Me too Mr 64, although my favourite player of all time is one Mr David Batty.

To carry on my thing for centre-midfielders, always had a thing for Luke Murphy.

Strangely enough I've always fallen in love with centre-midfielders, it all started in the 60s with my immense affection for Bremner & Giles. Turn the clock forward 55 years later, I'm drooling over Kalvin Phillips until he left for pastures new, then Tyler Adams came along, our best player last season up to his injury & then he departed, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.

Now we have Ampadu du du, my love for DM's is rekindled & I'll go as far as saying Amps is a better all round midfielder than Phillips & Adams.

Ampadu is a good choice to go on any Leeds fans' shirt.

Oh, I think we are all falling for Georginio, a slow burner, but we love him now, a joy to behold
I can only imagine how great Ampadu must be to work with--I imagine there's zero ego and 100% eagerness to improve...he just seems like that sort of player with the shifts he puts in. He and Farke much be a match made in heaven.

I've always been drawn more to midfielders too. I played midfield in secondary school, mainly because I was horrible with the ball (I'd never played before) but I wouldn't stop running. Also, although from a different time period ( you may have one or two years on me) and country, my football idols were the USMNT midfielders like Eric Wynalda, Kobi Jones, Claudio Reyna, and Clint Dempsey.

It was an easy transition to Leeds with Kalvin in his heyday. Tyler was my favorite player last year, if nothing else because he reminded me of much more talented me--always running. However, Ampadu is by far my favorite of the bunch, which I think is saying something given he's only been here one preseason and 11 matches.

Nice bit here from a Sky Bet interview about DF's direct approach to player management and it's impact on Ampadu's development. Also interesting to note that this exchange between DF and Ethan took place the first time they met, before Ampadu had even signed with the team:

"I've enjoyed it [playing in midfield],” Ampadu told Sky Bet. “It's probably been the first time I've really nailed down and played in one position and I think that can help with the finer details in trying to become the best in that position, which I think will end up helping the team.

“The first time I spoke to him [Daniel Farke], he didn't just tell me things he liked about my game and things I can help with, he also told me things I can improve on. Whether that's getting on the ball and trying to dictate the game a little bit more or having a little bit of freedom to get on it and pick the ball up in space – these are the sort of things I can improve on, and we’ve spoken about that.”

That is a something special from Ampadu du du playing against a midfield that includes Modric, Kovacic and Brozovic.

Great to see Ethan plying his trade against such tough competition and doing it very well.

Norwich (a)

Good
6 most tackles :gold:
6 ball recoveries :gold:
4 most blocks :gold:
4 most interceptions :gold:
4 most decent passes
3 decent passes
3 joint-most defensive clearances :gold:
2 runs
1 defensive headers
1 shot deflected wide
1 decent cross
86% pass accuracy

Bad
1 no challenge for their second goal
1 poor pass
1 lost possession

Summary
A couple of errors in the first-half, but grew into the game after a quiet opening ten minutes. Shame his midfield partner Glen Kamara has nowhere near Ampadu's numbers, he gets through so much work.

Harry Winks has Ampadu posters on his wall.

Just effective.

Not fancy, not going to create many YouTube clips with what he does

But it's very important and a vital role.

Breaks up so many attacks

Watching a full match replay, Kenny boy.

Can't do it at the ground & I am far too tense & nervous whilst watching our matches live on the telly.

Thought he had a very decent game vs Coventry.

Has looked a bit off it for a while but though he did well.

Broke up play a few times.

Thought his passing was more progressive than it can be.

Did well imo.

I can't help but wonder if Ampadu's 'poor' run of performances have simply been since Gray went to right back. It seemed in Gray we had a player that complimented Ampadu well and didn't over commit. Kamara seems veyr different in that he often appears all over the pitch rather than being sat within 10 yards of Ampadu.

I'd like to see Archie back in midfield as well in a few games, why can't we switch for certain teams, don't we do our homework like all the other teams do !!
Maybe now Spence is getting fit and Byram to come back, it will give us just that option, that's if DF sees it that way of course, do we need 2 deep lying midfielders in every game ?
