Surprised by a lot of the negative and fearful talk. We just beat - and outplayed - a top half team. Granted that they had injuries but so did we. Their goal was completely against the run of play. Except for a 20 minute period after half time, when I felt we dug in and defended well, we bossed the game. It worked we won. We got 3 points against a team ranked higher than us. Take the positives. Let's get ready for the next game.

No negativity from me AJS, I thought it a very good all round performance. All the newbies are bedding in very quickly, first game for this new defence. The high line high press should pay dividends going forward and we have Sinisterra to look forward to when fitandrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 10:17 pm Surprised by a lot of the negative and fearful talk. That's a nice start and we should be happy. But not satisfied. After the first 15 min I thought we bossed the game. First 25 minutes of the second half Wolves were in charge. Klich changed the game in that moment. Credit to Jesse for making the change. And credit to the player for coming on and making a difference.
Aaronson was MOTM for me. He's the Talisman in this group. Adams and Roca were competent. Each had good and bad moments. But mostly good on balance. They need to keep getting better and forge the relationship. Struijk is NOT a Left Back. Jesse needs to do what he has always done and trust the kids that are ready. It's time to give Hjelde a run out.
To all of you complaining about the shape and tactics. I did not see dour or negative football today. I saw high pressing and a commitment to attacking football. I do not see the narrowness many of you complain about. Pascal and Rasmus were running the touchlines all afternoon. It may not be the kind of width you are used to or maybe prefer. But can we PLEASE stop with all this talk of narrow play. It's just not the reality.
I quite enjoyed Jesse getting into it with the dipshit Wolves Manager. Took me back to his playing days....![]()

The club prioritise players they can sell for profit.SG90 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 9:47 pm I doubt we will sign anyone else. De Ketelaere was an unobtainable target we knew we wouldn't sign, like Aaronson in January. But it looks like the club is trying etc. We just spent the money we brought in. Unless Harrison is sold, I can't see anyone else coming in.
Most clubs first priority is is this player a quality player who can make a difference?
Ours is how much could we sell this player for in a year or 2.
De Ketelaere was a player they were willing to take a calculated risk on based on that priority, same as Gvardiol the other year
But they aren't looking to improve the squad as a priority.
If they can't find a player they can potentially flog for tons of money then they will sign nobody.
The benefit of the squad comes second to the sell to buy policy.

A good summarisation. Like you I am happy but not satisifed, or I would say not complacent. We have to look at the fact we are still in a bit of transistion and that things don't click overnight so it was a good stepping stone, plenty of positives and plenty to still be concerned about.BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 9:55 pm A decent performance and 3 points at Elland Road. I like the look of Aaronsen, great work rate and some good quality too. I think he, like the other signings, can look to improve but did well and gives me the hope that he is good enough and has the desire to be a really good player for us.
Like you I'm not sure what the complaint about lack of width is about. Plenty of time we attacked out wide, a lot of promise with our attacking play and the high press at times was fantastic.
I wonder if Marsch is falling into the trap of not trusting kids due to the immediate pressure to get results. A lot easier to throw kids in at the Red Bull sides, especially in Austria where they were way ahead the best team in the league so could throw in youngsters and still comfortably be the strongest team - plus it was also the Red Bull way to play kids as they sold players as soon as they got facial hair.
Jesse does come accross as someone who likes to wind up the opposition, whether as a player or now a manager.

It would be difficult for any new Manager in the Premier League not to fall into that trap. I hope that's not the case. Totally missed this game right up to 85 mins because of a busy work schedule. Paperwork allowed me to join the action at 2-1 up and cruising to an opening day win and a Brendan debut goal.
Thanks for the match comments giving me a better idea of the afternoons events and individual performances.

Re: Leeds Utd v Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Thread
For me there's only one guy that the plaudits go to for that victory and it's Jesse Marsch.
I saw not one minute of the first half, when i finally get a link to work it's the start of the 2nd half, and i'm thinking 'if this is how we've played first half we're fcked, we're going down'
Wolves were all over us from what i could see, then, he made the changes and it IMMEDIATELY brought us back into the game and probably put us on the front foot, so full marks to him for that.
From reading here, it seems we were ok ish in the first half and it sounds a pretty even game, so i presume at half time Wolves manager saw something to rip us open (worrying so quick into 1st half of 1st game of season) but, Jesse impressed me by adjusting too, so must've spotted what Wolves did and counteracted with Klich, which, at that moment in time was pivotal. He also put Greenwood on for Roca, which was also a bold move, positive.
The other thing that impressed me was the attitude of the players that were already on, but especially noticeable were the ones coming on, he's definitely got them on his side which is good, they're buying into it.
WE are 100% a work in progress and that Wolves spell i saw was v v worrying, i just hope he has the time to get right what he wants coz the Prem is an unforgiving place for giving you time.
So Jesses given me a bit of belief going forward, Weasel's got it right as per and so has Paul ( so honest Paul, keep it up)
I feel the same way as Sara, but as usual it takes her 3 words and i end up not knowing what the fck i'm going on about but continue typing.
Ps
If you wanna keep papping on about Bert you'll get left for dead, i don't now, but the sly digs people keep popping in on him about defensive frailties etc make me want to. YOU ARE ALL SO FCKING DUMB IF YOU COULDN'T SEE WHAT CAUSED BERT HIS PROBLEMS.
Jesse will never ever touch Berts attacking play, and that's EVER, who would i sooner have in charge of this new bunch ? It's not even fcking close.

