Match Thread Tottenham 4-3 Leeds Utd Match Thread - Post Match Debate

Post by Ellandback1 »

Saturday 12th November 3:00pm | Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Leeds travel to North London on Saturday Afternoon to play an out of sorts Spurs side, missing some key players. They have lost three out of their four last matches in all competitions, including a 2-0 midweek Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest, yet maintain 4th place in the top flight with 26 points, eleven more than Leeds.

Son Heung-min has been ruled out after undergoing surgery on his fractured eye socket, which he sustained against Marseille in the Champions League. Argentinian International Cristian Romero will miss out. The 24 year old centre back has not recovered from a thigh injury. There are doubts over midfielder Ryan Sessegnon who picked up a muscular injury in their 2-0 loss at the City ground.

You have to go back over 21 years since Leeds last beat Spurs in their own backyard (24th February 2001). Goals from Harte (pen) and Bowyer turned the game on its head after Les Ferdinand had given Spurs the lead. Since then, Leeds knocked them out of the FA Cup in 2013, and comfortably dispatched them 3-1, during the latter part of the 2020/21 season, but these games were at Elland Road.

Joe Gelhardt will make the trip to North London this weekend after recovering from the injury he picked up during the midweek Cup loss at Molyneux. Dallas, Sinisterra, Forshaw and Gray are ruled out with for the Whites. Patrick Bamford also misses out with Rodrigo leading the line. Jack Harrison is also injured, with Wilfried Gnonto making his first start for Leeds in his place.

I'll take a point right now, I'll be much happier with all 3 like, could go either way, suppose spurs have the edge with better players, no doubt we'll take it to them, if we can manage to score it'll unsettle them no end, 1-2 would be great.
Our first teamers back , looking forward to it.
I still haven't a ticket but am going down, anyone know of a spare, please let me know, thanks again.

I always feel like these "wow" statistics and streaks require some context. Just gonna guess.... what is that, maybe 10 matches (Premier League plus cups)?

Going to check my answer now.

Playing them @ WHL was our reward for beating scum in the cup.
We drew and lost replay.

All the stars are aligned for us this weekend. Spurs currently going through a really dodgy spell. They even lost yesterday to Forest playing their full first team .Son out and possibly Kane, if Contes statements about him being fatigued are to be believed. Richarlison and Kulusevski only just coming back from injury. Our lot should be fresh and up for it. Great time to play them.

We drew with Spurs 2-2 down at White Hart Lane in 2010 with Jermaine scoring a brace & a last minute equaliser from the penalty spot, lost the replay 1-3 at ER.

Also knocked them out of the FA Cup 2-1 in 2013 with Reg Varney & McCormack getting the goals.

I was at all three games.

Spurs a way better team with Kulusevski in it.
Something like 70% win ratio with, 50% without.
2.7 goals per game with, 1.3 without.
He couldn’t have come back at a worse time tbh

We actually played really well, Davy. Varney having one of his better games in a Leeds shirt.

Normal service soon resumed after that famous victory.

Stranger things have happened recently. Its a good time to play Spurs i hear the pundits say. That translates to Spurs will be looking to put in a performance to silence the doubters before the break. Big occasion and our lads are usually up for it. How many players that have been called up for the WC will be fully committed.....

They could put their reserves out and beat us as long as they don't play how Jesse wants them to play.

Wait to see how Spurs line up, then wait for the game to start, and if they're playing how Jesse wants them to play bang your mortgage on us and vice versa.

It's a guaranteed banker, so get £500 ready.

No need

We have put in strong performances against the "Big 6" so far this season.
Let's hope it continues that way and we play like we did in second half v Bournemouth last week.
You could never call us consistent.

I would be happy with a point.

Yeah, the odd thing is, you'd think the Big 6 would have the very best managers who got hired for those jobs by being so wise that they can adapt to anything. Instead it looks like the Big 6 are so sure of their tactical system that there's no need to adapt for poor Leeds, just a tiny gnat to be swatted away. It's Fulham up to Crystal Palace who put in the effort to adapt.
