I've said it before, but there's too many parallels with Michael Bridges for me to ignore. The difference is MB had Smith and Viduka and even Kewell for company, whereas we've thrown all our eggs into one Bamford basket.CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 9:20 pm He's scored two goals in 15 appearances in a season and a bit. Yes, he's had long term injuries - but that's all part of assessing the value of a player to a club. Some players are just far more injury prone than others. It's like you may prefer a make of car but that make may be known to have consistent reliability issues. How often has Harrison been injured in 4 seasons ? Practically never.
Yet with those stats some are pinning their hopes on his goals keeping us up this season. Nobody's calling for him to be sold, but it's obvious that we need another striker from somewhere given that neither Bielsa or Marsch have for whatever reason given Gelhardt much game time. Rodrigo for me is a waste of time and money.

Yes - Bridges had that first terrific season, and then thereafter he was always crocked. I seem to remember that he scored a hat trick on his debut for us.

If you didn't know the score or hadn't watched the game and came on the last 15 pagesof this thread you would think we were awful today and didnt turn in a really really good performance.
Instead all the usual hand wringing.
Two errors today on the pitch cost us.
I'm actually wondering how many more angles some can find to prove that everything is wrong with us again.
It wont be long I expect.

Bamford can't train properly and hasn't for a long time now, a year or so.
That is a red flag for any professional.
In all liklihood he will never regain full fitness/sharpness because his career will probably be stop start from now on.
It's a shame for him and us as he clearly still has value fully sharp.
But at some point the club have to move on and treat him as an unreliable player.
It seems harsh but you have to be cutthroat.
It's also unfair on Bamford as he will know the pressure on him and for a player who clearly struggles with pressure its double worse.

But how many years have we bemoaned our finishing and lack of goals?
Literally years we have complained about dropped points because of poor finishing.
It's frustrating.

Four games to the WC.
Whatever happens by then I dont expect our league position to be changed much.
But if Paddy ain't firing by then we must find that £30M to invest big.
And if we can land that player early (I know I know) the better.

Who's saying they didn't play well and people are moaning about the performance ? I just watched it on MOD and I thought they were brilliant.
I'm a fan of Marsch and so far our performances against the top sides have been light years ahead of last season's. However poor finishing was an issue throughout most of the Bielsa era and I don't think that the problem has ever gone away.

Re: Leeds Utd v Arsenal Match Thread - Rodrigo starts up front as Sinisterra returns
Just finished watching the match on demand. So before I read anything online or on here I'll get a few thoughts out.
I was more than surprised to see Jack Harrison start in the #10 role. And based on today I didn't hate it. Yes, there was a fair amount of interchange and that's how it should be. But Jack looked much more comfortable in that spot than out on the right. And he was making dangerous passes. There might be something to build on.
I was not disappointed to see Rodrigo start up top. He did a lot of work off the ball and in the press. He had one good clear chance on goal that was deflected off the defenders. But his ridiculous error cost us.
Bamford made us more dangerous than Rodrigo. His PK miss was heartbreaking!
We stood toe to toe with the best team on form in the league and we were the better side. Our own errors and lack of finishing cost us another 3 points. We deserved to get all 3 just based on the overall performance. And I was encouraged by that. But for God sake we have to find a way to finish.

To be fair to Emma Chapel, she has had a host of injuries to contend with. 18 years old and her body is on the brutal WTP tour for the very first time in her fledgling career.....wrist, stomach muscle, blisters, back, you name it, she's struggled with it.....but I do get your point about pressure to perform.CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 6:33 pm Expectations to perform are a huge pressure for any sportsperson to shoulder - and if that person does perform well for a short time in their career then there is the pressure to prove that it was not a flash in the pan. Look at Radacanu - she came from nowhere to win the US Open last year, but subsequently her mentality seems totally different, and with the sudden burden of expectation her performances and results have fallen off a cliff.

Ahem..I beg to differ, Bert did perform miracles, we're still waiting on Jesse, who is expected to.White Riot wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 7:44 pm True, Bielsa and Jesse are not miracle workers and neither will be the next guy, if Jesse is sacked.
Just a short term approach.
No better example than Rodders scoring a few goals before the window closed and Radz says that'll do me folks. Rodders does his shoulder and they're then panicking running round Europe looking for a striker at the last minute and end up with Gnonto.
It's laughable.

I enjoyed that game even though we lost to a sublime finish from Saka.
So many pluses to be absorbed from apart from our finishing.
Marsch's football worked a treat yesterday, he can't be blamed for the missed chances.
We look a force at ER.
What a difference Bamford & Sinisterra makes to our team.
