I used to Dave many years ago and it’s something I’d like to get back in to. Tbh I need to upgrade my fishing gear.
Never fished in Ireland but you have top class fishing in river, lake & sea. So how’s the trout fishing atm?

I may have to retract the fish joke from the thread title

Used to go fishing many years ago. Sitting on my basket with an umbrella, flask of tea and a few sarnies.
Marvelous days, no mobile phones, just you the water and the potential big fish to tell your friends about using the hands and arms scale to show how big it wasn't.
When I watched the T.V series Mortimer and Whitehouse it shows how good friends can go fishing and have right laugh at the same time.

Decent bow 4 weeks ago on the South Platte (17-18” and 5” or so wide)
14” brown on a 3wt in super skinny water

Need to get up to the Hills for some fly fishing. But Wyoming’s phenomenal waters on the way might be a distraction…

Wyoming could be a distraction for sure Joe. But if you like fishing small stream the Black Hills is hard to beat. Not to mention our many easily accessible lakes that are stocked with (Mostly Rainbow) Trout.
P.S. I had to edit my pic before uploading it to get it right. Had to rotate it sideways and then it uploaded correctly. Weird!!

It’s been good Jaydog, the Dollaghan season’s over now so back to stocked lakes for the winter.
Hoping to do more salmon fishing next year, it’s always been trout for me but I’m getting the itch.

Had a great time fishing for wild brownies in North Uist this summer. Would love to go back and fish the sea pools for sea trout and also if you catch the tide right as it enters some sea lochs the pollack on the fly is great sport. Plus good eating.
Re: Angling (and fish joke) thread
that’s a good one. I’m going to use racquet in the future to refer to fishnets. I’ll let you know if I get some puzzled looks.

With the pics if you screenshot the photo then post it’ll be right way round.
Re: Angling (and fish joke) thread
Thanks Jaydog, I’ve updated my post using the same strategy and that appears to have worked out. Regarding the kids, I’ve actually been working with the daughter casting 3wt and 4wt rods and she is coming along nicely. Accuracy and consistency are still off at times, but that will come. She can get it right around half the time…10 and 2 (which often gets simplified to 10 and 1 to avoid overcompensating on the back cast).
She also thinks wearing waders and standing/walking around in the water is the greatest thing…and who doesn’t love a happy kid
England is on the bucket list for sure. What are your most common rods that you use? I’m mainly a dry fly fisherman for trout and so have grown partial to my fiberglass 4wt. We have lots of big waters in the Rockies and can get up to using 6wt rods at times. I imagine 4wt rods are ideal. And more nymphing (so longer rods), I presume?
Also, look up “drewloooknfishy” on YouTube. That goes for everyone here with a fishing itch. You’re welcome

We sometimes refer to fishnets here as 'tights'.
And yeah you'd definitely get some puzzled looks, and possibly some advances.
