I share Paul’s optimism. I don’t recall Tyler ever being injured much, if at all. I’m hoping it’s precautionary.

Adams's game was suited more to the harum scarum chasing around after the ball as others were out of position. With a more controlled way of playing now I don't think Adams is as effective/neccessary. Whilst I think we will miss his energy I am actually looking forward to seeing how Roca and McKennie play together.
Oh dear - You underestimate how he helps the defence out. The fact he is no longer going forwards and the decline in the number of goals we concede is in my book a pretty obvious reality.

Roca instead of Adams ???? We shall soon see. I would play Gyabi over Roca every day of the week.

15 x decent passes
9 x tackles
7 x interceptions
6 x defensive headers

So who is going to do all the dirty work Adams has done in our last two matches?

Thank god Southampton lost. We are heavily relying on other teams not getting enough points.
Always said witha fully fit squad we have a chance...but woth 2-3 `big` players always out it will be very difficult in my eyes.
Adams a big loss.

Waiting for the next injured player to be announced.

I was extremely confident of survival, significantly less so now with this news. Just when we’d got Rodrigo back too.

I hope Weasel is correct, and this isn’t as significant a loss as it seems to be to many of us but I fear the worst. By a country mile our most consistent performer.

Us kopites know the score, mate.

It's difficult to have faith in our inconsistent types. We only have to look at how we've missed Bamford's goals (after his serious injury), Rodrigo injury, the sale of Raphinha & the release of Pablo, no one has stepped up to the plate & replaced them. Massive absences & sadly will be the same without Tyler.

You should have a listen to the recently posted Tim Ream interview with Weston McKennie. In it he talks about when he moved to Italy he learnt a lot more about positioning and how to read the game rather than just chasing around. For me Tyler Adams needs to improve that side of his game as unfortunately he is too used to the RB way of playing which is why he runs around chasing everything whilst leaving a big hole in the centre of the pitch. I did numerous articles about this earlie rin the season about how Adams would get back into position but not track his man and inevitably a central midfielder would have acres of space to score for the opposition.

That is why I don't see Adams being out as a huge problem especially now we have a lot more structure about us. If you compare Kalvin Phillips to Tyler Adams then KP did far less chasing around but occupied the centre of the pitch making it harder for teams to come through us, notice how much easier it was for teams when KP was absent for us.

Adams could be a cracking DM if he improves his positional sense and reading of the game, when to leave his position and chase a player down and when not to as the danger will not come from the guy running down the wing but the midfielder who would get on the end of the cross.

Tyler gets caught upfield a bit too much for me, but as a box to box and not true DMF that'll happen...

Roca is weak in the tackle, no pace and his distribution is not consistent. Not sure what he brings to the team - he is a Spanish Foreshaw, in so much as he can only pass sideways and backwards with any level of success.

If you read the game well you have to tackle less. I would agree we haven't seen much from Roca but I'm hoping that he will blossom now with tactics that suit his game more, I don't think he found it easy playing under Marsch as people weren't in positions to receive passes as they were running around chasing the ball.

Weasel, glad you liked that podcast! I agree that Adams’s positioning and passing leave a lot to be desired. If he can improve in those two areas, the sky’s the limit. He won’t be able to rely on his athleticism forever.

I’m optimistic about the McKennie-Roca pairing and actually think Wolves could be an opportune matchup for both of them…the Wolves midfield isn’t the quickest or highest pressing midfield out there (far from it actually). Theoretically, this would leave them with more time on the ball to do some dangerous things. Fingers crossed!

Adams injury time...Arsenal...Forest

Post by geeno_philly »

If Adams healthy enough (not 100%) to play vs Arsenal, do we give him the extra 3 days ahead of Forest?. IMO...yes.

For me, it's a no brainer. Feels like the Forest game may well define our season, much more so than how we might fare in London against a very strong and in form Arsenal.
