the workhorse who epitomised Bielsa philosophy side before self. It did cost us points on occasion no question about that as Paddy was not by any means prolific or clinical and in a less attacking side would probably struggle to make double figures. But he fitted the system perfectly so it worked out fine in the end.
But he has spent 2 of his 4 years here injured. He is bound to be rusty (and in pre season he has looked incredibly rusty understandably). He can't be relied upon fitness wise and therefore we have to plan for him not being fit and that for me means signing someone able to replace him.
Gives us options.
Paddy still has a role but I don't think he will be as crucial to Marsch as he was to Bielsa.
Bielsa adored him but I reckon Gelhardt will be Marsch's choice atm.
Kalimuendo
The more I watch him the more he reminds me of Gelhardt.
That isn't a bad thing but we already have Gelhardt so why sign someone of a similar profile?
It doesn't make sense to me that If De Ketelaere is our 1st choice (hopefully moved on by now) then why is our 2nd choice someone of a totally different profile?
That is why I think something is in the Terrier link.
He is far more similar to De Ketelaere than Kalimuendo is.
And maybe it's a bit of the Gakpo situation here.
Very reliable sources linked us to Cody Gakpo.
Not talking clickbait but proper good tier sources.
Then out of the blue Sinisterra was on his way, no mention of him previously.
Now maybe Kalimuendo is our Gakpo and Terrier is our real target?

I like Joffy, but doubt at this age he will be fit enough for a full campaign.
Next season though I see him as N01.
This is tricky for Leeds as to the type of striker we bring in pecking order wise.
Which is why I like the idea of an oldie to allow Greenwood and Joffy sufficent grow space.
Spend £30M and he becomes No1. I think Jesse will prefer one up top this season, at least until we get enough points so he can perhaps introduce 4-2-2-2

Disappointed that things in't work out with Shackleton. Hope we get a sell on fee

Unlike what the management think giving him a 5 year contract last year...bloody rediculous !VinnysTattoo wrote:It’s not a position where we take a cheap punt at. The PSG guy maybe and looks like our best option.
We don’t want another “prospect “ that will warm the bench and play in the 23’s.
Bamford has had one brilliant season. Even fully fit, I suspect he won’t t have another one given his injuries and general form. Hope I’m wrong, but he’s not the future for us.

I'm just going by what I heard/read in the press immediately following the comment he made...Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 11:43 am I disagree. H would have heard the rumours all Summer, and would have had a better worded answer prepared if there was nothing in it.
If there was no truth in it, it's really easy to snub any rumour.

Patrick Bamford is a JM type player. He is the type of forward that can thrive in the system. A solid person that can work within a TEAM concept. So those attributes that endeared him to MB will also assure he's in the mix with JM. And I think that Jesse will manage him in such a way as to protect his fitness and allow him to build back into form. I am nowhere near ready to write him off....
Having said that we do need another striker. I'm happy with Paddy and Joe Gelhardt. (I really want to see much more of Joffy.) But our third option is Rodrigo. And although he seems like a pleasant enough person and probably a good team player he just doesn't seem to have the movement or finishing quality we need. I suspect that we will have a "striker committee" this season. Which means we need about 8 goals from each of them. I just don't see Rodrigo getting his 8 goals...

Yes Bamford had a poor, injury prone season, but take away his equalisers against Burnley & Brentford and we would be away at Huddersfield in ten days time.
Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 19th July) - Junior Adamu is the latest forward linked to Leeds
We can't afford to go into this season with just Paddy & Joffy or else we could have a similar scenario to last season if they both incur injuries, Gelhardt has already missed the Villa game due to a heel injury. Paddy shouldn't be our only No.9.BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 3:30 pm Patrick Bamford is a JM type player. He is the type of forward that can thrive in the system. Orta & co obviously think we need another CF as they are in Europe searching for an alternative option.

What did we expect Jack to say to that question.

Ok prediction is that now orta has run out of ideas for a striker and is busy googling fifa 22 young talents to see what's available. And when march return it will be week of activity in the transfer market for a striker a LB and let hope for a creative midfielder. Let's also hope we get a decent striker and not another red bull player

I feel some anger towards Bamford, and here's why.
His goal celebration on his comeback against Brentford (one of his two goals last season). He's supposed to be one of the most intelligent players in the league.
I also feel aggrieved that he caught covid prior to the last game of the season. I know people can't help catching it, but you can be put things in place that make it harder to catch, ie face masks, vaccinations, staying away from restaurants, clubs etc. Am I bing unreasonable?
I just feel if you're on 75k a week, you should give some sacrifices!!!

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 19th July) - Junior Adamu is the latest forward linked to Leeds
I am not writing Bamford off yet. Showed what he can do before, and is the type of player to work in Marsch's system. He's had a taste of international football, so if he can stay fit and bang in some goals, he can push for a WC place, especially if any injuries impede his competition for the England squad.
That said, I am in total agreement we need an additional striker for the obvious reasons. Someone a little older and more seasoned would be idea as to allow our excellent young forwards like Gelhardt, Greenwood, Mateo Joseph, and now Perkins to develop. A versatile forward at that too, so Terrier would be ideal. All that aside, I would be more than happy to see Kalimuendo arrive too.
What I can't work out is Kalimuendo's attitude. He says he wants to fight for his place at PSG, and is also impressing the new coach there, yet they have transfer listed him. Can't be impressing much then? Or is there a mistake in all the information?

Oh not another Junior.
We don't have such a great track record with our players with Junior in their name. Our World Cup winner and our Barcelona star haven't exactly brought much to be excited about.
Maybe 3rd. time lucky!
