Three wins secures promotion for Leeds United

Saturday’s results may not have gone perfectly for Leeds United with West Brom squandering chance after chance at the King Power Stadium but the task in hand seems a little clearer now. Leicester’s two one victory sees them put their run of poor results to an end and regain top spot on 91 points. With the Foxes four points clear of Leeds United in third spot with Southampton, Preston and Blackburn left they are probably favourites once again to take one of the automatic promotion places.

Southampton’s late defeat at the hands of Cardiff City also relieves some pressure on Leeds and Ipswich. Southampton could have equalled Leeds’ points tally if they won their game in hand but thanks to Cian Ashford’s late goal, Leeds find themselves with a three point cushion and superior goal difference going into the final three games of the season. It could of course all be turned on it’s head once more come Tuesday night after Leicester and Southampton take on each other at the King Power.

Southampton dropping three points this weekend means a victory for them against Leicester on Tuesday could be good news for Leeds, this of course all depends on how Leeds get on at the Riverside on Monday night. Whilst we can speculate all we like about results for the other teams in the top four, it’s ultimately our own results that will matter come the final day of the season. With the inconsistent form of all the top four you would have to say that three wins gives us promotions, maybe even two but complacency is never a good thing.

Football Web Pages predicted final league table puts Leicester top on 98 points with victories over Southampton and Blackburn and a draw away to Preston. Leeds sit in second on 94 points with predicted wins against QPR and Southampton and a draw on Monday night against Middlesbrough. Ipswich just miss out on automatic promotion with 92 points, drawing with Hull, defeat to Coventry and victory over struggling Huddersfield Town.

But predicting results at the top of the Championship table has not been easy recently. Leicester, Ipswich, Leeds and Southampton have all had less than proportion worthy form in recent weeks. Ipswich had been the form side, hitting the top of the table again, but two points in their last three games has kept things alive at the top. Likewise, Southampton had been on a good run but perhaps too little too late given their results in past weeks, the loss to Cardiff may just have killed their chances.

Any of the top four who put a run together over the final four games has every chance of securing automatic promotion and there is no reason it can’t be Leeds United. It is fair to say performances have not been good as of late, they’ve not found the back of the net in the last two games, but a run of nine consecutive league victories at the turn of 2024, part of a run of fifteen league games undefeated shows that Daniel Farke’s side are more than capable of doing what is resulted to secure promotion.

The team have had nine days off to refresh and refocus, time to go out there an deliver the results needed to secure promotion. Nine points out of nine please lads!
