This is obviously born from those isolationists who view European nations to be more socialist than America. This despite the irony of the American professional sports leagues, by their closed market nature, are more closely aligned to socialism, and Football/soccer leagues in Europe being more open/free market-oriented. But as is common throughout this wonderful planet of ours, it’s often hard to confuse certain people with the facts.
I've heard that one dozens of times. But that one is actually mild compared to the more crass and profane insults.

That was a good read, KB. Thanks for sharing. I've always liked Wes and have been reading about his recent form with Juve. Tbf I think he came at a bad time here, wasn't used properly, and didn't have much of a chance to show his quality. I know fans hated him, and a lot was down to him, but there is a player there.

There was no hatred from me Ash, as you say, wrong place, wrong time, wrong manager/s, in fact probably all wrong for all concerned.

I'll be watching him next chance i get.

Good footballer tbf .... I don't think, apart from arriving a little unfit, he played badly for us...

I'd agree he wasn't Prem fit.

Sara - While fan opinions obviously vary on Wes, and I completely agree that his performance with us was sorely lacking, I'm trying to consider the broader context. Individual performances are influenced by various factors, including team dynamics, coaching, and personal circumstances. McKennie's contributions may have faced challenges, but I think it's crucial to acknowledge the complexity of a player's experience and our situation when he arrived. Criticizing solely based on attitude and effort might oversimplify the situation. Factors such as injuries, tactical adjustments, or personal issues can also play a role. I think evaluating a player's performance comprehensively provides a more balanced perspective. For instance, he's certainly performed well with the USMNT and is currently in very good form with Juventus. I agree his attitude was s**t (along with many others), and he was part of the reason for relegation. Just saying, he does have some quality.

He seemed a bit like DJed Spence to me. In a few months some people will be saying the same about him I suppose.

He's probably the most despised player of recent years, and not without reason. There are no excuses for not giving a s**t.
Trust me, I understand the frustration fans have felt - I include myself in that. I just also try to consider the challenges Wes (or any player) faced, such as adapting to a new team and league, at a time when our circumstances were pretty dire and getting worse by the minute. Not an excuse, but maybe a factor. You're certainly right that he was brought in to perform and didn't live up to that. Can't speak to whether he's the most despised player of recent memory, but you could well be right, depending on what segment of fans you poll and on what day :) At least he has admitted recently his poor performance with Leeds, which is more than I can say for someone like JM, who seems incapable of admitting culpability.

Bar talent the most key attribute in any sportsman. Equally as important I’d say. Look at Dan James. Or Luke Ayling. Stuart Dallas. Never an excuse for a poor attitude.

It must be tough to take when you’ve been subbed, walking off the pitch for the final time at ER and your own fans are singing “You Fat ba***rd” repeatedly 🙄🙄🙄

He was "coached" by the three stooges... no one came out of that well.

I don’t know about the trenches but I wouldn’t want to be behind him in the McDonald’s queue if you know what I mean.

Anonymous wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 11:04 am There's a 136 page thread on him on another forum that is pretty unequivocal in its condemnation. A small sample of comments from the most recent page:

'Never been more let down by a signing I don't think. Can't believe I was actually excited he when was announced - mugged us all off.'

'That debut at Forest has to be one of the most unimpressive debuts I've ever seen.'

'Spent most evenings in a Wetherby boozer during his last few weeks….'

'Was photographed on a train down to Kings Cross stuffing his gob just a few short hours after we had been relegated. Couldn’t wait to get out of here.'

From the few recent responses in this thread, I'd say he's pretty hated lol  Just playing devil's advocate here...do you think he could also be a massive scapegoat for all that ailed us? A lot of the vitriol was deserved but was he also a just big target (no pun intended) for unhappy fans to pile on?

Agreed - more factors that contribute.
