We won't have a Pablo or a Kalvin next time & those three players will be three years older.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 10:15 am If we go down having players like Cooper, Ayling and Dallas could be crucial as they know what it takes to get promoted and are also players who can lead a young group. I think a few of the current squad would stay too, the sort of players that would likely only be wanted by lower premier league teams would likely stick around for a season in the hope of getting us back up.

Not so much Firpo, but Ayling had a mare!White Riot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 11:18 am Firpo and especially Ayling got continually rinsed on the wings. Last week Ayling got rinsed by Chillwell.
But the alternatives are Rasmus and Struijk, who might be better defensively, but don't offer much going forward.
All flawed options at full back/wing back.
Which comes back to recruitment.
Just watched the whole match again.
I can't remember a team like Brighton totally outplaying us, it was like watching eleven road cones running around us with ease, it actually felt like they had twelve men on the pitch. I expect the likes of Citeh to make us look daft, credit to Brighton, they are a very good side.
To be honest, I haven't seen a team play their system. It would be suicidal for Leeds if Koch & Wober played as Dunk & Webster did, playing out from the back, patiently waiting for a pass to one of their midfielders, two or three passes later the Seagulls are in our box causing absolute mayhem. Their incessant pace, movement & sublime passing was frightening.
Unsure how we earned a draw, two fantastic strikes from knick-knack Paddy/Jack saved our day.
We got away with one there!

Yeah, that's two weeks in a row Bill has got roasted, dunno why Javi didn't sub him. I guess Drameh is looking better by the minute.1964white wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 4:15 pm Not so much Firpo, but Ayling had a mare!

I was working, so couldn't fully concentrate, but whenever I was watching Ayling was caught miles out of position. Firpo was twisted inside out by Solly Match, and some of his attempted tackles were wtf.
Brighton are a good team and better coached than when Potter was there. They always had problems scoring under Potter, but not now.
I think they just tap it around the back knowing lots of teams press high, and then the CBs pass it into the acres of space in midfield. At least we didn't fall for that.
Under Bielsa, or Marsch, we'd have got massacred yesterday.
But I don't fathom some of Javi's selections, like not starting Gnonto and Sinisterra. Harrison still ain't got it for me, and I don't trust Bamford either.
Ayling needs dropped, you can't keep picking a guy that's playing that badly. Although Bielsa and Marsch were also happy playing out of form players too.

Equally puzzling is why Sini was brought on with literally 20 seconds to play . Having been out for many weeks I just don't understand...why risk him with so little time left ?White Riot wrote: Yeah, that's two weeks in a row Bill has got roasted, dunno why Javi didn't sub him. Marsch fucked up bringing on rodders when we're cruising. Where is the logic in these decisions ?

imo Brighton were a class above us and we were lucky to get away with a point. however its about time we had some luck and hopefully the tide will turn on that front. its good that both bamford and Harrison scored as they are both confidence players and we need them firing in future games. at least with rodrigo and sinisterra back we now have options up front (at least until we get a few more injuries) but we need consistency at the back. ayling was awful against Brighton and needs to get his head back in the zone next week for a game we need to get something from

They did try to get him on when there was still 4 minutes to go. I'm guessing they thought a fresh pair of legs might just have given us a better chance of a breakway goal. Hugely different to when Marsch brought Rodrigo on when we were 3-0 up v Accrington, yesterday the choice was made in an attempt to win a match.BGwhite wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:28 pm Equally puzzling is why Sini was brought on with literally 20 seconds to play . Don't see why all the negativity is being sent Ayling's way. He had a very tough job on his hands even if he was just expected to defend. However he is having to attack as well so it is no surprise he is sometimes caught out of position. Yes he struggled but I don't think RK would have fared any better. Ayling has been excellent this season for the main part so can forgive him an under par performance.

So first they built it up and then they tore it down?Ackermann wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 1:22 pm Worst case could see us fighting against relegation to league 1. In regard to 49ers: noone seems to know how they are involved or what the deal is should we go down.
ps: Burnley have done a brilliant job rebuilding their squad...
There's talent on this club. A lot of it. We have weaknesses, to be sure, but there is a lot of ability here.
What's been frustrating this year is how the whole has been so much less than the sum of the parts. Much as I was a supporter of Jesse's hiring, I have to conclude most of the problem was the coaching. Javi seems to be shoring a few things up and I'm hopeful we can stay up. I look at the teams around us and our front seven are more than a match for any of them once Sinisterra and Rodrigo are up to speed.
I'm still optimistic.

At 4 mins I get it but with 20 secs to go I cannot get my head around it. He had more chance of pulling hamstring than scoring.weasel wrote: They did try to get him on when there was still 4 minutes to go. I must admit I was worried about a muscle type injury with him coming on in the cold. We had the board etc ready with 4 minutes to go but they had a corner so the ref didn't let him come on and then I can only presume the ball remained in play or the ref didn't notice (like how he failed to notice almost any foul on our players) until just a few seconds remained.

If you’re interested in the metrics then 11 refers to the position we should be in and the 16 is where we are forecast to finish. In green.
I declare my love for Saint Daniel and I can shoehorn him in to any conversation.

Possibly he's up for the accolade of being the most frustrating LUFC player ever. I can't think who might be rated ahead of him...
Suggestions anyone ? Peter Barnes is another one I can think of.

I love Luke Ayling, I would imagine he is the heartbeat of the dressing-room, truth is he struggled. Even our former MOT member & friend of 15 years 'Riot' admitted "Luke had a shocker" as we walked out of the ground together & he doesn't normally have a bad word about Ayling. To be fair, Summerville didn't back Luke up very well.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:42 pm Don't see why all the negativity is being sent Ayling's way. I agree, Ayling may not have to face that type of opposition with the quality the Brighton forwards possess, they are the best team I've seen at ER this season. Rasmas is not the answer, stick with Luke at Molineux.

If Summerville wasn't doing his job in helping out Ayling then hopefully the manager will have spotted that and it will be corrected for the Wolves game.
Any player can struggle if his team mates are not doing their job properly, its a team game after all.

Me too, John. I think getting our injured players back, the new players continuing to adjust, as well as our coach continuing to work with the existing squad are all signs of encouragement. And I think we’re playing our fellow bottom dwellers at the right time in the coming weeks…with us ascendant and them starting to sputter.John in Louisiana wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:54 pm So first they built it up and then they tore it down?

I chalk this point up to Gracia being really astute tactically. This was an incremental point that the oddsmakers generally didn’t expect us to obtain.
And I doubt any of the bottom 9 teams that we’re competing with could’ve obtained a point from Brighton.