Thanks,
I have one of those iptv boxes my son usually sorts for me, but i'm abroad atm and it wasn't working (it's connected to my tv) hopefully it'll be right soon enough.
I'm appreciative of the links here but some are easier than others to get playing re the adverts etc.
I was looking forward to watching it in the pub, but then blew a gasket at 0-1 and missed most of game riding home and fiddling with this n that.

Yeah very much this ^Anonymous wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 6:02 pm I'm sure that helps, although I tend to approach every game as a 'must win'.
Still far from convinced Marsch's system is going to withstand the rigours of a premier league season, but he has, at least, dialled down the headless chicken factor, so credit where it's due.
If on a scale of 1-10 (which i'm now gonna start using) with 1 being - very fcking worried and we're getting relegated coz we're headless chicken shyte....and 10 being - Jesses got us playing great and potential Champs league spot.
Prior to the new signings and him getting the players he knows, and if he was having to mould the previous into his style - I'd be at a 1.
After yesterday, i think i'm at a 3......but looking upwards.

Yip all of this ^weasel wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:11 pm A lot to be concerned with today. Wolves carved us open at times and it was like the worst of how we played last season and better teams will punish us more. We looked absolutely clueless in the second half until Klich came on. Full credit to both Marsch and Klich for that, Marsch for making the right choice and Klich for performing like that - I'm certainly not in the boat to write him off as I think played in the right position, with the right players around him he is still a very good player (having to do the donkey work next to the inept Forshaw will not make many players look good). There are certainly alarm bells with our defending, hopefully having Cooper back soon will help, for his organisational skills, and it may also be that we play a bit more defensive against the better teams but more gung ho against teams that Marsch thinks we can beat.
Both teams had an element of luck with the first goals and both teams wasted good opportunities. I think after seeing that performance I am still extremely concerned about how sh*te we look defensively but thankful we got the 3 points and feel we should have enough about us to finish higher than at least 3 teams. Not convinced about the manager, the players or the tactics but we should scrape enough points. 14th to 18th would be my prediction but hopefully we will improve as a team when the new players all settle in, Bamford gets up to full fitness and a couple come back from injury etc.
I'm feeling we can probably go 'gung ho' against a good few teams, but we're gonna get battered by quite a few, it's gonna be interesting who works us out first, and then Jesses response to it.

Would hardly call it 'gung ho'.
It is a certain style of playing and there is an amount of thought and tactics involved .
It will work against quite a number of teams without the quality out wide to exploit it.
Would imagine there may be an amendment of tactics when we play the 'top teams'.

Great start to the season, especially with four debutants & three of our kids coming on in the second-half to get us over the line for the three points we deserved in the end.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 10:17 pm Surprised by a lot of the negative and fearful talk. I wouldn't say my match report was negative.1964white wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 9:03 pm Just the start we all needed with three points in the bag, no having to wait seven games for a victory this time. Also, we've beaten a decent team.
A shaky opening ten minutes, but we overcome going a goal down by playing some fine football, with shots & opportunities peppering the Wolves backline, it only took us twenty minutes to find an equaliser with the lively Rodrigo firing in at the near post. Leeds should have gone in at half-time with a lead had we'd been more clinical in front of goal.
Our fans sang "where the fook is VAR" after Rasmus was taken out by Sa, nothing relating to this incident on the big screen.
Unsure what our players had in the tea at the interval as we were shocking after the break allowing Wolves to retain possession in loads of space for that period, we couldn't win the second ball & when we got the ball we gave it away cheaply. We barely made it into their half![]()
Cue Mateusz Klich giving us some order to our play. Our Polish star picked-up the ball & threads a pass to Bamford who crosses the ball perfectly into a dangerous area with a Wolves defender pursued by Aaronson scrambling the ball into his own net, we all thought Brendon had scored his debut Leeds goal, he certainly deserved a goal in his glittering first start in a Premier League game, he reminds me of Strachan. Paddy was unlucky not to give us a 3-1 cushion with a fine header superbly saved by Sa.
Meslier was equal to the Wolves keeper making some fine saves throughout the game.
As expected, there is a downside to this current Wolves side
Wolves players should get equity cards. Disgraceful play-acting and time-wasting when ahead and drawing. Ref didn't have the balls to intervene. Different story when Leeds went ahead surprisingly!
My main concern, worryingly we still look shaky at the back.

I said at the end of last season I could see them struggling. I don't think they'll go down, but wouldn't be surprised to see them in 14th, 15th, 16th. Their fans aren't happy with the owners, but Chinese companies can't take money out of the country. Really surprised Neves is still there.

Agree, they can't score and as I said yesterday, only brilliant performances by Sa kept them out of the relegation zone last season. He wasn't so great yesterday and could and maybe should have got a red card.
Think Everton will be in trouble too, Lampard happy to park the bus in every home match.
