You've seen that too huh .... He may have ditched the man marking (wrongly imo) but we don't seem to zone mark either. We ball mark by the looks of it...Orange Box wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 9:55 am I hope Jesse utilises his “everybody chase the ball all at the same time” tactics. Re: Liverpool V Leeds Utd Match Thread
Players get demoralised quickly if they feel things aren't working. If they are out on the pitch and the tactics aren't working and you look accross to the manager and see no changes (apart from baffling substitutions) you quickly lose your confidence in him. I think to some degree this probably also happened towards the end with Bielsa despite the players having had the experience of knowing the tactics worked when we had less injuries. In some ways Bielsa changing tactics then might have benefitted the players short term, to avodi the drubbings, even though the short term approach would have harmed us more long term (although not as harmful as him getting sacked and replaced by JM has proved to be). It may have kept confidence a bit higher say by taking a 2-0 or 3-0 loss to Liverpool but equally we would then not have been able to switch seamlessly back to the sort of style that had proven so effective against the lesser teams so although we'd have had lower defeats we'd have likely gone on to not had the wins where we should - but sometimes in the moment people don't see the bigger picture and get too caught up in the moment - like the board did by sacking Bielsa rather than having the courage to see whether results would improve against the lesser teams especially with some players returning.

Re: Liverpool V Leeds Utd Match Thread - Jesse Marsch faces injury crisis
I’ve already predicted a defeat, and possibly a significant one, on another thread.
A positive result of any kind, even a draw, would be a massive surprise but, depressingly, I just can’t see it. Notts Forest (I know that appellation annoys ‘em) actually managed to beat Liverpool recently, good for them, I don’t know but I suspect it may well have been undeserved. The thing is that Leeds never seem to get that sort of good fortune, even in matches where we probably deserved to win (Arsenal) we end up losing.
Another daft kick off time and another defeat on the cards I’m afraid.
Oh well, what the Hell! Come on Leeds!

Isn't it a really crap situation knowing that losing is a virtual certainty and total embarrassment is a strong possibility....and having to put up with the jibes from mates......oh well ups and downs

Right i'm getting ready and gonna be picked up soonish, off to 'This is Anfield'
Expect cries of "Marcelo Bielsa"...."you're getting sacked in the morning" and ....."sack the board, sack the board sack the board"
Which one you all want the loudest ? I'll only be singing the one.
I've got to initially sit in the Liverpool end so any crowd disturbance and you'll know who.
Must dash.

Looks very likely a loss is on the cards tonight, but it would be a real boost if we could somehow get a draw. The crucial game of course is Bournemouth at ER. Even a loss tonight provided it is not too big, and a home win would take us above Leicester, Wolves and Villa and just a point behind Bournemouth and Everton after 13 games. Obviously other teams results next week could alter the league positions, but my point is things would look a lot healthier if that was the case. A draw or Loss to Bournemouth though would be devastating.

Not looking forward to watching the game this evening. If they score early heads will drop and some players will hide and when they do get the ball they will treat it like a hot potato. If we can be tight at the back ( I know it is very unlikely ) and frustrate them and they get a few sent off we might come away with a point.
Flippancy aside I just hope we avoid a mauling. The only crumb of comfort is our goal difference in comparison to those around us, despite not having played the supposed big guns away. Staying in single figures before the WC is the only positive I can drum up right now.
I was going to mention that eternal killer - hope for tonight. But I may jinx what little remains.

I will be looking out for Kenny with his MB t-shirt in the crowd. I am sure the cameras will eventually pan to him whilst he is windmilling in one of the home stands.

You make a good point there that often gets missed. We often talk of morale dropping when results aren't going the right way. It's always referred to as a loss of personal confidence. That may be a small part. But I think the biggest drop is loss in confidence in the methods of the coach.weasel wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 12:43 pm Players get demoralised quickly if they feel things aren't working. Jesse has talked a few times about his team going freestyle at times. He's talked about them going wider against his wishes. That was the case 2nd half against Arsenal and actually worked quite well. It must be hard for players under a coach who's methods clearly aren't working

Feeling the same way. Going back to Bielsa days. every time the door opens for him, it seems like he's injured. Worst case from the press conference: Rodrigo and Sinsiterra miss out. Bamford probably only plays 60. Could be a huge role for Joffy today. If he wasn't injured.

Harrison on the right but expect him to switch with Aaronson at some point.
I really thought we should have went three at the back but hey ho.
